Growing up in the situation that these three brothers grew up in is a clear example of the saying “having to grow up quick”. It is also a greater example of the importance of having a solid childhood. It displays the repercussions of failed childhoods and neglect growing up especially as young men. In the movie, the mother is quite honestly very much in a bad mental space, where she can lose sight of reality at any point. I think also the mother having gone through domestic violence and the factors that went into that proves that growing up too fast can actually lead to mental health problems like PTSD and such. I know in the story, although Jonah for example had an extremely good head on his shoulders, he has all of these rough experiences that can ultimately lead to PTSD. These brothers went through watching their mom loose her mind and go through domestic violence. Put yourself in the position of these children, would you still have the right mind frame during instances like theirs? A child shouldn't have to sacrifice their childhood for an adult.
