I write this post hesitantly because my father is an old school cat. He doesn’t like everyone in his business and taught me to keep my cards close to my chest. However, the other day, I did a FB quiz about angels and it popped up that my father was my guardian angel. And I could not deny that truth. He has unconventionally had my back as long as I have been developing my personhood in the world. As I have discovered and defined myself for myself and the world, he has continued to support [and occasionally guide] me through it all with his seemingly endless wisdom. Not all fathers are traditional. Not all of us get to create an equative relationship with the ones that created us. I can say this is possibly the most accurate social media quiz I have ever taken. And it made me face the fact that while he may not have been the father that tv shows are made of; He had been the father that show runners and superstars are made of. And being a force that had helped me learn how to create and sustain myself has been invaluable. I don’t know who or where I would be without him. I’m grateful for his support through my trials. I am grateful for him being alive through his own. I am hoping I make him proud more often then I frustrate him. I don’t know where I will end in life, but I’m grateful forever to have had him to guide my path as I learn my direction. Last year I thought we would both be saying goodbye, and yet here we both are. Alive. Healthy. [somewhat] cancer free. #fuckcancer🎀 I’m a survivor because of him. For everything he was and wasn’t for me. And everything he is and isn’t now. I shine because he showed me how to polish myself, and always shine. I love you daddy. You really are my guardian angel. Thank you. Thank you for choosing my mother. Thank you for having me. Thank you for naming me a force on this earth. Thank you for teaching me.
