001: Valvert
when I started shipping it if I did:
Probably somewhere between me reading the Brick for the first time and me reading the Brick for the second time. So, ugh, between the ages of 11/12 and 14/15?
ETA. I AM NOWHERE CLOSE TO BEING 15 ANYMORE, JUST FYI, THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO.
my thoughts:
Two people just DON’T accidentally meet this many times over the course of their lives if they’re not destined to be together, JUST SAYIN’. It’s Fate, mate.
But, like, there’s a lot in them that I like about my other ships too? Fairly adversarial relationship to start with, and two people who could genuinely compliment each other with their strengths and flaws.
What makes me happy about them:
The angst potential. I live off angst and tears. If I can’t imagine at least seven ways to break my OTP emotionally and physically, they ain’t OTP material.
Also the idea of THEM making EACH OTHER happy. Never said I had anything against EVENTUAL happy(ish) endings.
What makes me sad about them:
Canon. Canon makes me sad.
things done in fanfic that annoys me:
Making Valjean a 100% flawfree person. I get it, Javert would think that, but he just did a 180 on the ABSOLUTELY BIASED spectrum and therefore is not reliable at all. Also ignoring the fact that Javert is a douchebag (what, he is).
things I look for in fanfic:
Refer to #3. Also refer to my personal motto of “a suffering character is a good character”, commonly known as “TORTURE YOUR DARLINGS”.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
No one. Nu-uh.
My happily ever after for them:
Do we want to go there? Ehh. Possibly realising that the other one is just a man with all the good and bad points it entails. Also, they learn how to TALK. TALKING WITH THE OTHER. ACTUAL COMMUNICATION. THAT WORKS.
who is the big spoon/little spoon:
Valjean for the big spoon, at least that’s how it works in my mind some 85% of the time.
what is their favorite non-sexual activity:
Gardening for Valjean. And I have this crack feeling that Javert’s favourite hobby would be grossly overthining everything ever.
