I can't believe witches law isn't only idiotic but also homophobic. Atuarto I'm so sorry. I'll never forgive the Ministry.

Galga returns shaken from a mission but won't talk about it. Atwert takes it upon himself to coax the heartbreaking story out of Galga.
A little pre-canon story of my two darlings. I need more content with them being whole so here's something I whipped up

Haven't read it yet BUT
I just got WHA volume 10 today and I was just flipping through it and I just want to bring up this panel here:
For context, this is after Galga has his memory erased, and his partner Atwert (Atuarto in the fan translation) wants to stay with him, but is quickly dismissed by the knights moralis.
I remember when it was first revealed that Galga's partner was a man and he's shown being openly affectionate with him in public, a lot of people (myself included) assumed that witch society wasn't homophobic, and it's possible that it isn't to the same degree as in much of the real world, but this panel (and the emphasis on the word family) makes me wonder. Even if gay relationships are commonplace in witch society, or at least not openly frowned upon, are they still given the same value as straight relationships? Is it simply a matter of being legally married or not, in which case, is gay marriage legal? I'm assuming that these two are in a serious, long-term relationship, given Atwert's reaction to Galga losing his memory.
Now, I don't know a ton about the state of gay marriage in Japan, last I heard there were some prefectures where you could apply for a civil union, but they weren't recognized as marriage and weren't recognized everywhere. Given that Shirahama is a vocal LGBT+ ally, my guess is that this is an intentional parallel, showing that even in societies that are superficially okay with gay people existing, true equality doesn't exist unless gay relationships are given the same legitimacy as straight ones.
