From OPB's Think Out Loud: Don’t Shoot Portland began with protests against police brutality and racial profiling in the wake of theMichael Brown and Eric Garnercases. More recently, the activist group has staged protests at a Portland Public Schools (PPS) board meeting and town hall hosted by Senator Ron Wyden. Don’t Shoot Portland protesters blocked the vote of a proposal that would change Portland Public Schools (PPS)’s transfer and enrollment policies.
We’ll speak to Teressa Raiford, lead organizer for Don’t Shoot Portland, about her goals for the group and her experience with community activism.
