Rosemary Pauline West is a British serial killer an inmate at HM Prison New Hall, Yorkshire. She was married to Fred West and the pair murdered and tortured 10 children, the majority of them were committed in the couple’s home in Gloucester.
Rose is known to have had a difficult childhood including sexual abuse, she is also thought to have sexually assaulted her two younger brothers. Just after her 15th birthday Rose first met Fred West, Rose initially was not interested in Fred’s dishevelled appearance but quickly became flattered by the attention and agreed to go on a date with him. Rose became a willing childminder to Fred’s two daughters, quitting her job to care for them full time. Rose’s parents disapproved of the relationship and contacted social services to inform them that their 15-year-old was having a sexual relationship with an older man and that they had heard rumours she was engaging in prostitution. Rose later became pregnant with the couple’s first child and looked after all Fred's children while Fred served time in prison for theft. She is alleged to have physically and emotionally abused the children. One of Fred’s children, Rose’s stepchildren, was reportedly non-submissive and refused to cry at Rose’s abuse, angering the woman. Rose is believed to have killed the girl shortly before Fred’s prison release in 1971. She stored the girl’s body in the coal cellar until Fred was released when Fred buried the body in the yard. When the body was eventually found several bones were missing, thought to have been kept as trophies. Rose continued to work as a prostitute, reportedly sexually torturing many of her clients and using heavy bondage, the couple’s home had a vast quantity of bondage, bestiality and graphic child porn and restraining devices.
Rose and Fred West committed a total of 10 murders, often sexually abusing, raping and torturing victims. One victim was another of the couple’s daughters who was murdered in June 1987, aged 16, she had begun to tell friends about the abuse happening at home. Rose reportedly kicked the girl in the head until she was no longer moving. Her body was found on the couple’s property. The couple also forced another of their children to prostitute herself, repeatedly raping and sexually torturing her.
During her trial Rose denied murder, blaming her husband and attempting to claim innocence. She was however found guilty and convicted of sexual assault and murder, she was sentenced to life imprisonment. She remains in prison now.
