Hey Hey Hey!
Day 7 sans sugar and I feel amazing!! Do it, guys. Before, I felt addicted to food. Now, I eat when I'm hungry and that's that. Also, food (particularly veggies) taste so much more vibrant (if that even makes sense). I also ran today. My goal was 4 miles. I ran 5. At a 9:20 pace (which is like half a minute off of each mile from before the pleurisy hit). Suck on that, pleurisy. I'm back. :-).
Major Vent
So as you all know, or maybe not, I am a runner. Well, on Monday I was diagnosed with pleurisy. What is that? you ask. Good question. It's the inflammation of the lungs and the chest cavity. I was on anti-inflammatory meds all week. Thursday I felt pretty good, and yesterday I decided to stop the meds to see if I was feeling better on my own (and hence could start running again). Well. I was in for a really unfortunate surprise when my lungs started hurting every time I took a breath. So, yet again, I am on the meds. I wish I knew when I could run again... Or do anything physical for that matter. Do you know how much you use your lungs? For laying down, for standing up, for running, walking, biking, climbing, hiking, for lifting weights, for meditation, for planks, for playing with dogs. I think you get it. Appreciate that shit. Because I did not take enough time to appreciate my lungs before the pleurisy hit.
Btw. For anyone who is interested in what it feels like having pleurisy. My chest was in so much pain I thought I was having a heart attack. And every time I took a breath, the pain intensified tenfold. It sucked. And even with the meds it still does. The doctors thought I had a blood clot in my lungs. Turns out it's just a pair of (very) unhappy lungs. I miss physical activity. Even the simple things, like walking. And I really hope this goes away soon. Silver lining (because every cloud has one): This is Day 4 of being sugarless for me (Did you know mayo has sugar in it? Had to buy one without it today for my tempeh "chicken" salad recipe). I had withdrawal symptoms yesterday and Thursday, but today I'm doing pretty good. I just want to see where this takes me, my body, and my PCOS. I'm sick of sugar cravings and feeling low in energy. If it doesn't change me much, I'll eat sugar again. But I'm giving it a month or two of a good solid try before I give up.
