December Tour 2019
Hello fellow Reverists! I hope your dreaming is serving you well during these troublesome times; whilst we may all be wearisome by now, through the cracks we may see the glimmers of light. I'm still looking down my own Reverie road, following my own 'Orso Bianco' and reminding myself daily that walking this path can only be done by putting one foot in front of the other. I know what I'm trying to do, I just don't know where it will take me. If I take my time, I will surely get there but if I run, I'll only tire myself out. We must keep up the precious Reverie.
This coming week I venture forth on another musical expedition, thanks to my dear friends at Brookfield-Knights. I shall travel across Wales, the North of England and Scotland with some of the finest musicians and beautiful souls I've had the pleasure to know in life. I'll also get to share a bill with the brilliant musicians known as Cua, who I've seen are already causing quite a stirring on their current tour in the south of England. I'm excited to meet up with those guys, hear them play and share our music and stories along the road. It sure is a crisp and clear time of year to be travelling and I'm looking forward to witnessing the beauty of the Scottish and Welsh mountains and valleys in this December light.
I hope that some of us may have the good fortune to cross paths on this coming tour. Come and say hello if you can.
Here are some of the things I can tell you about this coming week.
The musicians- I'll be accompanied for the first two dates (Abergavenny and Southport) by:
Adam Beattie - fellow Band of Burns bandmate and frequent collaborator. Adam and I once travelled to the south of France in a retired Royal Mail postvan with a top speed of 50mph and a heating system stuck on full heat. We got caught up in some serious weather en route and slept in the van during a flood. He'll be playing double bass and guitar.
Andrew Raven - Andy and I have played together on and off for around 13 years and we're still playing traditional music together frequently. We toured Europe with Dan Haywood's New Hawks and spent near an entire month in a car together. We once toured the UK in a classic mini-cooper which could only hold a guitar and fiddle besides us. It couldn't pass over speed bumps, so we drove on the pavement a lot. Andy will be playing guitar and mandolin.
Michael Paul Metcalfe - A fellow Donkey Hokey bandmate and one of my all-time favourite drummers. Metty, or Medwynne, and I also clock up a lot of travelling time together. Once we became curious as to a place named 'wonky parsnip' that appeared on our satnav screen and made a diversion to go investigate. We ended up sat in a field all afternoon. One of my favourite tour experiences to date. We're easily contented. Metty will be playing drums and bodhrán.
I am saddened that I cannot be taking one of my dearest friends and treasured Reverie bandmember Dominie Hooper on the road with us this time around but here's a promise to you that next year, and with a new record, I'm aiming for plentiful dueting with Dominie (if she's willing, of course!)
For the remainder of the tour dates, it'll be Adam Beattie and myself playing duet.
