Happy National Coming Out Day! There is no one coming out experience: it can be terrifying, hilarious, traumatic, hopeful, heartwarming, shockingly abrupt, excruciatingly drawn out, a Greek tragedy, a comedy of manners, or a truly bizarre combination of all of the above. Here are a just a few coming out stories.
My experience with my family reminds me of the fluidity of all relationships. If we can only allow our relationships to go through their changes and get to the bottom of our own rage, sorrow, and shame, then we have the opportunity to become stronger, and more open to love.
—whatever...love is love by maria bello.
yes. YES.
“It is 2015 and Maria Bello, actress and writer, has Whatever … Love is Love (Questioning the Labels We Give Ourselves), a book inspired by her 2013 Modern Love column and entitled after her son’s reaction to her admitting to him that she is in romantic love with her female best friend, hitting the shelves and kindles near you today. And, of course, there is a book tour, moderated by Modern Love’s editor Daniel Jones underway (she is in NY @ 86th and Lexington’s Barnes & Noble this evening, and in DC on May 4th at Sixth and I).”
Traditional labels just don’t seem to fit anymore. These labels are limiting the possibility for people to question more and become who they are meant to be. By asking question and challenging our own beliefs. I feel we can update all our outdated labels and realize that labels need to evolve just like people do
