The Meteor, the last of the experimental "whaleback" designed ships on the Great Lakes, was built in Superior, Wisconsin in 1896, and sailed until 1969. The design, created by Scottish captain Alexander McDougall, enabled her to carry a maximum amount of cargo with a minimum of draft. She is a museum ship in the city of her birth.
well i got this painting of a whaleback … And i made this years ago his/her name is James b. Colgate. A ship that looks like submarine but it’s actually cargo ship… it was going to scrap yard but thanks by someone who owned her but then when black Friday came everything changed for one ship… The Colgate was making it’s voyage in lake Erie when it mysterious spurn a leak and then the head of the bow dove deeper and deeper until it capsized to it starboard side…… The sinkage came so soundly three came on life rife two die, one live so only the Colgate’s captain can tell the tail of it James b. Colgate’s final moment… Because he had to wait for hours until a another ship rescue him… Today Colgate is still upside down and lake Erie is the only one whaleback steamer ship and that is lake Erie…
