Fell in love with @wrenkenstein 's Juno this week and of course she had to find a place at the rodeo <3

My favorite part of this is that all conchos hold her modified cross symbol. I wish that the saddle engravements weren't lost to the texture of the brushes I use for flat colors.

Time to write her into the AU... and also finish the piece I already have :3

I love Ranger's design, its an old HARPG horse I have named Daiquiri and she is so pretty <3 Looks amazing in black tack which is 100% dark and broody Hunter's choice.

Desolate Rodeo / Western AU - Explained

Rating at least teen for guns, swearing, and cowboy chaos - Inspired by @blackseafoam 's ttb x rdr2 au - her art and writing are amazing, go check them out!!

Light Summary:

The Bad Batch cowboys are finding their way through life in the isolated deserts known as The Wastes, where service and the law are equally nonexistent. Raised and aged out of the system together and subsequently kicked out of the army for refusing to be split up; the boys of Group Home 99 end up working the Desolate Rodeo and ranching operation for nothing but board and meals. Isolated from the world by desert and employer, the group of brothers carve out a simple life amidst the scrub brush, cattle, and lawless nothingness.

'Rules' of the AU ...aka how it diverts from cannon

Taking place in an isolated desert region called ‘The Wastes’ 

Very Southwest USA vibes but not outright saying it

The region has no standard law enforcement presence due to remoteness

“The Wastes are filled with scum as much as scrub brush.”

Aliens walk among the planet just for the ✧spice✧

Modern-ish day time period but missing far sweeping technology due to remoteness

One computer that barely gets a connection for looking up information as needed

a cell phone with shit reception for Cid to yell at them

a far outdated tablet for Tech to use for his multitude of spreadsheets for all things.

Radios are their main form of communication 

Power from solar panels and water from the well, conservation!!

Under the thumb of Cid for her rodeo operations

They don’t mind it as they have each other and what is essentially their ranch

No car for these guys, they dont stray from their ranch often. 

Going to Ord Mantell, the nearest place with a store, is a midnight-midnight endeavor by wagon 

No currency for them unless they earn it under the table themselves

All purchases are on Cid’s tab keeping them more under her thumb.

The Desolate Rodeo is home to….

Bucking Broncs & Roping Cattle

Speed events of all types

Work exchanges of honest and immoral means 

Goods exchanges of mostly immoral and illegal means (moonshine and substance)

Overall a good time to bet, gather, and blow steam one weekend a month

The Batch are…

Orphans of a variety reasons who were raised in (and aged out of) Group Home 99

Dropped out of the army when they were going to be split up following Echo's and Wrecker's accident

Found work with Cid while traveling back across the country (this time by hitch hiking)

Feral chaos gremlins in their young 20s but now approaching 30s have settled into their ranch lifestyle and the peace they have carved out into the world

Have killed and will kill again if it means protecting their homestead

Basically the “don’t fuck with us and we won’t fuck with you” group

Enjoy the rodeo events they get to partake in [not for money winnings but can be bet on]

Omega comes to them from being abandoned after a rodeo

External pressures come from.. 

Cid demanding something from them

Other groups of the Wastes trying to start shit 

Trying to make things work in their somewhat strenuous situation

Notes about the bois

Hunter is still smaller than the other four but will shout up at them with intense fury

Tech has glasses that he wears with a cord to ensure they stay attached to him

Wrecker is the only one who Gonky (a red heeler) will listen to for herding the cattle

Crosshair can shoot his rifle between Boot’s ears with no issue

Echo has two leg braces for his knees, walks with a cane, and has a poseable prosthetic right arm. - Rides with supporting straps across his thighs as his knees are weak - 

Omega likes to ride bareback/on a pad because she is so small in all her brother’s saddles

Another chapter done and posted for Another in the Hole! Finally getting some sweet and soft Omega and Wrecker interactions. Chapter 7 teaser under the cut!

Chapter 7 preview :3

“And then Captain Glitters says-” Omega paraded the black horse figure in the dirt between her and Wrecker. 

“I thought he was Prince Moonstone and I had Captain Glitters.” He offered a chestnut figure in return. 

“Oh right-” Omega swapped the figures, “So Captain Glitters says ‘I am the captain and I am here to rescue the princess!’”

Both turned and waited for Echo who was cleaning a bridle. Feeling the heat of their gaze he stopped to pick up the bay paint figure. “Oh my absolute hero~!” His voice pitched up and moved the pony figure through the air to show a dramatic swoon. 

Suddenly the palomino figure made an appearance to the scene, Omega cackling for it menacingly. “You’ll never succeed Captain Glitters! I have the ultimate defense! Come my pet!”’ 

Wrecker roared as he brought out Batcher, the black and red stuffed bunny, and shook it menacingly between the princess and Captain Glitters. In his other hand he brought Prince Moonstone to Captain Glitter’s side. “Oh Captain, what we gonna do?”

Omega puffed up, an attempt to look like Hunter during their meetings. “We stick together and protect our own!” 

She then had Captain Glitters attack Batcher, the scuffle between figure and plush interspersed with “Take that!’” and “And this!’” calls from her and playful roars from the very menacing bunny plush. A final blow and the monstrous plush was defeated. 

“No! My beautiful plan!” Omega had the palomino wail. Captain Glitters then swiftly knocked villainous equine over, “Your reign of terror is over Lord Minnow! Princess Speckles is free!” 

Wrecker moved Prince Moonstone to swoon at Echo, “Come with me Princess Speckles. Together we shall rule…” He turned back to Omega, “What’s the kingdom ‘gain?”

“Starfield Castle.”

“Right-, ‘Together we shall rule Starfield Castle as one.’” He made the black horse dramatically bow before Echo’s paint.
