Tack Therese @tesas för en supertrevlig frukostlunchdejt! Alltid lika kul att ses, men nu försöker vi ses innan flera år har gått! 😉@wenngarnsbageri #wenngarn #oldfriends (på/i Wenngarn)
Thanks to the generous help of one of Daisy’s coworkers, we recently came into possession of a nice second hand Volvo station wagon which we have since christened the HMS SeaQuest (Jonathan Brandeis and Darwin the Dolphin decals to be added soon). Having a car will really allow us to explore more of our new home, and give us the ability to take trips to more out of the way places which would have been hard to reach with public transport.
For SeaQuest’s maiden voyage, Daisy and I, along with her coworker Carsten and our friend Mark who’s visiting from the US, went on a little day trip to the scenic town of Sigtuna, which is located north of Stockholm, about halfway towards Uppsala. Sigtuna, besides being a great name for a hip, gnarly food truck specializing in sushi, is also the oldest town in Sweden, having been founded in 980 CE. Located on the shores of Lake Mälaren, it was an important center for the Christian Church for many years, and was where Sweden’s first coins were minted. Ancient rune stones and ruined churches dot the sleepy town. We took a slow stroll along the main street and the boardwalk overlooking the lake, enjoying the peace and quiet.
After a lunch of sandwiches and pastries, we drove a little further to nearby Wenngarn Slott, a baroque castle that’s been converted into a fancy hotel/conference hall. It's a neat, compact little manor house overlooking extensive gardens that would be quite nice to stroll through in the summer when everything is in bloom. Although many rooms have been transformed with modern amenities, there were still some fantastic ceiling frescoes and furnishings that remained from the time the castle was built. All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend a quiet spring day in the company of good friends!
