One interesting divergence of manga to anime is the how the panel on the left was not adapted in the first episode
Certainly not a problem to drop it, I think it was absolutely the right choice to shave off some time, but it does mean in the manga, Qifrey’s presence at this time becomes a bit more important for Coco and her mother.
These highborn women were somewhat snooty/condescending, but otherwise completely normal patrons of a fabric shop. Until this moment, when they are inconvenienced and immediately start to throw accusations at the people they were previously getting along with just fine. Acting like these preteen boys were plotting to steal from them? It sounds ridiculous, but by virtue of their obvious wealth and status, they have a degree of power and influence to essentially ruin the lives of anyone else present. Those accusation aren’t meaningless. If Qifrey hadn’t been around, eventually they would’ve gotten home or someone would come looking, and then what?
Perhaps nothing tbh. They could be blowing hot air.
But this manga doesn’t shy away from the disparities between classes. Like the harsher consequences and lack of resources that common folk are faced with.
By interrupting at this exact moment and offering a magical solution, Qifrey was mostly doing a favor for Coco’s friends and mother, rather than the women of the carriage. Just an interesting perspective on the scene, which i doubt any of the kids were socially aware enough to notice. Coco’s mom must’ve been breathing a sigh of relief though
