Reaching out to take Wesley's hand when it was extended his way, he shook it with a smile, and watched as his son did the same before stepping back and nodding his head, "yeah, of course. Figured it had been a while since we've all had the chance to hang out, might as well make the most of it, right?" After all, one never really knew what the weather was going to do when it came to snow storms and sledding weather. "Did you have to bribe her into going outside, or have an easier time than I did?" he asked once the kids started to head off on their own. @xwesjames

There was something about winter time in Merrock that always made Cage feel young. He could remember waking up after a big snow, watching the news obsessively to see if school was closed, and then rushing back upstairs to get dressed in his snow suit, not even needing to call his friends to make sure they were heading to the same hill they always met at, excited to go sledding for the day. Things were different now, kids needed that little extra push to, well, be kids. And push he did. Thankfully, Wes was up for adventure all the same, and it didn’t take long to spot him and Arabella as he and Colton crossed the field towards the giant hill at Blades, lifting his hand in greeting, smile crossing his face. “Hey, Wes, Arabella, glad you guys made it.”

Isla Jean always took rather seriously her role at PTA secretary, particularly because it was the good Southern bitch in her that reveled in a bit of power of the other parents. Lingering near the refreshments tables before the meeting, Isla finished fixing her tea in a paper cup, stirring in a bit of honey. “Honey, if you want that donut just take it. Lingering and giving it bedroom eyes ain’t fun to watch.” She remarked, demure grin pursed on her lips as she met the gaze of the man in her proximity.

It was nice to have a friend in Wesley Hill, a man he’d known for quite a few years through Scott’s time in the Judge Advocate General Corp within the Navy. While Scott had loved the law he’d long moved past those days, his true passion would always be flying. Still, it was nice to catch up and discuss anything but the law — even if that occasion was walking about the zoo with Wesley and his two kids.
Scott loved kids. In fact, one of the things he’d always been sure of early on is that he wanted a large family. He’d loved having siblings, and considered himself extraordinarily close to his sisters. He knew Dani didn’t feel the same way (at least, she wasn’t enthusiastic about kids), but Scott’s desires remained. Which was why it was nice to spend time with a guy he knew had always been a real family man.
“So how’s the book coming along?” Scott asked encouragingly as they strolled along just a few feet behind Ezra and Frances, who were kept busy wondering after all of the animals.

If there was one thing Logan had always hated about Lovell, it was the fact that there wasn’t even a single Starbucks in the town. He had always hoped and prayed for one. After all, how could there be a single town in America that didn’t have one? All he’d wanted was a Venti Caramel Macchiato, and yet here he was, sulking on the steps of the old reading room with sub-par independent coffee shop sludge.
Lovell was the worst, and he hated that he loved it, hated that he could still sit here in his favourite spot and watch the world go round and feel at home.
He toyed with his phone, considering ringing home. But he’d talked to everyone that morning, and if he rang too often, he would feel pathetic. He’d call for Ruth again before bed-time, wish her good night, tell her he missed her.
It’s with a sigh that he takes notice of the figure approaching him.
“Sorry, but unless you come bearing good coffee, I’m not in the mood for chit-chat.”
