You know for Din, taking off his helmet in public is like us stripping off our pants and probably underwear as well in a world where that was the norm. Like, I’d feel pretty uncomfortable walking around bottomless even if everybody else was doing it. I’d feel exposed and vulnerable. It’s even worse for him because 1) it goes against his religion and 2) NOW someone knows his face. He can no longer feel secure in the fact that his face is anonymous. Even if Mayfield swore that he’d never tell and most or all of the other guys in the vicinity were shot, the fact remains. Plus he’s already uncomfortably aware that the armor he is wearing is complete trash. He is NOT protected, cannot pull weapons from anywhere and everywhere, cannot be shot direct to the heart and survive. All it takes is one shot and he’s down for good. The trooper armor also probably a lot lighter, making him feel unbalanced. In summary, this poor man feels like he’s bare-butt in a public place, broke his creed, lost his anonymity, is more or less unarmed, and is wearing armor that feels like (and is about as effective as) plastic. On the whole, not a good day.
