This past month, I’ve received a number of requests about what is the best way to share files online. The question I seem to get posed with a lot is how do i email a large file to someone? While email is great for sending attachments, most email clients would only allow for a certain file size to be sent. Most common services like Yahoo & Outlook would only allow for a 10 Megabytes (MBs) limit on the total email size, GMail usually allows for a 25MBs limit. If you try to send a file that’s beyond that limit, you may have a very wonky experience.
This is where file sharing services come in very handy. You can use services like Dropbox, Box.com, MediaFire etc. to upload your large files then providing a download link to the person you wish to share the files. You may then just email that link to the person. Gmail, allows for you to use their Google Drive to upload files that are up to 250 MBs, Yahoo has an integration that lets you upload files to Dropbox, and Outlook has their own service called SkyDrive that would let you do the same. But what if you have an extremely large file?
For extremely large file, - those that are in the gigabytes - services like Mega allows you to securely share up to 50 Gigabytes (GBs) for free. Here are a few other notable mentions for file sharing:
