i think there is something so excruciating to him when he's sitting next to you and you're too busy to pay attention to him. and you try to tell him this is work and this is important and he should understand because his career is his entire life and yet he still can't stand it. he could afford you and your entire lifestyle. the least you should do is be giving him your time.
i think he just wants to win. i think the conquest is the best part. he doesn't necessarily want you but he wants the feeling of having you, of feeling you give in under his hand, of breaking you down and knowing you and replacing everything else in your life until he himself is irreplaceable to you.
i think he likes the slow descent, watching you fall, making you think it might lead to a catch but never does. instead it leads to a cage. to a collar. to a thing that eventually holds you in and holds you back. he doesn't want a thing to support and cherish and love, he wants a thing to break and stay and belong entirely to him. he wants to watch what you thought mattered to you stop mattering because he is the only thing that matters to you now.
he promised you he would never hold you back, that he would support you through everything, that he just wants to add to your life. that's what you were worried about, after all.
it's about time you figure out that people don't keep their promises.
