What Did it Cost?
Brace For Impact
The falling dream.
It was supposed to be a common dream, and yet somehow it was one you had never experienced. You could only assume how terrifying it must be- until you had it yourself.
The feeling of rushing air on your face sprung your eyes open to find open sky all around you. What had happened to the plane?
Your gaze turned below to what was below you. Part of a city? You closed your eyes to stop them from drying out from the wind and to think momentarily. Where were you?
The sound screams caused you to open your eyes again. They sounded real- too real for a stupid dream. You turned your head toward the sound to find the woman who had been sitting next to you screaming. Her eyes flickered to you as she reached out a hand.
You took it.
The moment your hands locked you could feel her nails digging painfully into your skin- the moment you could feel her clinging for dear life... In that moment you could feel yourself dip and fall more. In that moment you realized this was real.
More screams met your ears and you looked around to find other people- other passengers? Falling around you.
Each showed pure terror on their face as they screamed- and it was then you realized you were screaming too. Had you been doing that the whole time? Or had you just started?
“We’re gonna die! We’re gonna die! We’re gonna die!”
The woman clinging to you screeched in your ear, you wanted to say something. To tell her that it’s only a dream- that’s what you used to tell your friends, but this time it wasn’t a dream was it?
She was right... you were really going to die.
Panic rose in your chest as if it had been waiting for you to truly realize this before making itself known. Tears burned in your eyes and breathing seemed impossible and your chest only hurt with the effort. You focused your attention on below.
The below which grew nearer and nearer.
How long had you been falling?
You weren’t sure of the answer but it didn’t seem as what was below had grown any closer. Your eyes fixed themselves on the ground because there was nothing you could do.
You couldn’t stop the lack of oxygen in the air. You couldn’t stop the freezing of your skin from the cold. Fear wouldn’t even allow you close your eyes. There was nothing you could do.
Nothing besides, brace for impact.

The Avengers brought everyone who died into the present- to the place where they had been in the past.
But what if you had been on a plane? In a car? On a boat? In space?
You were back, but was that really what was best?
What Did It Cost?
