. . .
The day has come. The practice exam was this afternoon.
When you woke up this morning, you felt like you wanted to throw up. Being stressed was an euphemism. You didn’t even know why you felt like that. You spent the previous weeks practicing, alone and with Wooyoung. You even had some help and advice from his boyfriend, San.
You never get why you were so stressed. Once the music started, all the anxiety and apprehension would disappear. It had always been that way when you danced.
These last few months, your body was really testing you, and you weren't thanking it at all.
You knew the steps perfectly, you and Wooyoung’s coordination and synchronization were perfect. You were more than ready, you knew it. And despite that, you were anxious, sure you’d fail everything, having bad notes, failing your scholarship after working so hard…
“Y/N ?”
The sudden voice startled you. In your kitchen, you were the last remaining in this apartment. Your roommates had already left, wanting to rehearse one last time before the exam.
You would have done the same, but the stress and anxiety had given you such a stomach ache that it took you longer to get out of bed.
You weren’t surprised to see Jimin not really anxious. You'd never seen him stressed when it came to dancing. And from the relaxed attitude Hoseok and Jungkook had shown since you'd met them, you suspected they were in the same category as Jimin.
When you recognized the voice and noticed Jin facing you, you couldn't hide your surprise.
“I thought you all left for work ?” you asked him, trying to stay calm.
“Yoongi don’t need me at this hour,” Jin replied with a chuckle, “I'll be more of a nuisance than anything else. Is everything all right?”
You noticed the two cups of coffee held in his hands when he handed one to you. You silently thanked him and took a sip after blowing on the top of the cup to not burn yourself. It was delicious. Jin's coffees were the best. He'd never forgotten how you took it, ever since the first time he'd served you on the day you met.
"I can smell your stress from the doorway, you know?" he said after a few seconds, seeing that you didn't answer because you simply didn't know what to say.
You chuckled and pursed your lips, it was a nervous laugh.
"Is it that obvious?"
"Trust me there's a picture of you next to the word anxious in the dictionary!"
Okay, the next laugh was more relaxed, more sincere. Jin had this sense of humor that some might find heavy and boring, but it was just the opposite for you. You were always the first to laugh at his jokes, sometimes even against your will. But what could you do? Jin was naturally amusing. He had a way of lightening the mood quickly and with just a few words.
“Everything will be fine, you don’t have to worry about that.” He kept talking, as he took a step towards you, "You've worked hard, you've done your best, there's no reason for you to fail. Don't forget that you're good, you're really good."
Delicately, his hand came to rest on your shoulder, provoking a slight discharge that was anything but painful.
How had you never noticed that what you felt for them, for him, wasn't friendship? That need you felt with every physical contact, your heart racing, your stomach twisting in such a pleasurable way.
You felt both foolish for having been so blind and in denial all this time, but at the same time relieved to have finally been able to put a word to all these things, to finally have a clear vision of the situation.
The only thing you couldn't control, and wouldn't control, would be the boys' reaction when you admitted to them that you were an omega. Because yes, now that the end of exams had arrived, and on top of that, you were going to be entitled to two weeks' rest, you were going to have to tell them (part of) the truth. You'd promised yourself you'd do it, you couldn't back out. Especially as your next heat could come at any moment.
Perhaps that's also where the stress came from, that uncertainty, that lack of knowledge about the coming heat you were so worried about, about how you were going to manage it, about...
"Y/N... you're overthinking again."
You bite your lips nervously, shaking her head with a nervous smile.
“Ah, yes, I’m sorry… I guess it’ll be better at the end of the day !”
Jin shook his head with a chuckle, and his face changed quickly from a most serious one, maybe the most serious face she had seen since she met him.
“I’m sure it’s more than just… this exam, but you won’t talk to us, nor Jimin. You know we could never leave you, or judge you, no matter what it is ?”
So they all noticed you were acting differently, didn't they? Of course, they could. You weren’t the best to hide when something was wrong. And even if you were, Jimin could read you like an open book. And you did not doubt that he would have later confided to his partners.
“I know, and it’s the same for me, I just… need to get done with this exam first.” you began, your voice trembling, “I know I haven't been... the most agreeable person lately, and I'm sorry for that, sincerely…”
You looked away, for some reason feeling your eyes sting, as if you wanted to cry.
“Hey, hey, listen... look at me, please,” Jin's hands rested delicately on your cheeks. He waited patiently, and resumed once your eyes met, “You don't have to apologize, we all go through moments more tense, more difficult than others that make us more tense and nervous, no one here holds it against you, believe me.”
You nodded. He wiped the few tears from your eyes and leaned to place his lips on your forehead. And it's a good thing you had a certain amount of self-control, that you could restrain your actions, your desires, and your impulses, because the only craving you had right now when you felt Jin's soft lips against your forehead, was to raise your face and have your lips meet his.
It was the hardest thing you'd ever had to do.
“Ah, I have an idea !” he exclaimed as he stepped back, leaving you with a very unpleasant feeling of emptiness, “I'll drive you to your class, we'll go through the café, and Yoongi will give you croissants and coffee for you, Minnie, Kook' and Hobi!”
You blinked several times, not taking your eyes off him while he moved into your apartment to grab your bag.
“Wait!” You called out as you grabbed his arm, “I thought Yoongi didn’t want to be disturbed before the opening?”
"Oh don't worry, we’ll be quick. Plus if it's you he won't say anything." Jin shrugged with a smirk as he handed her her bag, “You know, he doesn't show it, but he has a soft spot for you.”
You raised your eyes to the sky, trying to prevent your body from betraying you, but you couldn't. You could already feel your face and ears heating up. You knew Yoongi's temperament; he had his own way of showing affection to the people he loved. You also didn't doubt that he cared for you, but to use the word “soft spot”...
“You're blushiiing...” Jin suddenly teased.
“I'm not!” you exclaimed as you walked past him with your head down hiding any hints of blush if there were one, “Let's go! I don't want to be late!"
You didn't want Jin to be able to see what effect this was having on you, what effects they all were having on you. And that damn body that would only betray you... the coward!
“Yes ma'am!” Jin couldn't hold back his giggle and stepped out with you, wrapping his arm around your shoulder. The warmth of his embrace, his very singular scent didn't help your mood at all. “Aaah what are we going to do with you, little tsundere!”
“I'm not a... argh, you know what, never mind!”
You didn't know why, but you had a feeling it was going to be a very long day.
°°°
When you arrived at the dance hall less than an hour later, you quickly spotted Hoseok, Jungkook, and Jimin chatting with each other. Jungkook was the first to spot you and waved to you with his eternal big smile that melted you every time.
You looked around for San and Wooyoung, remembering the day before that Wooyoung told you that some of the second and senior-year students would be there to watch the first years, which added a layer of stress because some of them, being alphas, were the ones who had almost harassed you to be an omega at the beginning of the year.
But as you and Wooyoung had said to each other in the café when you first met: "We'll take the opportunity to nail all those pretentious alphas who like to spend their lives looking down on us!"
And that was your main motivation right now.
"Noona! We're here!" he exclaimed, drawing the attention of several students to you, which you decided to ignore because all their attention would be on you in about a dozen minutes anyway.
"Oh great pastries!" exclaimed Jimin, taking the box from your hands as you handed it to him, "They're from Yoongi hyung!"
"Thank god, I love him so much, I'm starving..." muttered Jungkook who didn't wait to open the box and take out a cupcake which he bit into instantly.
“Oh, you have Jin's scent on you...” Hoseok didn’t seem to be interested in pastries and approached you. You almost had the impression he was humming you quickly. "Hey, you're wearing his hoodie!”
You and Jin had gone to the café where Yoongi was already, and as Jin had told you earlier, Yoongi's face, initially shut and ready to scold Jin by reminding him that he didn't like to be disturbed in the morning, had immediately softened on seeing you appear beside him. Jin noticed this immediately and didn't stop himself from pointing out that he'd been right by giving you a little nudge on the shoulder and a chuckle, making you grumble as you did your best not to blush again.
Yoongi of course understood why Jin had brought you along, because like everyone else, he knew that this day was important for Jungkook, Jimin, Hoseok, and you.
He didn't ask any questions, he didn't even say a word. He just walked away and packed some pastries he knew you or the boys would enjoy, and you even noticed that he'd slipped a Strawberry Shortcake into the box, your favorite.
When he walked to you and handed you the box, you could have sworn he brushed his fingers against yours on purpose, sending a long shiver down your spine. But he didn't notice, or so you hoped because even if he did, you didn't see any reaction from him.
Once back in Jin's car, you noticed that you'd forgotten your jacket at the apartment, and unfortunately, you didn't have time to go home again. Jin hadn't hesitated to give you his hoodie, a café-au-lait-colored hoodie that was far too oversized for you, and you were floating in it, which made him laugh.
The reason you couldn't say no was his smell. Like all of them, Jin had a very particular scent, very sweet but very strong, which invaded your whole being the moment the hoodie's fabric settled on your body. That same warmth returned to your stomach and probably also to your face, but Jin couldn't see it since you'd pulled the hood over your head.
How could a simple piece of clothing make you feel so safe?
You blinked a few times and noticed your four friends staring at you, Jimin looking a little more worried than the others. Perhaps because he knew you best.
“Ah yes, yes I’m fine!” you assured with a small smile, "Of course I'm stressed, not to be would be a sign of recklessness!"
"Well, I'm not really..."
"That's exactly what I'm saying!" you exclaimed, cutting off Hoseok who just couldn't help but laugh, "Ah and yes it's Jin's hoodie, I forgot my jacket at the apartment..."
"You could have asked me, I would have given you mine," Jimin muttered before receiving a small elbow from Hoseok. You looked at him, confused, and rubbed the back of your head with a shy smile.
"You can give it to me if you want. No, wait... that's not what I meant..." you frowned, more to yourself, and tried to hide the heat wave by imagining yourself having not only Jin's scent but also Jimin's on you.
"Oh no? What did you mean then?" Jungkook leaned towards her with a small smirk, "If you want I can pass you mine too, and I'm sure Hobi will do the same!"
You frowned as you realized that Jungkook was starting to tease you, suspicions confirmed when Hobi also tapped him on the shoulder. But the mere idea of being surrounded by all the smells of your roommates and friends was enough to send a wave of warmth through your lower belly and your whole being.
You had to change the subject, avoid the conversation going any further, or maybe find Wooyoung...
Just when you needed it most, Wooyoung came up behind you and almost jumped on your back, snatching a laugh in the process.
"Yo, did you miss me?" said Wooyoung in a cheerful tone who had his arm wrapped around your shoulder, he turned to your three friends and greeted them, a thin smile on his lips as he saw Jimin's reaction. It had reached the point where Wooyoung liked to make fun of Jimin's reactions, as he was the one who was the most protective of you, and according to Wooyoung, even jealous and possessive. But you still refused to believe it, being 100% certain that Jimin felt nothing but deep friendship.
"You can't even imagine," you said ironically, rolling your eyes before grabbing Wooyoung's wrist and pulling you away from your three friends, "there's one last thing we need to discuss, good luck for later!"
"If you think we need luck..." chuckled Jungkook, making you roll your eyes at him again.
You quickly walked away with Wooyoung, isolating yourselves in a corner of the dance hall, before letting out a long sigh.
"Partly, but not only, there's something really weird going on..."
You quickly told Wooyoung what had happened with Jin, then your reaction to your previous conversation with Jimin, Jungkook, and Hoseok.
He remained silent for a few seconds after your explanation, before simply shrugging his shoulders.
"It's a common thing with omegas, it's called a nest. Well, it's not a nest, but your behavior bears a strong resemblance to one."
Seeing your confusion, Wooyoung gave a little laugh, not a mocking laugh, but an affectionate one, because indeed, you had a lot to learn.
He then explained to you that a nest is usually a place where an omega can be comfortable and relaxed, whether they are in heat or just having a bad day. It mostly is the omega’s couch, filled with soft things, the most smelling like their mates if they have one. When they are mated, omegas can share their nest with their partner.
"But that's the basic definition, made by idiots who like to put us in cases. It's happened very often with us that one of our alphas made a nest himself, because as long as it comforts them, why does it have to be only for omegas?"
You nodded and smiled. Well, of course, Wooyoung was right, and when you learned this, you wondered why you'd never heard of what a nest was before today. Having grown up in an all-alpha family, a very closed-minded family at that, you weren't surprised that they didn't practice this sort of thing. Thinking back to your mother and sister, you realize that they could both use a little bit of it. As well as a good therapy.
"So that means it's not a sign that I'm going into heat?" you asked, a long sigh of relief leaving your lips as Wooyoung nodded. "Good, I wish I could tell them before it happens, I wouldn't like to... force it on them you know."
"I understand, don't worry. Are you planning to tell them today?"
You'd had a long talk with him the day before, about your decision to tell Jimin and your friends that you were an omega, to tell them the whole story.
"Don't forget that if anything goes wrong, our door is wide open to you! Hongjoong hyung will welcome you with open arms, even though I'm sure everything will go perfectly!"
Wooyoung's optimism could be contagious at times. But he was right, you shouldn't think about the negative, you knew your friends after all, and you knew Jimin better than anyone else in this world. They wouldn't reject you for that.
You hadn't had time to reply, the teachers, and a few senior students, including San, entered the room. The first-year students fell silent, knowing that the serious part was just about to begin.
°°°
"Wait, you're first?!"
Jungkook exclaimed, looking at the grade board a few hours later. He turned to Wooyoung and you, as did several students who whispered words you didn't even understand.
Slowly, you walked over to the board and looked at the sheet of paper on which the grades were written.
Jungkook Jimin and Hoseok were second. It had to be said that their performance was incredible. They had successfully mixed their solo and trio performances, creating a highly original tableau while respecting the given instructions.
But apparently, the teachers preferred you and Wooyoung's performance. Even if there were only five small points that set you apart from your friends.
A week before the exam, you and Wooyoung came up with the idea of teaching each other's solo choreography to the other. The solo instruction was that the creation had to be original and from the student himself, and there was no indication that the duo dance partner couldn't participate. Several of you had this idea in your class.
It seems this technique had paid off because you were now top of the class.
"I don't believe it... Y/n pinch me please," asked Wooyoung in a whisper, before letting out a little scream as you obeyed. "Hey, that hurts!"
"You asked me to pinch you!" you exclaimed, turning to face him.
"But it wasn't serious! Ah, we're first noona, we made it!" Wooyoung's face lit up and he took you in his arms, making you burst into a frank laugh, but also a way of letting out all the stress accumulated over the last few weeks.
You hugged Wooyoung for a few seconds, unable to hide your joy and relief at having achieved such a formidable accomplishment, knowing the talented dancers in your group. Of course, you couldn't help but feel a hint of satisfaction at being able to rise above Jimin and your friends.
You, who'd always had that imposter syndrome when dancing alongside talented dancers like Jimin, Jungkook, and Hoseok, seeing your name inscribed in front of theirs made you realize that you belonged here, that you deserved it, like them, like Wooyoung.
San called Wooyoung, who jumped into his arms and couldn't help but share his joy with his boyfriend. San hugged him back, praising him. He stretched out his hand to you, and you gave him a high five as he winked at you.
"Noona!"
You turned to Jimin, who was walking towards you with a smile like you'd never seen before. Behind him, Jungkook and Hoseok seemed to be just as happy for you, and that only made your heart beat faster.
You'd always known that between you and Jimin, there'd never been any competition, but you'd had this little thought that maybe Jungkook and Hoseok wouldn't be like him, and you were so relieved to find out that you were wrong.
“It’s amazing, you are amazing!”
Jimin couldn't resist taking you in his arms, hugging you tightly. This time, you couldn't refuse this hug, you needed it. The stress of the last few weeks was fading away, and you missed your best friend's touch more than ever.
Anyway, you'd tell them tonight that you were an omega, you didn't want to hide anymore.
°°°
Or maybe, you could wait a little more?
Because now that you were probably a few minutes before telling (one of) the deepest secrets you ever had, you didn’t know if it was a good idea.
They were all here, you were all in Namjoon, Jin, and Yoongi’s apartment. They had decided to order a multitude of dishes and side dishes, which you shared on the coffee table. At the center of the table was a large bouquet made by Taehyung himself, who couldn't help himself when he heard how well Jungkook, Jimin, and Hoseok and you'd done.
“Y/N please, don't forget us when you'll be one of Beyoncé's main dancers, okay? I'd love to have an autograph!”
You nearly choked on your soda at Jin's remark, causing general hilarity.
“I don't want to dance for Beyoncé!” you couldn't help but laugh despite it, and you got up to grab a towel from the kitchen to wipe yourself off, “ah I swear Jin... you do have an imagination...”
You rolled your eyes as you heard them still laughing and joking about it. From the kitchen, you had a perfect view of the living room and your friends. They were eating, laughing, and teasing each other. There was no negativity in the room. You didn't want to risk ruining it now. But at the same time, you told yourself that if you didn't do it now, you'd never have the courage to do it again. You'd then have your heat without the ability to hide it, things could then degenerate one way or another, and you could lose them forever.
The thought only was enough to bring tears to your eyes.
“Hey Y/N, everything okay?”
Yoongi's voice startled you, and you realized that he had joined you in the kitchen. The others didn't seem to have noticed your sudden tension, too busy with their conversations, unlike him.
You didn't answer, just stared at him blankly at first, and could read the worry in his eyes, but also that little spark of gentleness that was so peculiar to him, a look that could give courage to anyone for whom it was intended. That look meant “You can do it, everything will be all right.”
It was the same feeling you had when you spoke to Jin earlier this morning, except that Jin passed it on with his words.
Your heart beat too fast, your mouth went dry. You had to do it.
Without breaking eye contact, you finally opened your lips, and the words came out slowly, in an insecure, trembling voice.
“I'm an omega.”
The others didn't seem to hear you. Yoongi remained silent for a few seconds, without saying a word. Seconds that seemed to last an eternity. Seconds when you had time to imagine the worst possible scenarios, and he seemed to have guessed it.
It was only when he gently took your hand in his that you noticed it was shaking.
“I know.” he murmured in a soft, reassuring voice, seeing your eyes widened with surprise and confusion, he shook his head with a small laugh, ” Later.”
You opened your mouth to reply but soon saw Jimin's face in your sight.
“Noona! What's the matter? Are you alright? Did you burn yourself? you-”
“Jimin, let her talk, will you?”
This time it was Namjoon who had spoken, his voice sounding just as reassuring as Yoongi's. Everyone had fallen silent and was staring at you. You looked at each of them, ending with Jimin, whose gaze was filled with unspeakable concern.
You felt a slight pressure on your hand from Yoongi, who wanted to give you the courage to go for it.
So, like with him, you did your best to gather your thoughts, to coordinate your voice and the words that should come from your lips.
“I... I am an Omega...”
Unfortunately, your voice was shakier than the first time. You couldn't help feeling even more ridiculous as you felt your eyes sting with tears.
“I am sorry... truly sorry I... I didn't mean to hide it...” you managed to articulate, ”I thought I was a beta until... recently and... I panicked.” you take a deep breath as you squeeze Yoongi's hand a little tighter, ”I'll understand if you're angry with me, if you don't want to be friends anymore or...”
“Don't be ridiculous!”
You recognized Jimin's voice and embrace, which came suddenly, but which you accepted with barely hidden relief. His voice was shaking.
“You're my best friend, the most important person in my life as if that could change over something as trivial as that!”
You couldn't hold back a tear that ran down your cheek. Tear that couldn't finish its way when Yoongi ran his finger over your cheek to wipe it away.
“It doesn't matter if you're an omega, an alpha, or a beta. You're our Y/N, we love you just the way you are!” exclaimed Jungkook, who sounded just as relieved as Taehyung and Jin.
Namjoon nodded with a small smile and approached you. You had trouble seeing him, as Jimin had decided to cling to you.
“It happens frequently actually. You think you are an alpha, and it turns out you're a beta, or an omega, or the other way around.” He explained, placing his hand on your hair as you acquiesced, which he began to stroke in a way that was intended to be gentle and reassuring.
“You all don’t seem that surprised…” you said as you remembered words a few minutes ago, and when you heard Jungkook cough, you turned to him, confused.
“I… I heard you a few weeks ago, you were on the phone with Wooyoung… Yoongi hyung heard me and we told the others…”
Ok, this one you didn't see it coming. But in the end, it doesn’t matter anymore.
“Why didn’t you tell us? Why didn’t you tell me?” Jimin finally asked, looking at you curiously, and somewhat a little hurt by your silence, which you thought was totally valid.
“Minnie, can you let go of her ?” Hoseok asked with a little laugh.
“No, I have months of hugs to catch up !” he exclaimed, his grip on you tightening a little, making the others sigh. But you couldn’t help but let out a laugh. You didn’t mind it at all. You need it more than anything right now.
Oh how you missed his embrace, his warmth, his scent all over you. It felt so good, so right to be in his arms. It felt like where you should be.
It felt like home.
“I didn't tell you because... when I saw the disgust... the disappointment in my mother's eyes...” You shook your head, swallowing back your tears, “That's why she asked me not to come anymore. I couldn't have supported... I couldn't have supported losing you too...” You looked at Jimin who held you closer to him, "to lose you all..."
Admitting these words out loud was harder than you thought. You weren't the kind of person to talk openly about your feelings, fears, and anxieties.
“I don't want things to change, I don’t want you to treat me differently...”
You bit your lower lip. Your heart was beating a hundred miles.
“I hope I never have to meet your parents,” Hoseok said in a cold voice you'd never heard from him, and strangely you found it oddly seductive.
“What a bunch of assholes,” Taehyung said disdainfully.
“I'm not even going to correct you this time. What a bunch of jerks.” Jin shook his head, frowning.
“Look, who cares? You're an omega, so what? Is this about your heat? We'll find a way to deal with it, just like we do with our ruts. We don't care, that's not the most important.” Namjoon smiles affectionately at you, “The main thing is that you feel comfortable with us, that we're all comfortable with each other, that's how a pack works after all, isn't it?”
This time, you hid your face against Jimin's shoulder, unable to hold back your tears any longer.
“Wait... did I say something wrong?” Namjoon asked somewhat panicked, making the others laugh, even you, between sobs.
“Don't worry, some stress to relieve.” Yoongi grabbed Namjoon's hand, kissing his cheek at the same time, before moving back to the sofa. “She’s fine now, everything will be fine from now on.”
“Ah Noona, I was so scared!” Taehyung exclaimed as he came around to hug you from behind, his torso pressing against your back.
All these weeks, all this stress, this tension, this constant fear of living through this fateful moment had just come to an end tonight.
Wooyoung had been right, once again. Things couldn't have gone better.
Perhaps there was still the feelings thing, but for the moment, you didn't want to think about it. You just wanted to enjoy this moment, this acceptance you'd never had before today. You just wanted to enjoy Jimin's warmth, which you'd missed so much, and Taehyung's, and even Jungkook, who'd added to the hug somehow.
As Jimin said, he didn't let go of you all evening, snuggling up to you like a Koala to its branch. You don't remember how the evening ended, except that you found yourself lying in a bed between Hoseok and Jimin.
And for the first time in what seemed like an eternity, you slept a nightmare-free sleep, your heart and soul as light as they'd ever been.

☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
Later, they will say it was the year when everything changed.
But that evening, Suguru wasn't thinking about it. He was just walking through the streets lit by yellow streetlights, looking at the windows of bookstores and cafes. The cool autumn wind prompted him to adjust his scarf, and he found himself noticing how the leaves were already beginning to fall silently. Nothing dramatic. Nothing remarkable. And yet, somewhere in the shadows of habit, something was shifting, imperceptibly, like a wave beneath the surface.
Suguru stopped when he noticed a loud crowd across the road. Looking up, he noticed something who where didn't there before. Something had been painted on the facades of a building. He often walked down this street and knew it hadn't been there the day before.
It wasn't the first time this kind of thing had happened in the neighborhood. Over the past five months, more than four similar works had been painted in just a few hours, attracting the attention of passersby and the authorities. The messages conveyed by these paintings were always political, feminist, or climate-related, like the one in front of him. They always denounced something. A kind of Japanese Banksy, in a way.
Suguru found it rather impressive, not getting caught by the authorities, conveying such strong messages and, above all, remaining anonymous without ever getting caught. He even admired that person somewhat.
He didn't linger too long and continued on his way. The café where he had plans to meet up wasn't very far away, and his friends were probably already waiting for him there.
Or not.
When he arrived, he looked around, searching for a familiar face, but saw only one. A purple head, bent over a book he knew to be about marine biology, a steaming cup of coffee beside her. He simply smiled and walked over, sitting down across from her. He had known Yuna Hoshino for several years now, and over time she had become a close friend.
“What species tonight?” he asked simply, in a soft voice so as not to startle her. She looked up and pushed her glasses back up her nose, her large green eyes surprised to see him. She quickly recovered and closed her book.
“Jellyfish. Did you know they don't have brains? Or lungs, or hearts!”
Suguru nodded, genuinely interested. “Really? How do they live?”
She sat up straight and crossed her arms, taking a sip of her coffee. “They have a network of neurons throughout their bodies that allows them to react to stimuli, swim, and even learn things. Well, it's more complicated than that, but...” She paused and puckered her lips slightly. “Sorry, I'm talking too much again...”
“On the contrary, it's very interesting. Are you alone? Shoko and Satoru aren't here yet?”
From the look on Yuna's face, he realized that they would probably be alone again tonight.
“Shoko is filling in for someone and is on shift at the hospital...” she began, motioning to a waiter so Suguru could order, "as for Satoru... I don't know, did he say anything this morning?"
Suguru also ordered a coffee and turned his attention back to his friend, who was putting away her book. He and Satoru were roommates, just like Shoko and Yuna. And yet sometimes, Suguru and Yuna felt like they were living with ghosts. Shoko and Satoru were the busiest of their group. She was working back-to-back shifts at the hospital, being in her final year, while he spent most of his time in practical work rooms.
“Shoko works too hard, she's going to end up burning out. And I haven't seen Satoru since this morning. I don't think he's at the party, but...”
“The star is in the house!”
Suguru felt an arm wrap around his shoulder and a chest press against his back. Of course, his heart skipped a beat, which he decided to ignore and blame on the surprise because, of course, Satoru always liked to make dramatic entrances.
“You really think I'd miss this? It's so rare to see Yuna stick her head out of the aquarium!”
The woman frowned. “Hey! I'm never at the aquarium, it's too far from campus...”
“Then why do you always smell like seafood?” Satoru asked innocently, resting his chin on Suguru's shoulder.
“What? That's not true, I...” Yuna lifted the collar of her T-shirt to smell it, a look of panic on her face, then turned to Suguru. “I don't smell like seafood, do I, Suguru?”
Suguru rolled his eyes and nudged Satoru lightly, pushing him to sit next to him. Ignoring his heartbeat again. “Of course not, don't listen to him, he's just messing with you.”
Yuna took advantage of Satoru sitting down to kick him in the shin, before turning her attention back to Suguru. “That's why you're my favorite, Suguru.”
Satoru pouted. “You're hurting me deeply, Yuna. I thought we were friends!”
Yuna and Suguru exchanged glances and started laughing. The waiter brought Suguru his coffee and took Satoru's order, a coffee for him too. They all needed coffee, honestly.
“By the way, have you seen the new painting on the facade of the building a little way from here?,” asked Yuna, taking a sip of her coffee.
Suguru chuckled slightly as he nodded. “About climate change this time. How long does it take to do this kind of thing? Several hours?”
“Not that long if you're good enough at painting,” Satoru replied nonchalantly. Yuna and Suguru exchanged glances, then turned their attention back to Satoru. “Because you've become a pro at street art now?” Yuna questioned. “Satoru, don't tell me...”
“Huh? No, it's not me!” Satoru quickly exclaimed.
Suguru sighed slightly and leaned back in his chair, “Too bad, I'm still curious to know who could do something like that. It's really impressive.”
Satoru looked at him out of the corner of his eye. “What, do you have a crush on this anonymous person or what?” he asked, something imperceptible in his voice.
Suguru turned slightly toward him, not noticing Yuna rolling her eyes and turning her attention to her cell phone. He didn't get why Satoru was saying that. And the tone in his voice... it sounded like he was... jealous? No, it was probably just his imagination. “You're talking nonsense, Satoru. Don't tell me you're not curious to know who's behind all this artwork?”
Satoru raised his eyebrows, turning his head toward the café's large window, seeing the famous street art in the distance. “It's just graffiti on a wall, nothing more. That's not how things are going to change.”
Suguru turned slightly towards Satoru, a small crease forming between his brows. There was something about the way he just said it, just a graffiti on a wall, that didn't sit right with him.
"You really believe that?" he asked calmly while taking a sip on his coffee.
Satoru shrugged, wrapping both hands on his own cup when the waiter brought it. "I just believe that painting something on a wall doesn't make a law change. It doesn't feed anyone. It doesn't fix anyting." He took a sip, unbothered. "It's just… aesthetics. Pretty aesthetics, sure, but aesthetics nonetheless."
Suguru was quiet for a second. Across from them, Yuna already subtly retreated. Her phone was now face down on the table, her coffee cup raised to her lips, her eyes moving between the two of them with the practiced calm of someone who had learned, over time, that the best thing to do in that kind of situation was to stay quiet.
"I disagree," Suguru said simply.
Satoru raised an eyebrow. "Shocking," he repeated, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. But he didn't look away from the window.
Suguru set his cup down slowly. "Art has always been political. It's always been a way to say things that couldn't be said otherwise. You think Picasso painted Guernica just for the aesthetics ?"
"Picasso painted Guernica, and Wars still happened," Satoru replied, still looking outside, his voice light, almost bored. "Funny how that works."
"That's not the point."
"Then what's the point, Suguru?" He finally turned to look at him, something unreadable behind the blue of his eyes. "That's beautiful? That it makes people feel something for thirty seconds before they keep walkin? Great. Wonderful. The world is saved."
Suguru held his gaze. "You're being deliberately reductive."
"I'm being realistic."
"You're being cynical."
"Same thing, sometimes."
A bried silence settled between them, not uncomfortable exactly, but charged. The kind of silence that had meaning. Yuna watched the exchange over the rim of her cup, saying nothing, her thumb tracing the ceramic handle in slow circles.
Satoru turned away from the window, his fingers drumming ligthly against his cup. "Name one war that stopped because someone painted something pretty."
"That's not how influence works and you know it," Suguru said, his voice even, but with an edge. "It's not direct, it's never direct. You don't paint mural and watch a parliament vote differtently the next morning. But you change minds. You shift something in people. And people…" he pause, "people change things."
"People change things," Satoru echoed, the faint amusement in his voice doing nothing to hide how little he seemed convinced. "Sure. And in the meantime, the paintings stay on the walls and the problems stay in the world."
"Bob Dylan wrote songs about the civil rights movement," Suguru continued, unfazed. "And Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye… The Cranberries with Zombie! You think that had zero impact? That it didn't reach people who had never set foot in a march? That it didn't make something feel possible that didn't before?"
"People still got lynched after Strange Fruit came out," Satoru said, his voice flat, "Segregation lasted another twenty years."
"That's not…"
"And Marvin Gaye didn't stop Vietnam. And Dylan didn't stop anything either, did he? Beautiful songs, really. But the war still happened. The bombs still fell. He tilted his head slightly, "Funny pattern, don't you think?"
Suguru exhaled slowly through his nose. He wasn't angry, not exactly. It was something more like frustration at watching his bestfriend deliberately look away from something obvious. "You're measuring the wrong thing. You're asking whether art stopped the bad thing from happening. That’s not the question."
"Then what is?"
"Whether it changed people. whether it made someone who would have stayed silent decide to speak. Whether it gave language to something someone had been feeling alone with for years." He paused. "Cinema. 12 Years a Slave. Schindler's List, The Voice of Hind Rajab. Documentaries that no one wanted to fund because the subject was uncomfortable, and that ended up in front of millions ofn people who had never once thought about what they were showing. You think that doesn't matter?"
Satoru was quiet for a second, his thumb running along the rim of his cup.
"It matters aesthetically," he finally said. "Emotionally, sure. But emotionally isn't politically. Feeling moved in cinema seat doesn't translate into legislation. It doesn't translate into systems changing."
"It trnaslates into people changing. And people are the ones who change systems."
While they were both arguing, Yuna was on her phone, calm and silent, watching the two men from the corner of her eye.
Shoko.. the lovebirds at it again.
She send the message to her roomate, not expecting her to answer immediatly but surprisingly, she did. She was probably taking a cigarette break.
You're telling me… what's the subject this time ?
Yuna pinched her lips to hold back her laugh.
Art. If art is political.
Sick. Always the good subject when I'm not here. Who's winning ?
The woman felt two gaze on her almost simultaneously and sighed, knowing it was time for her to participate despite herself.
No one at the moment, but I will in a few minutes ~ ♥
She put her phone down, looking at them, expression perfectly composed.
"I know you've been thinking something." Suguru said simply.
"You had your thinking face, still has." Satoru added.
"I don't have a thinking face."
"You absolutely have a thinking face." they said, in unison, with the ease of people who had said too many things in unison before.
Yuna sighed again, taking a sip before setting her cup down with a small, decisive clink. "I think Suguru is right." She held up a hand before Satoru could open his mouth. "Let me finish. Art doesn't change things by itself, you're right about that part. But art carries things across time that nothing else can. Just think about that italian song, Bella Ciao. At first it was a song used in the early 20th century to protest harsh working conditions. It was adapted in 1944 by italian partisans fighting against facism and is still used today. A protest gets disperesed. A law gets overturned. But a song, a painting, it stays. And the people it reaches go on to do things, to encourage them to do something." She tilted her head. "Greta Thunberg, Marsha P. Johnson, Tarana Burke, Audre Lorde, so many others people who lit fires that spread because the gound had already been prepared. By stories, painting, songs, books. That made poeple feel like something was wrong and worth fighting."
She took a deep breath and shrugged. "Without all those people, women wouldn't be able to go to college, vote and so many other things I'm too lazy to list."
She glanced between them, calm and precise. Satoru looked at her for moment. "So your position is the same as Suguru's."
"My position," Yuna said, picking her cup back up, "is the same as Suguru's yes. With one small amendment."
She took a sip.
"Picasso is a terrible example."
Suguru frowned slightly. "Why? He…"
Yuna gave him a look, flat and unimpressed, making him go quiet. "He was a deeply, profoundly, terrible person, and it's an euphemism. And if the anonymous painter out there is a feminist, which, reading all those walls, seems fairly likely, they would probably not love being compared to him."
A beat.
Suguru nodded with a faint smile. "Fair point."
"Of course it is."
Satoru was looking at her with something that might, on someone else, have been called respect.
"I take back what I said about the seafood," he said finally.
Yuna kicked him under the table again, but she was smiling. Satoru snorted. It was small, almost involuntary, but it was there. The tension been coiling quietly between the two men for the past few minutes loosened.
"So now, if you're both done with your weird flirting things…"
"We are not flirting!" they both said at the same, glancing at each other with something they both couldn't really name.
Seeing this, Yuna tilted her head, shaking her head with a sigh. "Anyway. I have an appointment for a piercing next week, would someone be willing to accompany me?"
°°°
The bill was split three ways, as always, despite Satoru's half-hearted attempt to pay for everyone that both Yuna and Suguru shut down before he'd even finished the sentence.
Outside, the air had gotten colder. Suguru pulled his scarf a little tighter and watched Yuna button her coat, her purple hair catching the yellow light of the streetlamps.
"So," Satoru said, hands in his pockets, rocking slightly on his heels. "The piercing."
Yuna loked up. "Next Saturday at three."
"Where?"
She tilted her head and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear, revealing the neat row of small silver rings already there. "Upper ear, the flat part." She touched it briefly. "I've wanted it for a while."
Satoru made a vague gesture. "I'll come"
Suguru glanced at him. He said earlier that he had to work on a paper due to the next Monday and really needed to lock in.
"You sure?" Yuna asked, with the kind of tone that meant she was already expecting him to canel.
"I said I'll come." He finally looked at her. "I'm not going to let you go alone to let someone stab a needle through your cartilage."
"That's essentially what a piercing is, yes."
"Horrifying. I'll be there."
Yuna chuckled, then nodded, not saying now that she planned to get tattoed too very soon. She turned to Suguru and hugged, warm, brief, the kind of hug tht had become a reflex over the years. He hugged her back.
"I will send you the adress Satoru!" she exclaimed as she was already turning to walk away, "Don't fight on the way home!"
They couldn't answer as she was always far enought to not hear them. They watched her disappear around the corner. When the night swallowed her up entirely, it was just the two of them.
They walked in silence for a while, which wasn't unusual. Silence with Satoru had never been uncomfortable, it had always been the kind that existed between the two people who didn't need to fill every gap. Suguru had always appreciated that about him, even if he would never say it out loud.
The streets were quieter now. Most of the cafés were closing, chairs being stacked behind fogged-up windows. Their footsteps were almost synchronized without either of them trying, a habit built over years of walking the same routes.
"She knows a lot," Satoru said, eventually. "Yuna."
Suguru looked at him for the side. "She usually does."
"About art, I mean." A pause. "Bella Ciao, Marsha P. Johnson,…" he said the names with a kind of absent precision, like he was cataloguing something. "The way she talked about it, it wasn't like she'd just read something somewhere. Isn't she in art club or something?"
"Not officially but she goes there regularly; I think she's made a friend there. Oh, and Marsha P. Johnson is well known in the queer community, she has been a true pillar of strength in this cause. But for Bella ciao yeah, I didn't know either."
"I just thought it just was a song made for Money Heist…" Satoru snorted and shrugged nonchalently.
Suguru chuckled but considered what he said about their friend. He had noticed it too, in a way you sometimes noticed things about people you'd know for years, a detail that had always been there, only now catching the light differently. Yuna knew things about art specificity that didn't match the perso who also spent her evenings reading about whales and jellyfish nervous system. The references she made were never random. They were always exact.
"It's a bit strange isn't it? She studies marine biology. She reads books about it at ten in the evening. And then she drops something like earlier like it's nothing." Satoru voice was thoughtful, not critical. Almost curious. "How long have we known her?"
"When she moved with Shoko… Four years almost."
"Four years." He said it like he was doing the arithmetic. "And I still feel like we know barely anything about her."
Suguru considered that. It was an accurate way to put it, actually. Yuna had always been like that. Present for her friends and yet somehow always keeping something back. Not in a cold way, more like someone who had learned to offer what was needed and keep the rest quietly for herself.
"That's just her way," he said finally. "She will told us when she'll be ready, and if she want to."
Satoru made a small sound that might have been agreement.
The crowd from earlier when they passed by the painting wall were gone. The streetlights made everything look a little warmer than it was, and the wind had picked up, pulling leaved off the trees in small, spiraling falls. Suguru pulled his scarf higher without thinking about it.
"For what it's worth," Satoru said eventually, and his voice was different, slightly lower, stripped of the easy boredom he wore like a second coat, "I don't think it's nothing."
Both had they their hands in their pockets. Suguru's shoulder was close enought to Satoru. They were almost touching, the way they always walked, proximity so habitual it had stopped registering. Or should it have stopped registered.
Suguru noticed it anyway. He said nothing about it.
"Bella ciao was a good ewample." Satoru broke the silence.
Suguru glanced at him. "Better than Guernica?"
Satoru made a sound that was not quite a concession and not quite a dismissal. "Different. Guernica is a painting. People have to go somewhere to see it, and seeing it on a screen don't it the same. A song travels differently." He paused again. "I'm not saying you were right."
"I know."
"I'm saying the song example is better than the painting one."
"Noted."
"Don't look so pleased."
"I'm not looking anything."
"You have a face."
"Everyone has a face, Satoru."
Satoru exhaled, something between a laugh and a breath of cold air, and looked ahead. They turned onto their street. The building was visible at the end of it, familiar and a little ugly in the way of student housing, with it's uneven gutters and the light on the third floor that had been flickering for two weeks.
The pavement narrowed slightly as they walked closer, the way it always did near the old wall on the left, and without either of them adjusting their pace or stepping aside, they ended up closer. Their arms brushed first, the outer seam of Satoru's jacket against Suguru's coat, which was nothing, which happened constantly.
Suguru's hand came out of his pocket, reaching for nothing in particular, just the restless movement of someone who had been walking in the cold for more than ten minutes. And Satoru did the same, at the same moment, for no reason either of them could have named.
Their knuckles brushed.
A second, less than a second, a minute or an hour. He didn't knew.
Neither of them stopped walking. Neither of them said anything. The contact was so bried it could have been accidental, the kind of thing that happened between two people who had been walking side by side for years and had simply run out of space between them.
Suguru looked straight ahead. He was aware, with a precision that had no business being that precise, of the exact point of his hand where Satoru's skin had been. The cold air made it worse, somehow, made the warmth of it more distinct than it had any right to be.
It was nothing.
The same nothing as yesterday in the kitchen, that had been happening in small increments for long enough that he had run out of new ways to file it away. A hand on his shoulder, a chin resting against his shoulder, a knuckle against a knuckle in the cold.
It was nothing.
He had been telling himself that a lot lately. He was getting quite good at it.
The same nothing as earlier. The same nothing as always.

Chapter 5 // Chapter 7
☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
The room was silent after Jungkook's explanation. He and Yoongi had not waited to go to the oldest of the two's apartments where their partners were. Fortunately, since it was so late in the day, they were all there, and reunited in the same place.
Jungkook shared what he heard during your conversation with Wooyoung and Yeosang. When you said you were an omega.
Jimin was the first to react. Of course, he did.
“I can’t believe it…!” he exclaimed after a few seconds, “She’s my best friend… we’ve known each other since high school! If she were an omega, she would've told me! She can't have lied to me…”
Sitting between Hoseok and Taehyung, he brought his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms around his legs with a pout. He accepted Hoseok's embrace, who placed a kiss on his head.
The other boys stayed silent. Some of them were quite surprised to learn this, but Namjoon, Yoongi and Taehyung weren't so surprised to hear it, something inside them knew it, they just couldn't explain it.
"But that'd explain a lot..." Jimin added with a sigh, " she's quite... different recently..."
He obviously noticed the change in your behavior towards him recently. You were more distant and less tactile, and you tended to isolate yourself more in your room, whereas before, you spent all your free time with them, in one of their apartments.
At first, he thought that the classes and the dancing were exhausting you physically and mentally, like him. And knowing you, you tended to isolate yourself when you weren't feeling well. But it had never lasted as long as it did. He would never have thought that the reason behind it was... that you were an omega.
"We've all noticed it, I think," Jin replied, crossing his arms and looking thoughtful.
"But if she really is an omega," continued Jungkook, "why did she hide it from us? Would she be... afraid of us or something?"
The younger’s question left the room in silence. Everyone had heard about your misadventures with alphas, the behavior of your parents, and your brothers and sisters who were themselves alphas. And even though Jimin had always been the exception to the rule in your life, and now the other boys, you still had a certain reserve towards alphas. And that was as a beta. So, if you were an omega...
“It's not as if it matters anyway,” Namjoon affirmed, “whether she's a beta, an omega, or even an alpha, she's with us, she's part of the pack. But it's true that I'm wondering why she's hiding it from us.”
"Everyone has their wounds, scars, we all do, and we know that our little Y/N has some deep ones that haven't fully healed yet..." Hoseok spoke in a soft, understanding voice, stroking Jimin's hair in a protective, reassuring way.
"It takes time to gain someone's trust, even more so when someone has suffered mistreatment, abandonment, or physical and psychological violence." added Namjoon, crossing his arms.
Namjoon was right, and everyone agreed with him. For them, naturally, it didn't matter whether you were an alpha, a beta, or an omega. You were who you were, whatever your nature.
Everyone also knew what you'd been through with your parents, how they treated you, how they had treated you in the past.
None of them had ever said or done anything inappropriate to you, as they would to any of them.
This was the first time in your life since Jimin that you'd been treated like a real human being with respect and consideration, with no alpha, omega or beta stuffs behind it. You were simply Y/N. That was why you'd been able to open to them, to relax and feel at ease in their presence, but there was still a way to go, they were aware about that.
“It’s easy, we can just go and ask her." Yoongi stood up, ready to leave the apartment, "there's no point in speculating and making yourself feel bad," he continued, giving Jimin a gentle look, "I'm sure she'll be able to help us clear up this issue. She's the best person to tell us about it. "
Yoongi was the most impatient of all. But inside of him, he didn't want to admit that you had hidden something from them. Something that in one way didn't matter, but in another way did, more than they or even you realized.
“Wait hyung!” Jimin grabbed his arms to stop him. “Maybe it’s… something deeper than just a little secret she hides from us… If we go and find her now, she might panic, and things could go badly.”
Yoongi rolled his eyes but didn’t argue with him.
“I don't want to risk losing her... I couldn't bear that.”
Jimin ran a hand through his hair as he thought about how he'd felt when he'd seen you with San earlier in the day. Even though the interaction between you had been completely innocent, he had imagined you leaving him and his companions to go with him, Wooyoung, and their pack. This simple thought had given him a painful sensation in his lower abdomen that made him wince.
He knew you weren't interested in San, or Wooyoung, or anyone else for either (or so he thought). But despite everything, he still had this fear deep inside of him, of losing the people he loved.
"If you'd told her how you felt about her from the start you wouldn't be in this situation."
Jimin turned his head towards Taehyung, surprised and shocked by his words.
"Taehyung!"
"I'm totally right, Jin hyung! He already knows! We've already talked about it several times."
Jimin felt six pairs of eyes on him and shrugged. Yes, it was true that Jimin had confided in Taehyung several times about you. About his feelings for you that he'd kept deep inside him since high school, about his desire for you that only grew stronger with each passing day. More than once, Taehyung had tried to get Jimin to tell you how he felt, but without succeeding in convincing him.
To be honest, it wasn't really a secret that Jimin loved you and that you loved Jimin in return.
At least, it was obvious to everyone except both of you.
“Namjoon, Yoongi, and I were best friends too…” Jin giggled, “And here we are now.”
Namjoon chuckled and nodded. They had already talked about how they had become more than friends. A drunken evening together had been enough to loosen their tongues and open their hearts.
“We need to find a good way to figure out all of this,” concluded Hoseok, “and we should tell her, too. Everything.”
They all glanced at Hoseok. Some of them were tense, especially Jin, Jimin, and Jungkook. But Taehyung, Yoongi, and Namjoon agreed with him.
“I don't know how you've done it, and I don't know how you've kept going all this time, Jimin,” Yoongi let out, stretching.
“Yeah, she's.... fuck I can't even describe it,” Namjoon muttered as he remembered what had happened between you and Yoongi a few weeks ago. In fact, it was that episode that had a triggering effect on him, on how he really felt about you. He also remembered noticing your change at that time, and that he would eventually get the answers to his questions.
Now he had them.
As for Yoongi, he didn't need all that to know that he felt an irrepressible attraction to you, the same as he felt for each of his companions.
They were all attracted to you. It wasn't the first time they'd talked about it, discussed a potential way to confess everything to you.
But how could they tell their roommate and beta friend that her seven alphas’ friends, one of whom had been her best friend since high school, all felt an attraction to her?
And what if her feelings weren’t mutuals to all of them?
“Listen…” Jimin began after few seconds, coming to his senses and straightening up, "I'll talk to her, let me talk to her first... but I need time to think about how to broach the subject, and with evaluations coming up..."
"Certainly Jimin, naturally." Namjoon replied in a gentle voice, moving closer to him and placing a kiss on his forehead, "whatever happens, you won't lose her. No one will lose anyone, I promise."
“But what do we do until then?” Asked Jungkook with a small pout.
“Well, I guess we had to wait, act normally, as we always have. We've been able to hold back all those months. Ah yes… years for you, Jimin.” Jin teased with a playful wink, ignoring the death gaze his boyfriend gave him, “we can hold back a little longer," he then affirmed with a nod, even if he was as unconvinced as his partners.
Their attraction to you was growing by the day. And the little encounter with Namjoon and Yoongi clearly showed that they were finding it harder and harder to contain themselves.
None of them wanted to lose you. And they would never, ever do or say anything to hurt you. They were all convinced that if you really were an omega, you had a good reason for keeping it from them until now.
°°°
You had no idea of the conversation going on upstairs, nor that Jungkook had heard a part of your call with Wooyoung and Yeosang.
After hanging up with them, you left your room to go to the kitchen and get something to eat. Noticing that none of your Alpha friends were present in the apartment, you concluded that they had probably decided to spend the evening together.
The idea pinched your heart somewhat. Of course, you couldn't blame them, they were together after all, you were just a friend to them (or so you thought). You didn't know why you felt this way. And you didn't like it.
As if your life wasn't complicated enough as it was, with the sudden discovery that you were an omega that you didn't know how to handle or how to tell your best alpha friend without him thinking you'd been hiding it from him all these years.
Losing him too... you didn't want to think about it. You didn't want to lose either of them.
One good news, however, was that there were currently no signs of potential heat. This gave you more time to think about how you would tell Jimin and the boys.
You didn't know when, or how they would show up, whether it would be like the first time, or not. But Wooyoung had reassured you that you'd feel the first symptoms coming on now that you were aware of your omega condition.
With a sigh, you headed into the kitchen to prepare yourself something to eat. Tomorrow would be a busy day, as you and Wooyoung had planned to train for longer than usual, as the fateful date of the demonstration and therefore of the evaluation was next week, and you needed to keep up your strength.
You didn't have the energy or the mood to cook yourself an elaborate meal. Simple instant noodles would do. You were just going to add some meat and eggs to the preparation, nothing more.
It wasn't long afterwards, when you were waiting for the water to boil, leaning against the kitchen counter with your cell phone in hand, that you heard the front door open.
"Oh, you're back already?" you asked, noticing Jimin, Hoseok and Jungkook. "I thought you'd had a lovers' date or something."
Your tone had been sharper and colder than you'd expected. You felt your heart and stomach twist slightly. Your three friends who'd just returned didn't seem to notice though, and so much for the better.
"Not at all, with the evaluations coming up, we don't really have time for this sort of thing anymore!" replied Hoseok with a laugh, approaching her with his hands in his pockets, "what are you making? Instant noodles, really?"
Hoseok's tone seemed accusatory.
"Noona! You're a dancer! You need to eat better than that!" Jungkook exclaimed.
You rolled your eyes, chuckling and shaking your head.
"No time or energy to make me a real thing. Would you like some too? Or have you guys already eaten? Don't say no and then steal my food as you always do!"
You heard Jimin's laughter, quickly followed by Jungkook and Hoseok.
Then, suddenly, reality hit you. It hit you as if a boxer had just punched you in the face.
Your head turned towards them, there they were, simply doing the simplest thing in the world. Talking, laughing, joking. And yet, it was as if it were the most beautiful thing, the most melodious sound you'd ever heard.
Your eyes widened, you stopped breathing for a few seconds, and you just stayed still, staring at them. Your heart was racing fast, too fast.
Oh.
Oh.
Thinking back, what you were feeling, at that very moment, why your heart was beating so fast when you were with one of them, when you were with Jimin, since high school. This desire to always be with one of them, this feeling of security, of well-being, of safety you felt in their presence. There were no doubts.
Wooyoung and Yeosang had explained it to you. At first, you hadn't really understood what he meant at the time (or you didn't want to understand it, you weren’t ready for that truth), but now everything seemed clear.
As if the fog in your heart and mind had finally cleared.
The attraction of an omega to an alpha, of an alpha to an omega, only worked if the feelings were there too.
It was simple, and logical. You felt a bit foolish.
You couldn't help but let out a nervous laugh, drawing the attention of the three boys.
"Noona? Is everything all right?" Jimin asked, clearly worried.
You looked up at him and noticed with surprise that the water had probably been boiling for many minutes.
Jimin was standing not far from you, his beautiful brown eyes staring back at you. This simple eye contact between you had been enough to make your heart rate quicken again.
"Uh I... yeah, yeah everything's fine...!"
You turned to pick up the packets of instant noodles, noticing without much surprise that Jungkook had added two more.
Your intonation wasn't as confident as you'd hoped. You saw Jimin's gaze become more serious. He took a step towards you, making you take a step back.
You could feel his singular, distinctive scent invading you, as it had since the first day, you'd met in the high school dance club.
How could you not have noticed it before? How could you not have realized?
You were in love with your best friend.
You were in love with your best friend, and his companions, your friends.
Well, technically you'd realized it a few hours earlier when you called Wooyoung and Yeosang. But now, now that you were face to face with the people involved... now that you were confronted with the undeniable truth... things were different, totally different.
Your gestures were suddenly clumsier. You couldn't hide the fact that you were troubled for some reasons unknown to him.
To your relief, Hoseok and Jungkook were in the living room, seemingly focused on some program playing on the TV. But Jimin was still there, scanning you completely.
He was the one who'd known you best, for the longest time. He knew something was wrong, without really knowing exactly what.
How to tell him that in the space of a few weeks, you'd learned you were an omega, but on top of that, you'd just realized how you felt about him and your friends?
It was a lot to take in, to accept for someone who hadn't learned to express her feelings and emotions.
You had to calm down, not panic, not worry Jimin.
As for the last point, it was already a bit of a failure.
"Noona, please, talk to me..." he murmured, his hands resting delicately on your shoulders.
You took a deep breath, trying to calm yourself, resting your hands on his. They were so soft, you couldn't help but squeeze them, wanting to hold them longer.
You never wanted to let them go.
"I'm fine, just a little... stressed and tired, it'll get better after the evaluations, I promise."
Jimin didn't seem convinced, and you could read it on his face. You smiled at him and took him into your arms for a long hug, holding him tightly against you.
He seemed surprised at first, but eventually returned your embrace, his arms wrapping around your waist and his head resting against your shoulder.
You made a decision. In truth, you'd made up your mind after your call with Wooyoung and Yeosang, but now you were sure and certain you wanted to do it.
After your evaluations, in less than two weeks, you'd confess everything to the boys.
... well, maybe not about your feelings for them. Not just yet, and maybe you never will. Never could your feelings be returned.
But you owed them the truth that you were an omega. You had an unspeakable fear of reliving the rejection you experienced with your family, but lying to your best friend, to your friends was worse than anything.
As you felt his warmth, his scent takes possession of your being, your body had relaxed.
"I'll always be with you Y/n, no matter what," Jimin murmured, his embrace around you tightening, and you couldn't contain the shiver as his breath brushed up against your skin, "you and me against the whole world, remember?"
He lifted his head, and you stared at him a few seconds before letting out a laugh. You hadn't heard those words since high school.
"Hey lovebirds, you're cute and all huh, but we're starving!”
"We're not lovebirds!" Jimin and you exclaimed at the same time, causing Jungkook and Hoseok, the one who spoke, to burst into hilarity.
You stepped back from Jimin and turned your back to him while he bickered with his two partners, mostly to hide your face and your blushes from them. You took the packets of noodles, the pre-cut meat, and the eggs. You put everything in the boiling water pan, taking long, slow breaths, trying to calm the pounding of your heart.
Damn it. Those guys will really be the death of you.
"We don’t get a say on how it ends, we never have. But we can control how we live."

Chapter 3 // Chapter 5
☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
She was wondering whether it would be better to ask Handong to stay with her. She had assured her that she would handle the situation and that Handong could go home. She knew that Gahyeon would need her at their coffee shop.
However, now that she was in the living room of the seven boys, her soulmates’, after bringing one of them in an utterly unconscious state for a reason as unknown to them as it was to her, she was starting to regret this decision.
She couldn't understand what had happened with Jin the moment their eyes met. She couldn't say anything, the words were stuck in her throat as they stared at each other without a word. He parted his lips as if he wanted to say something, but just like her, nothing came out.
He'd known she was his soul mate, of course he could feel it. Just like her. But had he recognized her? Did he know that the two of them were the firsts of their soulmate bond to meet, long before any of the other six were born? She couldn't be sure and didn't have time to find out.
She had seen his features contort in pain, and without a word, he had collapsed. Luckily, Handong, who had seen them, was able to catch him in time, preventing him from falling to the ground and potentially injuring himself.
Thanks to a spell that increased her strength tenfold, she could carry him without Handong’s help and any difficulty to the place where he lived with his mates. But she couldn't stop herself from hurrying, worried sick about him.
And that's where she is now. Jungkook helped her carry Jin to the living room, laying him on the sofa. While Yoongi woke up Taehyung and Namjoon. Jimin and Hoseok hurried to get a damp cloth on Jin's forehead.
Namjoon and Taehyung stormed into the room, not hiding their surprise at seeing her there in total panic.
However, they didn't ask any questions. Yoongi probably had to explain to them what happened and what was going on.
She was standing in front of the sofa where Jin was lying, staring at the unconscious demon, his features distorted by pain. The sight of him was enough to make her stomach twist with soreness.
"Hey, Noona..." Jimin's soft voice startled her. He was standing next to her, a comforting smile on his lips, "Everything’s going to be fine, don't worry..."
She didn't even know what to say. She didn't dare to look him in the eye, or any of the other boys. The guilt she'd been carrying around with her all these centuries was only getting stronger.
She could hear voices behind her, probably the boys talking amongst themselves, or maybe they were trying to talk to her. She didn't know. Nothing around her was clear and precise. Her vision was blurring, her heart rate had been racing for a while and she was getting worse.
She gasped when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned round abruptly, facing Namjoon. The other boys were behind him, except for Yoongi who was next to Jin.
"Hey," he greeted her with a gentle smile, "don't worry, everything's going to be fine,” he repeated Jimin’s words, “You're having a panic attack, I'm gonna help you, okay? Look at me."
His voice was soft and reassuring, it had a calming effect on her. His presence and warmth invaded her whole being, despite the anxiety attack she was having.
She raised her eyes to meet him. Slowly, he tells her to take long, deep breaths. The first time, she breathed in and breathed out. Then a second time. And a third.
Finally, her breathing returned to normal and her heart rate calmed. Seeing this, Namjoon gave her another smile, his fingers caressing her shoulder to calm her down.
She had the strange impression that Namjoon probably possessed some kind of power capable of influencing the emotions, feelings, or even bodily reactions of the people he touched. Or maybe it was just the soulmate effect.
"Feeling better?"
"Yes... Thank you..." She replied with a small smile, seeing Hoseok approach her with a glass of water. "Thanks… and sorry, I wish we'd met under different circumstances..."
"Don't worry sweetheart, I'm enchanted to meet you."
Hoseok gave her a big, bright smile, which he succeeded in communicating to her.
"I guess you guys have questions... and why did I show up with Jin in this state..."
She turned her attention to Jin. A wave of emotion suddenly washed over her as she realized that yes, he was there, in the same room as her. Her soul mate, the first to cross her way, the one she'd lost so suddenly and brutally centuries ago. A mixture of joy, sadness, guilt, and apprehension.
"Do you know what's going on with him? And why is he in this condition?" Hoseok asked curiously, taking back the glass she'd just drunk in one long sip.
She bit her lower lip nervously. She had to tell them. Jin was their soulmate, just like he was hers.
But where to start?
"Come on, settle down here."
Yoongi straightened up to install her on the sofa, right next to Jin still unconscious. He'd then sat down next to her, while the others had taken seats in front of her, Namjoon and Hoseok on the low table, the maknae on the floor, clinging to each other.
The sight made her smile gently. But quickly the smile disappeared, replaced by apprehension. The words just wouldn't come out of her mouth. She knew that the moment had come, that once she'd told them everything, they'd hate her, reject her, and she’d lose the people she'd waited for all her life.
"Noona... I can smell your fear all the way up here..." murmured Jimin, her eyes landing on him with surprise, "I'm an empath, by the way..." he explained with a shrug.
"You don't have to be an empath to sense the fear radiating from her." chuckled Taehyung, teasing his companion who gave him a nudge on the shoulder, "Oops, sorry sweetie."
"I know that from the moment you will know the whole story, you'll never want to hear from me again and I... argh that's the last thing I want," she admitted with a sad smile. The events of the last few days had paralyzed and overwhelmed her in some ways when it came to making the right decisions, and she was extremely upset with herself about this.
"But I think I need to stop being scared, and selfish like I have been."
"We could never hate you," Hoseok said firmly, the others all giving signs of approval, "no matter what you've done."
"Tell us all the horrible things you ever did, and let us love you anyway."
She recognized Namjoon's words. And she wasn’t surprised that he could quote Edgard Allan Poe, considering the circumstances of their first meeting.
She couldn't deny that his words made her feel a tinge of comfort, because he was sincere, and every one of the other boys thought so.
But they didn't know the whole story yet, so the chances of them thinking differently once they knew the whole truth were pretty high.
"Where to start..." she took a long breath, "Jin... I met him before I even knew I was immortal. That was... uh... it seems like an eternity now, at the beginning of the 15th century."
She expected the exclamations of surprise that followed.
"Wait... you mean you and Jin hyung..." Jungkook fell silent to think.
"Why didn't he ever tell us about you then? And why have we never met you before ?” asked Yoongi skeptically, "You're our soulmate, his soulmate, how could he..."
"It's more complicated than it sounds..." she sighed, scratching the back of her head nervously. "I always knew I was a witch, my mother was a witch herself. I lived in a village in France during the period when the witch hunts began. It was also during this period that the Malleus Maleficarum was written."
"I know this book," Hoseok sighed loudly as he shook his head, visibly annoyed, "this pile of garbage written in the late 15th century, which supposedly explains what a witch is, how to recognize one, interrogate them, and kill them."
"A load of bullshit yeah," Namjoon added with a chuckle, "I rarely waste my time reading books, but this one..."
"Tell me more !" Jimin exclaimed, "I read it too, well, not all of it, it's so... misogynistic and sexist!"
"I... was one of the witches who had to go through all the torture and experimentation to write this... book or whatever it is. And most of the women who suffered all that crap were just ordinary mortals," she admitted with a little restraint.
Horrified exclamations were heard from the maknaes and Hoseok. Yoongi and Namjoon closed their eyes for a few seconds, repressing the anger rising within them.
Talking about these events did not leave her indifferent; these memories were among the worst she had ever known, and she still sometimes had nightmares about them.
She remained silent for a few moments, before finally speaking up.
"That's not the point. Jin is the point. When I met him, he was a merchant passing through the village." A small smile appeared mechanically as she recalled this memory, "It was love at first sight. Of course, it was. He knew I was his soul mate, but I... I didn't even know what a soulmate was. He taught me. He taught me so many things..."
She turned her head towards Jin, still unconscious beside her. Oh, how she'd missed him. He hadn't changed a bit.
"I immediately sensed that he wasn't human, just as he'd guessed that I was a witch. So much better in a way, it made things easier."
Delicately, she let her fingers stroke his forehead, brushing aside a few strands of hair, a tender smile on her face.
"He stayed in the village after that. I had taken over the bakery from my parents who had passed away from an illness a few months before I met him. We weren't the richest, but we were happy.”
The other boys couldn't contain the grins on their faces. Of course, this story was beautiful and worthy of a fairy tale. But they all knew that fairy tales were only fantasy stories. The reality was not nearly as lovely.
"We lived... two years like that before everything went to hell."
She felt her hands tremble as she recalled what she was about to say.
Jimin sensed her nervousness, fear, and sadness. He left Taehyung and Jungkook's embrace to kneel before her, gently taking her hands in his for comfort.
Her gaze met his, and he offered her a gentle, reassuring smile. But she couldn't relax.
"The witch-hunt had begun and was becoming increasingly virulent and violent. The villagers had always thought it was strange that I hadn't suffered the same illness as my parents. I knew the rumors about Jin and I. But until now, we'd managed to keep a discreet, almost unnoticed presence. Until she came along."
Jimin squeezed her hands a little tighter as he felt her anger rising.
"That demoness... came to our village, supposedly a cloth merchant. She fell for Jin. Was it love, or just a physical attraction? I don’t know. She succumbed to his devastating charm, like so many others before her." She chuckled, imitated by Yoongi.
"As you would expect, Jin did nothing but ignore her and rebuff her advances. She didn't appreciate it at all… I learned later that this half-succubus demoness was renowned for finding prey and not letting go until she got what she wanted."
"A real nasty leech..." muttered Jungkook.
She noticed, however, that Namjoon, Yoongi, and Hoseok expressions had changed. They had exchanged glances, seeming to pass a message to each other that she didn't understand. She decided to ignore it for the moment.
"Things got worse after she arrived, after Jin's rejection." She took a long breath. "She's the one who delivered me to the villagers, who exposed me. When we realized her plan, that she was planning to take Jin with her by force, by any means necessary, we wanted to run away. We'd go to Asia, or America, or wherever, to another continent, away from her, away from all of this. But that demoness had planned everything… We were young, unaware, and inexperienced, unlike her. I was barely 25, and he was 23... we just wanted to..."
She paused to calm herself, her heartbeat quickening again. Fortunately, Jimin was able to calm her, just by being here, his soft hands on hers, and she was grateful for that. She thanked him with a small smile, which he returned by stroking the back of her hand with his thumb. How could a demon be so angelic?
"She specialized in memory magic..."
"Oh, I'm getting the hang of it..." muttered Namjoon, clenching his jaw.
"That bitch…" added Yoongi, making her huff.
"The villagers arrived in the middle of the night. We didn't see it coming. The demoness took advantage of this moment to attack Jin and cast a spell to erase me from his memory. The last time I saw Jin was before they put a bag over my head when he was unconscious in her arms."
She lowered her head, and it was only when she felt Jimin's soft hand on her cheek that she noticed a tear had rolled down.
She knew what the demoness had done, she knew that she'd erased Jin's memory, simply because she'd come to see her a few days later in the cell where she was being held captive. She explained everything, adding that she had offered to give her over to the Catholic order of Dominicans who wrote the Malleus Maleficarum. Which happened, the day after she came.
"When I finally escaped... After several months," she continued anyway, her voice trembling, "I looked for him, I... crossed France from top to bottom, and Europe... I looked for him everywhere, for many years... I never found him... until now..."
Jimin's hands gripped hers a little tighter. She looked up at him, then at Yoongi, who had moved a little closer to her. Their shoulders were touching, his way of showing her some comfort.
"So that's what happened..." muttered Namjoon, who had straightened up, his eyebrows furrowed, looking thoughtful.
"I hate humans..." blurted Jungkook as he hugged Taehyung tightly, his companion nodding in agreement.
"And so, you thought we'd hate you, or I don't know what other nonsense might go through your little head when we know the truth?" Yoongi asked, holding back a laugh. “I don’t see why. I mean. It’s genuine, really.”
She arched her eyebrows in confusion. She thought that it seemed logical. She hadn't been able to protect Jin, she’d left him in the clutches of this demoness who'd probably done a thousand and one things to him that she didn't even want to think about. She hated herself for it.
"Hyung." Hoseok sighed, shaking his head, "stop."
"I failed to protect him, he's my soulmate and... I abandoned him and..."
"You didn't do any of that, Y/N."
Namjoon approached her. He took Jimin’s place and knelt down facing her, placing his hands on hers.
"You're both the victims. You've met someone stronger, older, more experienced than you and she took advantage of it. You did everything you could. You did your best. You could never be blamed for that. We could never blame you for that. ."
"And Jin hyung won't blame you either, I'm sure," Hoseok added with a small smile. "When he will regain his memory, when we will give him back what that demoness stole from him, he'll be the happiest man in the world to have you back with him, with us. Believe me."
She pressed her lips together, not wanting to cry, not yet.
Yoongi wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer.
"It's over now," he whispered against her hair, "you're not alone anymore, you won't be. We've found you, you've found us."
She couldn't hold back the few tears that had started to fall. How could she not break down, after all those centuries spent alone, thinking that her soulmates didn't want her, living with the guilt of having abandoned the only soulmate she’d ever known.
They said the same things as her friends when she told them everything a few days ago.
None of them thought for a second that what happened to Jin and her was her fault.
That feeling of being understood, of not being judged, of being accepted despite her past mistakes and scars.
That feeling of being in the presence of her soul-mates.
She hadn't felt so at peace in what seemed like an eternity. Ever since Jin and her were separated.
°°°
"Noona... I have a few questions..."
"Here we go... the kid and his questions. Wait, I'll get you an aspirin and a big glass of water."
Jungkook glared at Yoongi, who had gotten up to go into the kitchen, a sneer on his lips.
Jin still hadn't woken up, but after a simple soothing spell and an herbal ointment she’d carefully placed on his temples, he was calmer, his body more relaxed.
She hadn't wanted to stay, not wanting to risk another attack if Jin woke up again. She learned through Yoongi about the migraine attacks he'd had since the day she met Namjoon.
But the boys convinced her to stay. Namjoon and Hoseok had disappeared into their library, explaining that they were going to rummage through their books after a potential counter-spell. She wanted to go with them, but they insisted she stay with Jin and rest.
It didn't take long to realize that Jin's seizures had a direct link with her.
As her soul mate, and despite his forced amnesia, his subconscious knew who she was. But it wasn't strong enough to bring back the memories the demoness had made disappear. Well, they hadn't disappeared, technically; she'd just hidden them very well somewhere in his psyche.
her scent on the clothes of Namjoon, Yoongi, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook had been the trigger for his subconscious to awaken, for his memories to struggle, to resurface and make Jin realize that yes, he did know her, as his intuition suggested. Yes, the person on the hill was her, yes every memory he thought belonged to someone else was his, and that the blurry person sharing them with him was none other than her.
The migraines, the loss of consciousness... were only signs that his body, mind, and soul were fighting to bring his memories back to where they belonged, to finally give him back what that demoness had stolen from him.
Or at least, that's what she’d come to conclude on hearing Yoongi's explanations.
"Ask me anything Jungkook, don't worry," she replied with a small smile, still sitting next to Jin.
Yoongi had returned with some drinks (no aspirin, to Junkook's great relief) which he gave to the three maknae, still sitting opposite her, and to her, then sat down on the coffee table.
"I was wondering, how did you find out that you were... immortal? I mean, what does that actually mean?"
She'd been expecting this question. Even for demons, immortality was still a rather vague concept. Nobody is immortal. Demons and vampires aged slowly, very much more slowly than human beings. But they weren't really immortal.
"I died for the first time after the Malleus Maleficarum experiments, they sentenced me to be hanged to death, like all the witches at that time."
She heard the exclamations of surprise from the maknaes. Yoongi remained silent, listening to her attentively.
"I actually died that day. Except... except a few seconds after I took my last breath, my heart started beating again, and I came back to life."
None of them could believe their ears. Yoongi couldn't hide his surprise either, and she knew that a thousand questions were forming in their heads.
"The second time was a few days later. At a bonfire." she continued, bowing her head, "The thing is… I feel all the pain, all the way to death. But for some reason, I live again and again. No matter how people try to kill me, no matter how I die, my wounds heal themselves, my organs reform."
"Is it due to a spell?" finally asked Yoongi with his eyebrows furrowed, "or maybe some kind of witch, a hybrid with a phoenix..."
"I think you're going a bit far, hyung..." Taehyung chuckled slightly.
"Hey, every proposition can be plausible, gamin."
She couldn't hold back a smile. It was obvious that they'd known each other for several decades now, that they'd been through a lot together. In a way, she was relieved that at least they hadn't had to go through all that alone.
"I've never known the reason, or why I became like that," she finally continued, scratching the back of her neck, "I just am. Several times I thought I wouldn't get up this time from certain injuries, especially during the wars, but I always got up again. And just like that, more than 600 years have gone by."
"Maybe it's just that fate didn't want you to die before you met your soul mates, who knows." Yoongi chuckled, shrugging.
"If you think the universe and destiny are that kind of romantic..." Jungkook rolled his eyes.
"I'm tempted to believe that theory, it's much sweeter and more romantic than a curse put on you..." added Jimin with a little pout.
"Sometimes things just happen, and they're impossible to explain. Even for creatures like us." she let go with a sigh and an embarrassed smile, "In any case, I've stopped looking and obsessing over it, I've just accepted it."
"Still, it must be painful to die, over and over again..." Jimin cocked his head to the side, feeling a wave of sadness as he thought of all she'd had to go through in her long life. As an empath, his reaction hardly surprised her.
If they knew. She didn't want to dwell on how some humans and even other creatures had taken advantage of her immortality to put her through the many horrors she’d experienced. This wasn't the time to talk about all those things.
“Our pretty soulmate is strong and courageous.” Yoongi finally broke the silence after a few seconds, “She’ll talk about it when she feels ready.”
She bites her lips. She wanted to tell him to not call her pretty, but she felt that it was destined to fail. Yoongi seemed to be stubborn, maybe a little too much.
“Do you guys think Joonie and Hobi will find something ?” Asked Jungkook, looking at Jin with worry.
“For sure they will!” exclaimed Jimin, “Namjoon has books that are centuries old and unique, Hobi and him are the most intelligent demons ever! They’ll find something, surely!”
Jimin was passionate, his trust in his partners was blind and absolute. It was probably the same for all of them, she was sure about it, but Jimin was the one who showed it the most.
“In the worst case…”
“Taehyung don’t start…” mumbled Jungkook, as the others sighed.
“Let me finish! In the worst case, if we don’t find anything for Jin hyung, the solution is simple, very simple. We’ll create new memories, so many new happy memories all together!”
“If something was robbed from you without your consent, I think you'd like to have it back. Don't you think so?" Yoongi asked, his voice softened as he ruffled Taehyung’s hair who nodded with a sad pout.
He was just as worried as the others. There were so many unanswered questions, so many theories without explanations, so many problems without solutions yet.
“Namjoon and Hoseok always find a way to resolve problems, you should be used to it now.”
That voice startled all of them. All five heads turned to the sofa beside Yoongi and her. To everyone's surprise, Jin was staring at them, or rather, at her.
“Jin you’re awake !”
While the younger hurried towards their eldest, their faces racked with worry and relief, she reflexively stepped back.
She couldn't get very far, as her back bumped into a chest. She turned to face Yoongi, who placed his hands gently on her shoulders. He could read the stress and apprehension on her face. He couldn't imagine what she must be feeling right now, coming face to face with the one she'd lost centuries ago.
"Where are you going like this?" he asked at first in a slightly teasing tone, before he leaned towards her and whispered, his voice softening, "Relax, everything's fine."
She opened her mouth to reply, but no sound came out. She'd spent her whole life looking for Jin and his other soulmates. Now they were all here. They were all in the same house. Everything still seemed so unreal that she didn’t know how to react or what to do.
“Y/N ?”
She froze when she heard her name coming from Jin's lips. The others in the room gave him a surprised, confused look.
"Hyung, do you..."
"Remember her? Us? Unfortunately not, I don’t. But I heard you guys talking earlier, I wasn't totally unconscious. Thanks for the herbs, by the way, they really appeased my headache."
Her eyes widened at his words. Had he heard everything? Did he know the whole story, just like his other soulmates? In a way, she didn't know if she could handle a new explanation, which was a bit of a relief. On the other, she was concerned about his reaction, since he was the one who was affected.
Jin straightened up to sit on the sofa, helped by Jimin. Yoongi was still standing behind her and gave her a gentle nudge, so that she didn't push herself aside.
Jin's eyes landed on her. For a moment, he said nothing, just looked at her. She could feel the stress twisting her stomach, her legs going limp as cotton. She felt weaker than she had ever felt before.
"Can you come a little closer, please?"
Jin's voice was soft; she perceived no anger, no resentment on his side. He had kept his comforting aura, the same one she'd known so long ago, the same one that had reassured her countless times.
She soon faced him and lowered herself slightly to be at the same height as him.
How was someone supposed to react to finding their soulmate and youthful amnesiac love, lost in tragic circumstances centuries ago?
She was torn between tears of joy and relief, but the guilt that consumed her seemed to be the most dominant feeling at the moment.
"Jin I..."
She pursed her lips. Her voice trembled. For sure her body would betray her right now.
Jin offered him a tender smile and shook his head.
"Shht, it's all right." he murmured his words as he gently grasped her hand, "come here."
Without waiting for a response from her, he pulled her against him and wrapped his arms around her.
At first, her eyes widened in surprise. Quickly, she couldn't hold back any longer. Her arms followed and she hugged his waist as if her life depended on it.
"I know what you're thinking," he began, his hand running gently through her hair, "I'm not angry or anything, how could I be? It was never your fault, nor mine." He paused before letting out a small sigh, she could hear all the pain, the sadness in his voice, "I'm sorry... I'm sorry you've had to carry this burden all alone all this time…"
Her whole body was shaking. His voice was shaking, as if he were holding back his own tears. She was fighting inside. She was fighting herself not to break down. But her traitorous body still betrayed her, and she couldn't even control her tears, which had started to flow uncontrollably.
But his words. His words resonated not only in her heart but in her entire soul. She didn't know how much she needed to hear those words from him until now.
"We'll find a way, and everything will go back to normal, it will be even better, I promise."
After all these years, these centuries of living with the weight of guilt, the weight of regret, the feeling that she'd never be able to meet her soul mates... she felt all this weight recede, making way for a quietude and lightness like she'd never known before.
An eternity of torment, torture, and pain was finally over.
It was as if she'd been deprived of oxygen all her life, until now, as if her breathing had been cut off, and now she was finally getting it back.
And even though she was currently crying her heart out in Jin's arms, she could also feel Taehyung's warm, reassuring hand on her back, Jimin's, Jungkook's, and Yoongi's presence in the room, Namjoon's and Hoseok's, even if they weren't in the same room with them.
Her cries were no longer cries of sadness. There was only relief, and it was becoming more of an evacuation from all that time of pain and isolation.
All those smells, all that warmth that invaded her body at that moment, brought her calm and relief she'd never be able to explain, not even in a day, a year, ten years, or even a hundred years.
The reunion with Jin that day, feeling him against her again, as well as having the presence of her soul mates around them, those who were destined for her. After all this time where her heart and soul had been crying out for help, she had finally been heard.
The darkness was finally disappearing, as the clouds and obscurity finally allowed the sun a chance to shine.
And despite her tears, she couldn't help smiling, because at last, she knew that happiness really was within her grasp.
“If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.”

Chapter 4 // Chapter 6
☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
Wooyoung and you were out of breath when you fell on the floor of the dance studio, lying next to him. You turned to each other with mutual grins.
“If we don't get the best grade with this,” you muttered after a few seconds.
"You're taking the words out of my mouth!"
You laughed and straightened up to clap your hands. Wooyoung then turned around, his eyes shining.
“Don't you agree with us Sannie? What did you think?”
It was with enthusiasm that Wooyoung just addressed his boyfriend and alpha, Choi San, student in the same school as both of you, but in second year. The omega thought of calling his boyfriend to have an external opinion on the choreography they had spent the week preparing. The choice of music helped a lot to make their imaginations work, the steps, and the combinations of these had naturally come to both of you.
The deadline was approaching and even if neither you nor he was stressed by the time, you still felt some form of anxiety over the level of performance and the quality of your choreography.
You were lucky (or unlucky, depending on the perspective) to get a preview of what Jimin, Jungkook, and Hoseok were up to, and you couldn't describe how you felt because these three idiots were the most talented and dammit attractive dancers you knew.
You, too, turned to San, more nervous than your friend. It was the first time you met him in person. As you imagined, he was very impressive, very tall, and very charming.
With his arms crossed against his chest, he nodded, a smile appearing on the corner of his lips.
“Some of my graduating class and even senior year would be unable to do better! There is a very good chemistry between the two of you. You make a very good duo.”
You sighed with relief as Wooyoung jumped into his companion's arms.
Yes, choosing Finesse by Bruno Mars and Cardi B had been a very good idea.
“You know that in my eyes you will always be the best dancer in this school,” added San, hugging Wooyoung, “ah, no offense little y/n!”
“Don't worry,” you answered, laughing and waving your hand, “I'm far from being equal to anyone here in terms of talent,” you continued directly, seeing that your friend was going to intervene with your remark, but you didn’t let him the chance, “And by the way, I'm the same size as Wooyoung, I'm not small!”
You rolled your eyes at their laughs and grabbed your cell phone before lying on the floor again. You got a message from Jimin. He was in another room, busy rehearsing his solo choreography, and wanted to know when you'd be finished rehearsing to join you. Now that you think about it, it's probably been ages since you two spent time together like you used to when you were still in high school.
“By the way Noona,” Wooyoung appeared above you, while you were answering your best friend's message, “have you made any progress on your choreography? Are you still sure of your choice?”
“Hm? I think you just want to know if I choose the music you suggested, am I right?” you asked, arching an eyebrow and chuckling when you saw his innocent expression, “yeah Wooyoung, I chose Sweet but Psycho, I even finished the choreography, I just need to rework it a little and adjust a few things!”
“Really? I'll be curious to see it, can you show it to us?”
You turned to San, your cheeks flushed.
“Mingi is waiting for us Sannie! He is downstairs!” Wooyoung had just received a message, and was already grabbing his stuff, winking at you as you silently thanked him, “Next time!” He turned to you, “By the way Noona, we can give you a ride if you want!”
“Jimin is upstairs, we're planning to go home together, but thanks for offering!”
“Ah, Park Jimin, another talented monster,” San commented with a nod.
You nodded with a groan and straightened up. You accepted the hand of the alpha, “Ah, thank you. It was a pleasure to meet you, San!”
“The pleasure is mutual little y/n,” he winked at you when he saw a pout appear on your face, “Wooyoung will give you my phone number, if you need anything don't hesitate.”
“I'll give it to you by text, be safe, Cardi B!”
You nodded, a little surprised, but smiled at Wooyoung's nickname as you watched them leave, hand in hand. You were happy to meet one of Wooyoung's partners finally. San was a very respectful and pleasant person. You quickly felt comfortable in his presence.
You heard voices outside the dance studio but didn't really pay attention to them, at this time of the day, most of the rooms were still occupied by students. What you didn't know though, was that those voices belonged to Jimin and Wooyoung, who had crossed paths. Jimin greeted the omega, not forgetting to introduce himself to his boyfriend. As usual, Jimin had worn a friendly smile, a cheerful and pleasant tone, as everyone knew him.
However, when San and Wooyoung left him alone in the corridor, his smile disappeared, replaced by a neutral face. He walked into the dance hall, finding you with your back facing him.
"Noona, it's me."
You gasped as you heard the voice of your best friend, who just entered the room. You turned to him, your bag in hand, surprised he came so quickly.
You frowned slightly. Jimin seemed... absent and frustrated. Had something gone wrong during his rehearsal?
“You’re okay?” you asked as you walked towards him, "Did something happen?”
“Ah! Hm... no, not at all! I just ran into Wooyoung and... Choi San? It just surprised me!”
He rubbed the back of his head, a tight smile on his face. You tilted your head to the side, confused by his reaction.
“San is one of Wooyoung's alpha’s,” you explained as you turned on your heels to get your jacket, “I thought I told you he was in a pack with seven other people.”
Jimin nodded silently, which surprised you. Without a word, he walked over to you, and before you could open your mouth, you felt your friend's arms around your waist, clinging to you as he nuzzled his face into your neck.
“J-Jimin you…”
You heard him mutter a few words that you didn't really understand. It felt like an eternity passed since your last embrace. It was true that you had been a little physically distant since you discovered you were an omega. You tried to avoid physical contact as subtly as possible, although you didn't always succeed.
When you live with seven people with more than half of them have physical touch as a love language, it’s hard to always find a good excuse to avoid it.
You suffered a lot because just like them, you had always liked these physical marks of affection they had towards you, and inversely, you liked to show them your affection towards them in this way.
As always, your whole being was surrounded by that soft, protective warmth you only felt when they were the origin of it. This feeling was even more powerful when it came to Jimin, your best friend, the most important and precious person in your life.
You couldn't resist wrapping your arms around Jimin's chest, holding him close, and resting your head against his shoulder.
You couldn't fight against it. This was where you felt the safest in the world. Were you felt at your place. In your best friend's arms.
How you missed those moments.
“Hey… Are you sure you're all right, Jimin?”
“You have his smell, I don't like it.”
You straightened your head slightly, surprised by these words. What was he talking about?
“Who…”
“Choi San... I saw you when you took his hand to get up… and his wink…” he paused for a moment before sighing and looking into your eyes, “and… I noticed you were distant recently… you’ll not leaving us, aren’t you? You’ll not leave with them...?”
You had expected everything but this. Jimin always had a jealous and possessive side, he was the one who needed to give and receive affection the most. All this showed a great lack of self-confidence in the young man.
When you were still at school, you heard that his parents had placed him, like you, in a public school reserved for alpha males. Unfortunately, he didn't fit the physical criteria for alphas his age. When most alpha teenagers were already tall and voice-muted, Jimin was short and puffy-faced. His voice hadn't really changed until he was seventeen. Of course, different as he was, although it was not his fault, he was bullied at school.
Like you, dancing had been a refuge that had allowed him to keep his head above water.
This episode of his life had left indelible marks on him. Especially since he had not really been able to benefit from psychological support from his family. His parents thought the harassment was nothing more than teenage squabbling.
They did not approve of his decision to join this dance school. Jimin had to be patient and persuasive to get their permission, against their will. They proclaimed that he would eventually realize that he had no future in this world and that he would come back to the right path or God knows what other nonsense they had come up with, he had stopped listening to them after a while anyway.
You knew the insecurities and lack of trust your best friend had in him. He always had this constant fear of losing and being abandoned by the people he loved.
He and you were the same. You had similar schooling, your families came from the same rich environment, and had the same mentality. You had the same wounds, some of which were still open.
So unsurprisingly, the second you heard his words, the surprise passed, and your gaze softened. You put your two hands on Jimin's cheeks and started caressing them.
“Sorry,” he murmured with a sad pout, “I’m sorry I don't know why I…”
“Don't apologize,” you answered with a little smile, “it's all right…”
“No it’s not.., you don't understand,” he looked away, biting his lip nervously, “it's not all right at all… smelling his scent on you makes me... even though he's an alpha already bound,” he breathed deeply, as if he was trying to control himself, “it's like he's going to take you away from me.”
“Never.” You spoke softly as your thumb caresses his cheeks, “ Listen Jimin, nothing and no one can ever take me away from you,” you whispered, “and if... if his smell bothers you so much, replace it with your own.”
He looked up at you, his lips parted. You couldn’t resist looking down on them, biting yours nervously. Slowly, your eyes moved up to his eyes, your hands still on his soft cheeks. You were so close to him, you could feel his breath gently caressing your lips, making you shiver.
You felt him leaning closer to you, his chest now touching yours. Your lips were close, very close.
No… No, you couldn’t do that to him, nor to your friends, his partners.
You stepped back slightly. You took a long breath and ran a hand through your hair. What were you doing? And what were those words you told him?
It was that warmth again, that smell. Jimin's smell. There was this desire, this desire for him. You couldn’t control yourself. And it wasn't your hormones and your omega side this time, no. Maybe it was the distance you had put between you that amplified and rekindled the feelings you had once repressed when you were still a teenager. Your friendship has always been the most important, more than your feelings.
What were you thinking? Jimin was just your friend, your best friend. And already bonded with other people.
“Y/n you…”
“Ah, excuse me, I’m just saying nonsense,” you lied and chuckled slightly, shaking your head, “this is ridiculous, isn't it? We'd better go, Jin and Hobi must be waiting for you!”
“Don't say that,” he frowned, “this is not ridiculous, and… they're waiting for us. You and me.”
“Yeah, that's what I was saying, let's go!”
°°°
A pout appeared on your face when you heard Wooyoung’s laugh through your phone. you could have sworn you heard another one. Probably Yeosang’s, Wooyoung omega’s partner. He quickly introduced him to you when you called him twenty minutes ago.
After your… moment with Jimin, you both joined Hoseok and Jin who were waiting in their car to come home. You didn’t feel any weird mood between Jimin and you, for your greater relief. But you couldn’t forget what happened.
“I don’t see what’s funny guys!” you told them in an annoyed tone, “What would have happened if I hadn’t stepped back?”
“A Kiss? A long and passionate kiss because you both want it since you know each other. A kiss turning into a hot make-out session and even maybe…” Wooyoung makes a pause, before whispering, “A torrid and desperate fuck. Oh, that made me think that I always wanted to do it in a risky place…”
You sighed loudly not listening to your friend anymore who was rambling. Even if the simple idea of you and Jimin doing any sexual things in a place like a dance studio, when you can get caught at any moment…
You squeeze your thighs together and shook your head, your face was as red as a tomato.
“I… I can’t Woo’!”
“And why? You like him, aren’t you? More than a friend I mean.”
You opened your mouth and then closed it. You passed your hand through your hair and stood up to sit on the ground, your back against your bed and your phone on your knees.
“First he’s my best friend.” You began, hearing both omegas sighing, but you ignored them. “Second, he’s taken. Taken with people who are very close friends… And third, I’m an omega and they don’t know anything about that, things could change between us and I don’t want it…”
“Okay…First, you didn’t answer directly to my question but… I think this is the best one I could have.” Wooyoung smirked. “Second, I don’t see where’s the problem. You also have a crush on them, aren’t you?”
You frowned and stayed silent. You couldn’t deny that you liked every one of them. Really. They were all kind, and funny, you’ve never felt as safe as you do with them. And they were all hot as hell.
“Listen, I wanted to tell you this sooner,” Wooyoung began with a serious and soft voice, “but all the symptoms you describe when you’re with them, it’s not only your omega’s genes.”
“Well, actually it is, a little,” Yeosang added, “but it only works if you are interested in the alphas. Only if you want them sentimentally, and, or physically, both works.”
“When you met San this afternoon, an alpha, when he took your hand, did you feel something?”
“You mean if I had this heat in my body? This feeling of safety, these butterflies in my stomach? If I wanted to kiss him and spend my life in his arms? Of course not! I only have this with… with Jimin and… and with them… Holy shit.”
You heard two laughs and grabbed a pillow to hide your face in. You let yourself fall to the floor with a loud and desperate whimper.
Wooyoung didn’t tell you that he asked his boyfriend to come and see them during their dance practice for this specific purpose. He wanted to let you experience the difference between the feeling of being with someone you’re attracted to, and someone you’re not attracted to. Practice always was more effective than theory.
“Listen, sweetie,” you heard the deep and soft voice of Yeosang after a few seconds, “Just trust your heart. We can’t know how hard it could be for you, that’s true. But if you really love them, if you don’t want to lose them, you need to be honest.”
“And if they don’t accept you as an omega, fuck them! You’ll come live with us! Yunho hyung will like you for sure!”
“I don’t think she needs to think about that, Love. Let’s stay positive, should we?” Yeosang sighs, making you chuckle.
But Yeosang was right. And that’s why you felt so guilty. You knew you needed to be honest with the boys. Plus, with your avoidant behavior towards them, Jimin thought you planned to leave them, which was the last fucking thing you wanted.
Well, for your feelings, everything was confusing until now… You began to understand, thanks to Wooyoung and Yeosang. But the omega part was… still so fucking complicated. Every time you thought about a way to tell, at least, just one of them, you saw your mother’s face again when she knew the truth. You could hear the disgust in her voice again. The fear of experiencing it again paralyzed you to do anything with them.
You heard your stomach growling and you sighed. A bowl of ramyeon first. Yeah, you needed to eat.
°°°
And third, I’m an omega and they don’t know anything about that, things could change between us and I don’t want it.
Jungkook froze in front of your bedroom, his fist still on the door, ready to knock. He just wanted to show you something on his phone when he heard the end of your sentence.
He blinked quickly, and lean his head, confused.
“Noona… is an omega…?”
“What… did you say, Jungkook?”
He gasped when he heard Yoongi’s voice behind him. Seeing the confused look on his younger’s face, Yoongi realized that he, too, had just learned this information.
“Wait hyung, maybe I misunderstood…” Jungkook whispered, walking to him, “But I think I heard…”
“I think we need an emergency pack meeting, Bunny, and now.”
"We don’t get a say on how it ends, we never have. But we can control how we live."

Chapter 2 // Chapter 4
☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
“I did it! I beat Ganon! Did you see, Jimin ?”
Jungkook put down his controller next to him on the couch, raising his arms with a big smile. Beside him, Jimin didn't seem to pay attention to him. His eyes focused on his cell phone.
Jungkook frowned, and turned to Taehyung, sitting on his right.
"Taehyung, Taehyung! Look!!!"
But he noticed that Taehyung also seemed lost in thought and was not paying any attention to him.
Jungkook puffed out his cheeks, a pout on his face.
"Hyungs! What's going on?”
“Do you know where Yoongi is? "
Taehyung's question surprised Jungkook. He arched an eyebrow and thought for a few seconds.
He knew that Namjoon and Hoseok had gone to the public library for some research, but he couldn't remember which. Jin had gone to the grocery store.
And Yoongi... well, he didn't remember seeing him or even remembering him leaving the apartment.
"He's been missing for a while, he doesn't answer when I try to call him..." Jimin sighed as he threw his phone down next to him.
They remained silent for a few seconds, while the game on the television continued to play its cinematic.
Jungkook turned his head and noticed that the window was slightly open. He pointed at it with his chin to his partners.
The three demons then glanced at each other. They figured it out. They knew where Yoongi had gone.
"You think he went..." began Jungkook.
"I wouldn't even be surprised, he was very quiet yesterday after Namjoon’s explanations." Jimin continued.
And they all knew that at those times, it meant that Yoongi had something on his mind. And when he did, he became the most stubborn person alive. Nothing and no one could make him change his mind.
"That guy... Ah, when he gets home, he'll hear me." Taehyung sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
Jungkook jumped to his feet.
"Are you going to wait quietly for him to come back?" He asked, crossing his arms before straightening up from the couch. "Because I'm not. We've been waiting for this moment for way too long."
°°°
Yoongi was… well she couldn’t describe him. His voice was sweet, his little vibrato always made her body shiver a little. Besides, he was so kind, so gentle, she had never seen so much tenderness in a gaze that was destined to her.
Well, of course, there was Jin. But that was so, so long ago.
She bit her lower lip nervously. Thinking about him made her heart ache. She was close to him like she never was since the two of them were separated, yet so far at the same time. She still hadn't thought about how she would manage it. She'd never figured out how to get his memory back, and she’d never found him at all to try anything though.
At first, she had planned to spend the afternoon with her books, researching curses, spells, or some kind of memory-related magic. She wanted to have some sort of plan before she tried any approach with her soulmates.
But it seems that one of them decided otherwise.
Yoongi never took his eyes off her. She seemed to be lost in her thoughts for some reason, probably his visit disturbed her.
He couldn't read her mind, she was probably powerful enough to block her mind to telepaths, as he and his demon boyfriends were. His admiration for her only grew stronger and stronger.
He wanted to know what was happening in her head, what seemed to be troubling her.
From the moment he saw her through her shop window in his cat form, busy watering her plants when he saw the lines on her face when he realized he was standing in front of his last soulmate, the world stopped in front of him for a moment.
Just as he felt when he met Namjoon, Jin, Hoseok, Jungkook, Jimin, and Taehyung. That feeling of being face to face with someone he'd known all his life, even though he'd never spoken to them, someone who completed him, who finally made him feel whole and fulfilled.
A soul mate, pure and simple.
She felt the same way. Like the day before with Namjoon, and when she was with Jin before they separated. However, she wasn't used to experiencing... so many positive feelings and emotions like that.
She'd also thought that Namjoon would never talk about her or want to see her again.
Apparently, she was wrong.
She fidgeted nervously with her fingers, keeping a certain distance between them. She wanted to ask Yoongi where the others lived, to meet them, and finally see Jin again after all these years.
But the problem was that Jin didn't remember her. And when Namjoon, Yoongi, and the others hear about what happened, they probably wouldn't want anything more to do with her. And that was what she was afraid of.
The pain of losing a soul mate is a sharp pain, like having her heart ripped out, without any anesthetic, raw.
She met people who had been rejected by their soulmates, or who had experienced the death of their soulmates. They were a shadow of their former selves, and remained so for the rest of their lives, until their last breath. Most of the time, they ended up taking their own lives, the latter being a gentler and more bearable solution than living without one or both halves.
She'd been through it once, with Seokjin. If she hadn't been immortal, she wouldn't have survived it.
"I don't know what's been going through your head, or what you've been going through all these years alone," Yoongi began, taking a step towards her, "but it's all over now. I mean, you're not alone anymore, not now that we've found you. You should have seen Namjoon when he came home yesterday, I haven't seen him this excited since we met Jungkook decades ago." He let out a chuckle.
She looked up at him, he was close to her, very close.
If he knew, he wouldn't say that. Even though she couldn't deny that those words warmed her whole being without really controlling it. So, Namjoon was happy to meet her? Were they all?
"You really thought Namjoon wouldn't tell us about you and we wouldn't want you?" He asked, tilting his head to one side.
"Honestly, yes." she admitted with a shrug, smiling shyly, "I'm... old, very old, I spent several centuries alone, never finding my soulmates so... I always told myself that they weren't looking for me, or simply didn't want me."
And the only one I ever knew, I lost him, she thought.
"Oh, sweetheart," he murmured, his deep, soft voice making her shiver, "I'm sorry it took me so long to find you, we all are, believe me."
He raised his hand, without hesitation, to place it gently on her cheek. Normally, she wasn’t the most comfortable with physical touch, but strangely, she hadn't flinched, she hadn't moved. The warmth of Yoongi's hand against her skin felt good and soothing in a way she couldn't describe a comfort she hadn't felt... for ages.
She surprised herself leaning slightly against it, even closing her eyes when he started to rub softly her cheek with his thumb.
She opened her lips to reply but heard something behind Yoongi that made her take a step back. She heard the bell of her shop signifying that someone was entering.
"I knew it!" she heard a deep voice approach them, "I knew you wouldn't listen to Namjoon hyung!"
She tilted her head as Yoongi turned his, not disturbed by the interruption. She was surprised to find herself facing three new people. She didn't need to ask who they were, nor she didn't need to ask Yoongi who these three beautiful and handsome men standing in front of her were.
When her eyes met those of the smallest of the three, while the other two were talking to Yoongi, she didn't even know about what because she wasn't paying any attention. Her gaze was completely absorbed by this pink-haired person standing a few meters away from her. She was feeling for the second time today what she had felt earlier with Yoongi.
These three people were part of their bond. They were their soulmates too.
One of the other two noticed the smaller boy's attitude and turned toward him.
"Jimin, are you..." he began, turning his head to follow his gaze, "Okay..."
His voice trailed off when he saw her.
She didn't know what to say or do, she could feel four pairs of eyes on her now.
She noticed a smile tugging at the corner of Yoongi's lips and she bites her own nervously.
He knew that the maknaes would notice his absence, and would quickly realize where he was and, most importantly, that they would come to her.
"Are you..." the smaller one, Jimin, whispered in a trembling voice, taking a step towards her.
"Yes... Yes, I am." she replied, looking away, "It's a pleasure to meet y-ah...!"
She hadn't had time to finish her sentence when she felt a pair of arms around her waist and a body pressing against hers. She looked down, surprised to see a pink ball, slightly trembling.
"We've been waiting for you for so long..." he murmured shakily.
She felt her head spin slightly under all these new sensations, not so new, but ones she hadn't felt for ages. It was as if she was rediscovering them.
She didn't know how to react and didn't have time to think about it when she felt two new pairs of arms around her waist.
"Jimin, don't monopolize her yet!" a young man with blue hair sulked, "Ah, I can't tell you how happy I am to finally meet you... Can I call you Noona?"
She didn't know what to say and didn't have time to think about it either.
"Noona," the tallest of the three murmured as he hugged her a little tighter, "I can't believe I can finally hold you... You’re real...!"
She was surprised to see Jimin sobbing quietly in her arms. She looked up, utterly confused, and searched for Yoongi, who was standing not far from her, his hand resting on Jimin's back, stroking him affectionately as he looked at her. He gave her a gentle smile and shrugged.
"They are our maknaes, Jimin," he pointed to the pink-haired one, "Taehyung," he pointed to the blue-haired one, "and Jugkook, the youngest." He finished by pointing to the last one, who was looking at her with shining eyes.
“Noona, you’re so gorgeous,” Jungkook said, making her blush furiously.
“Kook’… you're making her uncomfortable," Yoongi grumbled as he brought his hand up to stroke Jimin's hair.
"I'm not... thank you..." she smiled as she saw Jungkook's face light up, then looked down at Jimin, "Is he all right?" she asked, worried to see him in such a state.
"Don't worry about him," Taehyung caught her eye and gave her a big smile, "he's very sensitive and just happy to finally find you."
"And we've been waiting for you... "Jungkook continued before letting out a shy little laugh, "Ah, you must have heard it lots of times since yesterday but... It's true... we've been looking for you for years, without success..."
"We've all always had that hole in our hearts..." Jimin spoke again, raising his head, his eyes bright and slightly red, "It was painful sometimes when all that was missing for us was you, I don't even want to imagine how you must have felt without any of us..."
She didn't even notice that tears had started to fall as they spoke. She wasn't the kind of person who cried easily, far from it. But in less than two days, this was already the second time it had happened.
She didn't know why she was so moved by their words, perhaps because they were the people she'd been looking for all her long life, never finding, thinking they didn't want her, which turned out to be wrong.
She could feel the deep empathy in their words because they'd been through the same thing as her - less so because they were all together - she felt understood by the people who were meant for her, and that feeling was indescribable.
Noticing her tears, the three maknaes backed away slightly but stayed close to her.
"Noona I... we're sorry if we said something hurtful..." murmured Jimin nervously.
"No, I'm the one who's sorry," she replied, shaking her head, "I'm just... I don't know, it all seems so unrealistic..."
And it still was. Knowing that she found her soulmates, that Jin was only a few miles away... After all those years of loneliness, of feeling guilty, of secretly envying the people who crossed her path, happy with their soul mates...
She thought back to Minji's words, yesterday’s evening in their apartment...
« You deserve it more than anyone else. You spent your whole life helping anyone who asks for help, sacrificing your life more than once - literally - for the helping and saving. You deserve to be happy, with those who are destined for you. »
The thought of those words made her tears double. Because after all these years, centuries even, in darkness, the light was finally coming to her, the hope of a more bearable and less lonely eternity was growing inside her.
“Hey, sweetheart, please don’t cry,” Yoongi’s sweet voice brought her out of her thoughts, “You’re prettier when you smile.”
She blinked several times and looked at each of the people around her.
There they were, her soul mates.
“Ah, I think Namjoon hyung and Hoseok hyung are back home," suddenly muttered Taehyung, who had his phone in his hand, "They want to know where we are..."
"I think we're in a bit of a mess..." chuckled Jungkook, resting his cheek against her shoulder. "Oh, you don't know Hobi hyung yet!"
"Same for Jin, I think we're going to have a bad time when we get home... they're going to be even more jealous!" added Jimin with a small smile.
Her eyes had widened when he'd mentioned Jin's name. He was with them. There was no doubt about it now. The confirmation twisted her stomach slightly with anticipation and excitement.
Jin was alive. He was in the same town as her after... over five hundred years apart. She didn't know how to deal with it all, again, it all seemed so unrealistic. She felt like she was in a dream, that she'd wake up sooner or later, and that everything she was experiencing now was an illusion.
If this was indeed a dream, she hoped she'd never wake up.
"I have an idea! Why don't you come with us?"
She lowered her head at Jimin's question. This was something she hadn't expected.
"So you can meet them too and see Namjoon again! Good idea, Minnie!" Taehyung came and hugged his partner, kissing his cheek affectionately.
Jimin giggled in Taehyung's arms, making her smile. But the idea of finding herself in the same room as not just one, but all her soul mates. Seeing Jin again, without the certainty that he'd regained his memory... If they found out the truth, what had happened, she'd lose them for sure.
Selfishly, she didn't want that to happen. She wanted to see Jin again, of course. It was all she could think about, constantly, ever since they both split up. But the risk was too big now. She wanted to come to him with a plan, a way of getting his memory back if he hadn't. She owed him that.
"I know we're all more than happy to find her finally," Yoongi began, "but our beautiful soulmate can't just walk away from her business, can she?"
"But Yoongi hyung... I don't want to leave her..." pouted Jungkook, rubbing his cheek against her shoulder.
"I know Kookie, me neither," Yoongi sighed softly, understanding with Jungkook because he too didn't want to part with her, "but I think she needs some time to herself, to get over her emotions, am I right?"
He looked at her, his lips stretching slightly into a thin smile. She could see in his eyes that he wasn't reproaching her and that he was also prepared to stay if she asked him to. Every one of them was ready to go and get the moon for her if she asked them to.
"I understand... it must have been a lot of emotions for you..." Taehyung sighed sadly as he pulled away from Jimin, "So can we give you our phone number? And we'll give you our address too!"
"Good idea!" Jimin exclaimed and snapped his fingers to summon a piece of paper and a pen, " So you can come and see us whenever you like! Usually, there's always someone at home, but if there isn't, we'll give you the code, and you can just make yourself at home and wait for us!"
"Deal," she replied as Jimin wrote their numbers and addresses on the sheet of paper, "and you, feel free to come here, whenever you like, my apartment's upstairs, but I suppose you already know that..."
"What was I saying, she's extremely intelligent, our soulmate, as well as being beautiful," Yoongi smirked, making her blush.
"Aaah, I don't want to leave you, Noona..." Jungkook whined, grabbing her arm, "You smell so good too..."
YoShe u held back a smile, feeling a slight pinch in her heart.
She didn't want them to leave either.

“You did what ?!”
Sitting on the sofa, Yoongi chuckled as the three maknae shrugged their shoulders at Hoseok, Seokjin, and Namjoon. Namjoon had his arms crossed against his chest, his eyebrows furrowed, while his two companions beside him looked desperate but amused at the same time.
"You're incapable of listening to a tiny indication, are you..." Namjoon blurted out accusingly, "I hope you haven't scared her..."
"Knowing these three," began Hoseok, addressing the maknae, "they would have been able to jump on her..."
Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook glanced at each other. Without needing to reply, Jin's eyes widened.
"You jumped on her..." It wasn't a question, but a statement.
"I... I wouldn't go to the extreme of using the word jump Jin hyung..." defended Jungkook with a pout, "and then... it was Jimin who clung to her first and cried like a baby !"
The said Jimin turned to his boyfriend, outraged and betrayed.
"At least I didn't make her feel uncomfortable by showering her with compliments! "Oh noona, you're so beautiful, you're so intelligent noona!" cried Jimin, pointing his finger at Jungkook, who was frowning, and Yoongi, who wasn't paying any attention to the conversation.
Hoseok and Jin couldn't help laughing as they watched their younger partners bickering, while Namjoon rolled his eyes and ran a hand through his hair. He should have known that his partners wouldn't listen to him and would go and find her the second his back was turned. He wasn't that angry with them, he understood them. From the second they'd said goodbye the day before, all he could think about was seeing her again. Yoongi was the most stubborn and obstinate of them all, and if the maknaes were by nature very impatient, he was even more so.
He couldn't blame them, she was their soul mate just as she was his. And even if a reason they didn't know existed had darkened her heart and saddened her soul, she could not want to have something to do with them. She just couldn't.
His four companions had only listened to their hearts.
"Did it at least go well?" finally asked Hoseok, who had settled on the floor, facing the maknaes, "how is she?"
"She's incredible hyung!" exclaimed Taehyung, "She's beautiful and her voice is so sweet..."
"Aaah, I miss her," Jimin added as he dropped onto Taehyung, "we shouldn't have left..."
Hoseok chuckled and turned to Jin.
"That means we're the last ones who didn't meet her, ah, that's not fair... Jin, are you all right?"
They all turned to the older man who had sat on the edge of the large sofa. He was staring into space, his face disfigured by pain.
Yoongi was the first to react and got up to approach his elder.
"Hyung, is it the same as yesterday?"
Jin took his head in his hands, nodding. He didn't understand why these violent migraines were suddenly coming to him, and more importantly, why he was now having these flashes and memories that weren't his own.
Or were they? He had no memory of living in a human village with a hill and a big oak tree. And who was this person he was with? He couldn't see their face correctly, it was blurred, like everything that had happened since yesterday.
"What's wrong with him, Yoongi?" asked Namjoon, concerned.
"He's never been like this..." Jungkook sat down next to him, also worried.
Yoongi told them about yesterday's episode in the kitchen, which made Jin wince, not wanting to bother them with it.
"It's nothing," Jin muttered after a few seconds massaging his temples, "It's just tiredness I guess."
He wouldn't talk about the memories flooding his mind. He didn't want to worry them anymore. He'd look for the answers himself.
"Hyung you've been very tired before, you've never had this kind of response..." replied Jimin who had gone into the kitchen to get him a glass of water.
"He's right, maybe it's a problem with your powers? Or... argh, I don't know." Taehyung grumbled in frustration.
"It'll be fine," Jin reassured him with a small smile, "I'll get some rest, and everything will be better tomorrow. But I will remember that you met our soulmate and Hobi and I are the only ones who don't know her."
He chuckled when he saw the innocent looks on the maknae’s faces and ruffled Yoongi's hair to reassure him.
"If it happens again, you won't be able to escape," Yoongi replied simply, rising to his feet.
He said nothing, but when his gaze met Namjoon's, the two demons understood each other. Jin's condition coincided strangely with the meeting of their last soulmate.
Pure coïncidence? Or was there a link between her and Jin's condition?
°°°
Every day there was an outdoor market in Seoul. She used to go there regularly to find various types of plants for her potions, spells, and other magical preparations. But also, fruit and vegetables for her personal use.
This time, Handong has decided to come with her. She closed her shop for the morning and set off in the early hours.
She looked up at the sky and spotted the moon, gradually disappearing to make way for the sun. The full moon was for tonight.
She knew that the moon was a very powerful force for witches. It was also that moment when she recharged her crystals and prepared her moon water for the month.
But above all, the full moon influenced her powers. It was the best time to cast powerful spells and make sure they worked. It was therefore the perfect opportunity to find any spell that would help Jin recover his memory.
The day before, after Yoongi, Jungkook, Taehyung, and Jimin had left, and after spending a good hour recovering from her emotions, she went back to combing through every magic book and grimoire she owned, whether in the bookshop or her personal library.
She hadn't found anything very conclusive. All the chapters on memory magic had one thing in common: the spells, their effects, and their duration always depended on who was casting them and who was being affected by them.
The spell cast on Jin could have disappeared, just as it could still be present. She could only know this by seeing him and talking to him. But even that was a tricky thing to do.
"Is everything all right, sweetie?" Handong asked in a soft voice, after noticing that she’d been quiet for a while now.
"Hm?" she turned her head towards her, before smiling and nodding, "Yes, of course! sorry I... I was thinking about my research last night."
"Don't apologize," Handong smiled at her, "It's perfectly understandable. Don't hesitate if you need advice, I'm not a specialist, but I'll gladly give you my opinion."
She nodded again and explained what she’d found. Her different ideas, but they all came down to a single point. She had to see Jin to find out about his condition and memory. And that was where she was stuck.
During her explanations and conversation, she had arrived at the market, and without stopping to talk, she looked at the different stalls, buying some fruit and vegetables from old ladies.
In the distance, she notices a stall selling papaya. She hadn't seen or eaten papaya for a long time. It was also Jin's favorite fruit.
Handong was busy with a merchant, so she waved back and headed towards the stall. She greeted the old woman manning the stall and looked carefully at the fruit on display.
As she reached out to take one, she saw an arm in her field of vision landing on the same papaya as her. Surprised, she turned her head mechanically to see who it was, before freezing, her eyes wide.
No, it couldn't be true.
She had to be hallucinating, it couldn't... be him.
And yet she could recognize that face, those features above all others.
Jin.
Kim Seokjin was standing in front of her.
°°°
"By the way hyung, why were you and Joonie at the library yesterday?"
Jimin was currently sitting on a stool, watching Hoseok who was busy preparing lunch while Jin was away.
"Namjoon wanted to research our soulmate," he explained as he chopped some onions, "At first I didn't understand why honestly, but you know, over time, you and I know very well that Namjoon's instincts are never wrong."
"Does that mean you've found something?" exclaimed Jimin, suddenly straightening up.
Hoseok nodded, now working on dicing the vegetables. What they had found in the library... he could still hardly believe it.
Should he tell Jimin? Or should he wait until they are all together to share the results of their research?
He didn't have time to think about it any longer. He heard a loud knock, startling Jimin. It wasn't long before Yoongi and Jungkook emerged from their room, also startled.
"What's going on here?" Asked the older one, "I don't suppose we were expecting company?"
"Maybe it's Jin who's back and his arms are too full to open the door!" Jungkook added, tilting his head to one side. I'll get the door!"
He trotted to the door, dressed in a long sweatshirt belonging to Namjoon, who was still asleep in the room, just like Taehyung.
He opened the door with a big smile on his face.
"Hi! What took you so long Jin hyun..."
He didn't finish his sentence. His voice faded as he saw what was standing in front of him. At his silence, Yoongi and Jimin joined him, themselves freezing in front of what was in front of them.
Y/n was standing in front of them, totally panicked, out of breath, and sweating.
But she wasn’t alone.
"Help me... please..." she begged, her voice breaking. They could see she was holding back tears.
She was supporting Jin, his arm wrapped around her shoulders. A completely unconscious Jin.
