God, the way all the prequel star wars media (i.e. set before episode IV) makes the death star dreaded is amazing.
Imagine showing star wars in chronological order to someone who didn’t know what the death star was. It’s shown as blueprints in episode II, as a shell in III, and then hinted at over and over in Bad Batch, Rebels, and Andor with increasingly frantic rebels. “Project Stardust”, a “superweapon”, giant crystals, etc. You see it half built at the end of Andor season one and you don’t know what it does but you know it’s bad. And then in rogue one you see it.
Jedha City is destroyed. So is the database on Scariff. All with the imagery of nuclear bombs. And come A New Hope, it destroys Alderaan. We care about Bail and Leia by now, and we realize this isn’t an oversized laser nuke. Krennic was right; it can destroy planets. The stakes have never been higher. The joy and relief at it’s destruction is overwhelming. The horror is over.
And then two movies later they fucking make another one and in the next movie there’s a planet one that destroys an entire system we’ve never seen and then in two more movies there’s a fucking fleet of star destroyers that do that and you realize the galaxy will never be free from the increasingly ridiculous power creep lmao.
God, bottom dysphoria is such bullshit. One day I’ll look down and I’ll think “you know, I’ve had this penis for 22 years, and sure it’s weird and awkward and doesn’t quite feel right but it’s served me well, it has its purposes, I could live like this. It’s way more convenient than surgery” and then the next day I’m practically praying I’ll wake up miraculously with a vagina. Which is a rather awkward position to be in given I’m an atheist.
Fucking stupid ass bottom dysphoria
Happy Juneteenth - Except as Punishment for a Crime
To my fellow Americans, especially African-Americans who are descended from slaves, happy Juneteenth. For any non-Americans (or white Americans unfamiliar with the holiday) reading this, Juneteenth marks June 19th 1865, when the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation freed the last southern slaves in Texas. Of course, there were still enslaved African-Americans in some northern states--namely Delaware and Kentucky--who were not emancipated until the ratification of the 13th Amendment on December 6th and went into effect on December 18th 1865. Of course, the 13th Amendment says "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." So slavery is legal for convicts. Convicts who are disproportionately black. Who are forced to work in agriculture, tech, and even furniture. In for-profit private prisons, remember. Companies profit from enslaved black labor in the US to this day.
Happy Juneteenth. It was a milestone, and we should celebrate it. But remember that it was not the end of civil war era slavery, and neither was the 13th amendment. The struggle continues to this day.
You guys seem to want to stab Caesar. Did you know he lives on the east coast of the US? Yeah, he’s in that big white house with all the pillars…
Padmé was a senator, and a famous one at that. From the movies and shows, it also doesn’t seem like she hid her pregnancy at all. Did people like… ask who the father was? Or is being a single mother more normal in Star Wars? Is it normal for the Naboo but not Coruscanti? The reverse? If it would raise eyebrows, did Bail or Mon Mothma ever ask her about it? Were there holo tabloids speculating about the father? Did she just tell people it was a private matter, or was there a cover story? I really need to know because fucking imagine if a senator was just casually pregnant and nobody knew who the dad was. That would cause such a stupid stir in the media. Imagine the conspiracy theories, the smear campaigns, especially as Palpatine gained more power.
Hey so, remember how we like to say “at least I live in a progressive state” whenever the republicans do something crazy?
Yeah, the republicans are doing crazy shit in Washington state now; a liberal bastion of the Pacific Northwest. For those who don’t know, I live in the PNW, so WA is pretty close to home.
This house bill is sponsored by a bunch of house republicans https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary/?BillNumber=1038&Year=2025&Initiative=false
Which, if you don’t wanna read it, HB 1038 is a bill to ban gender affirming care for minors (blockers, hrt, surgery—even tho minors don’t get it—the whole nine yards) with the typical exceptions so that doctors can “correct” intersex minors. This shit is repugnant and probably would’ve gotten me killed as a kid. If you live in Washington, go ahead and provide comments on it to vote no here: https://app.leg.wa.gov/pbc/bill/1038
I hope Oregonians are keeping an eye out, because it will happen in Oregon too. Idaho’s moving to outlaw Gay Marriage, and the feds will support any and all of this regressive nonsense. Stay vigilant.
