Minewt + Werewolves
Quite a ways back you wrote about a monster and a monster hunter - did they manage to escape the silver cage before the moon rose??
It starts at the wound in Newt’s shoulder, the skin seems to ripple, and Hermann’s stomach turns over- they are out of time, there is nothing more they can do-
Newt moans, sinks to the floor as the rippling spreads over his shoulders, his back; the wound smooths, is replaced by skin and thick, thick hair; Hermann fights back revulsion and crouches beside him, smoothing his hair and neck and trying to repress a shudder as his hands meet ever-spreading fur;
He slumps to his side, shuddering, limbs twitching and there’s a hideous snap as his legs lengthen and bend and his bone crackle as his spine extends;
Hermann covers his mouth, trying to force the nausea back; he has never seen this before- only heard and read about-
Newt moans again, and it distorts to a long, weak howl as his mouth pushes outwards, his teeth crumbling to expose longer, savage fangs;
It’s almost complete. Newt shakes himself and Hermann stays perfectly still as the great beast sits up, shaking it’s great ruff of fur, yellow, alien eyes fixing first on Hermann- then, dismissing him, on the bars;
“No- stop!” Hermann lunges for the wolf as it snarls and hurls itself towards the bars; its weight is enormous, its heat boiling and foul as it tries to break free;
“Don’t touch it-” Hermann gasps, sweating, sinking to the floor in the effort of keeping the wolf from killing itself against the silver bars; “You’ll die-”
The massive head turns, yellow eyes, bright as gold coins, fix on his; Hermann’s breath catches, he tries to force back fear but he can see the rage in those eyes, the teeth drawing out and eager and-
Hermann doesn’t move; there is nothing he can do- even if he were armed, he could not draw silver against Newt; “Newton,” he whispers;
Is it his imagination, or does something flicker in those eyes- “Newt;” Hermann grits his teeth, and reaches out to touch his muzzle;
He expects teeth to snap close, the blazing pain of shredded flesh and crushed bone- instead, his fingers touch something damp and cold;
His eyes open, Newt sniffs his finger, damp nose touching his hand; “You do know me,” he chokes; can barely believe-
Newt turns to face the bars, growls-
“No;” Hermann, turns his head back to look at him, “Stay, please;”
Newt growls, then settles down with a huff, tail thumping heavily on the ground;
Oh thank you, thank you; Hermann leans in, and kisses his snout, ignoring the stench of wolf, the unnatural reek of monster; Newt’s eyes drift closed;
Hermann settles against him, puts an arm around that great neck, holds him close; there is hope now, for them to see the dawn.
