“Welcome to Sweet Temptations.” He greeted dryly withoutlooking up from the counter. Surely, Ashton was not a cheerful person but he was alittle grumpy as he could still the aftermath of previous night. The greetingwas not really necessary for him but he promised Abby he would treat thecustomers the same way as she treated her them the moment they walked in thebakeshop. So far, he was only doing half the job as he lacked enthusiasm.
Ashton almost jumped when someone slammed their hand on thepage of the magazine Ashton was reading. Actually, he was not reading it, hewas just simply staring at it while he wondered when will the Advil would takeeffect. “You know, you are doing a shitty job being Abby‘s bitch. I’m prettysure you should have grinned like an idiot when a customer walks in.” The owner of thehand spoke to him.
The hand apparently belonged to Ariana Meyer. Hepuffed before he gingerly removed her fingers one by one from the glossy paperof the magazine until her hand was completely off so he could go back fromstaring at the magazine. “I’m not her bitch.” Ariana pulled herself up so she couldsit on the counter and as well the magazine he was staring. Ashton had to stepback to prevent his face from getting on her ass. “I’m pretty sure you areonly allowed to sit on a chair on this place.
It was Ari’s time to huff. “You are so whipped.” She said, shaking her head in disbelief.
“Whipped?” He asked in pretense that he didn’t know what shewas talking about.
Ariana shifted so she could face the son of Dionysus. “Abby. Is already married and you are still wrapped around her fingers. You still doher bidding. You did not even become her boyfriend. So pathetic.”
The pain in his head seemed to stir a little bit. “That’snot fucking true, Meyer. I’m just helping her…” he stopped mid-sentence as hedecided not to talk about why he was being helpful especially it involves hisbrother and marriage life with Abby, the girl he used to love. “Why am I evenexplaining shit to you? Can you be a bitch somewhere?” Ariana just laughed athis remark. Ashton watched in confusion as she locked the store and switchedthe sign to ‘close’. “What the hell…?” Ariana just dragged him to the kitchen.
“Let me make you a tea that cures hangover. I know Abby hasit somewhere.” She said before she starts rummaging one of the cupboards.
He raised an eyebrow. “You sure you know how to work on thekettle.”
Ariana took the roller, the first thing she saw near Ashton, then used it to hitting his shoulder. “Would you shut up?” Rubbing his shoulder, he cursedout loud and did what he was told to do so, he shut up. Ashton did not feel likegetting into a banter which usually where his conversations with Ariana go. “So,are you really in love with Abby?” She ended the fallen silence after she putthe kettle on the stove.
“Please,” he said while rolling his eyes, “I’ve move on.”
A flicker of interest grew in her eyes. “Are you saying youwere really in love with her?” He just made a face at her enthusiasm.
Ashton rolled his eyes again and refused to answer herquestion. Anyway, it was pointless answering her since it was all in the past.He moved on. It took time to forget his feeling for her but he did.
His silence was taken as a ‘yes’ so Ariana cheered. “Fuckyes. Matt owes me 100 bucks now.”
“A hundred bucks?” The lines on his forehead even deepened. “Youplaced a bet on us? For a hundred bucks?”
“Yep. Go big or go home.” Ariana sit on the counter againand Ashton wondered if she had a problem with sitting on a chair. “So, why areyou not dating anyone yet? I don’t think you moved on.”
“I have moved on. It’s just…” Ashton was cut off.
“Prove it.”
“What?”
She took a step closer, her gaze pierced on his eyes. “Proveto me you moved on. I don’t want to hear your bullshit excuse. Take me on a fancydate. I mean, we have a hundred dollars to spare.” She had that devilish grinon her face that usually appeared whenever she thought she had a genius ideaeven if it is stupid.
He didn’t know if she was being serious or not. Dating afriend was not a good idea. Taking Ariana on a date was even a worse idea sincethey always have a witty banter going on half the time. Yet he couldn’t seem todismiss the idea of going on a date with her. After all, she was beautiful. Theyknew each other well even if they usually have a fight.
“Okay. But save your hundred bucks and forget about thefancy date. I have something better.” Ashton smirked as if he was not sufferingfrom hangover.
