Where do you pull your werewolf lore from for your stories? Is it multiple sources, do you kind of make stuff up on your own terms, etc.
YES.
So, a bit of both tbh. I wanted to get into the lore, but had already committed to the classic full moon situation. Turns out, the whole full moon/bite transmission/savage beast that eats people/weak to silver was fabricated in film pretty recently (I think even classics like The Wolfman didn't originally have anything about silver in them).
Turns out there isn't really a universal mythos! Everywhere that has wolves has people-that-turn-into-wolves lore but it's all different. Deal with the devil? Cursed? Did on purpose using a wolf hide and pee circle? Witches? (Twilight?)
A lot of the stories seem arbitrary, too, like over here the wolf guy can speak english but he's cursed to stay a wolf for seven years, this one over here is nine years but the caveat is he can't have consumed human flesh in that time. (This might be where the 'slavering cannibal' vibes originate.)
So for Ken, he's searching out the lore that best matches him to see if there's the possibility of a cure or even just some information. But the bit with the hide/belt was absolutely an inspiration for further plot development!
Editing to add: The knife and hair bit did not come from me, that's one of the things that came up in my searching!
