Don't mind me, just trying to cope with the fact that we won't be getting any more new MPUB episodes this week 💔
I honestly gotta say that this must be one of my favorite kdramas ever. I've already rewatched it once...and I plan on making all my friends watch it mwahaha!!
I seriously love this mystic family so much, I'm gonna miss them so bad 😭❤
— Phillip Pullmann
“If I couldn’t stay by your side or protect you, the truth wouldn’t matter at all. I wanted to show you with my actions this time around. Not as the weak prince who made empty promises, but as Gwibanjang who protected you. I know it’s late, but I really wanted to make good on my promise.”
“Let me go to Hell for her.”
“I could not save you after all. If there is a next life, I will be sure to find you. Then, even if I have to sacrifice my soul, I will protect you.”
“I may have paid for killing my childhood friend and taking my life, but not for making Weolju die alone.”
“We all need someone who listens to us.”
it makes so much more sense now that we know weolju is settling the grudges so that she can save her child from the bad karma of having to live through thousands of miserable lives?? she had been so angry at the world when she died that she chose to perish in hell than take on the punishment offered up to her, even though that could have been a possible way for her to preserve her soul and be reincarnated. she has clearly lost her will to live and wanted to be freed from the world of humans. i don’t think that knowing she was pregnant when she died would have caused her to change her mind about this - she would most likely have saw her unborn child as yet another thing that she had lost due to the cruelty of the people around her. it would have only further compounded the fact that there was truly nothing left in the human world for her.
but knowing that her child would have to suffer the consequences of her actions, that changes things somewhat. despite her tough exterior and harsh words, weolju is a good person. she’s kind and compassionate to those around her and often goes beyond what is necessary to help the people who come to her bar. most importantly, she would never intentionally hurt anyone for her own interests. knowing that her unborn son, an innocent child and someone whom she would have grown to love as a mother, would be subjected to such a miserable life would have broken her heart and filled her with guilt. she would never wish that upon anyone, what more her own child. and that’s why weolju chose to accept the punishment, giving up her own wish of being freed from the human world in the process. she was not doing this for herself but instead trying to save her child from having to go through the same suffering that she herself had experienced.
