MELBOURNE MUSEUM, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA (October 17, 2018) How Daphne and I crammed all those museum visits during our short stay in Melbourne, I do not know. But we were certainly not leaving out the Melbourne Museum, which had won Best Tourist Attraction at the Australian Tourism Awards seven years prior. While there are many spaces to enjoy, my clear favorite was the Science and Life Gallery, particularly the Dinosaur Walk, Bugs Alive, and Amazing Animals in a Changing World exhibits. But fascinating too were the Mind and Body Gallery as well as the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre. I never seem to have enough time appreciating the curated spaces within a museum. Oh, well--a reason therefore to revisit.

BAR SCENES, MELBOURNE CBD, AUSTRALIA (October 19, 2018) I wish I knew the names of the bars we visited, but I was ready to chug some beer and devour some chow, and was in no mood to jot down notes. Daphne called on her old chum and we relied on her to drag us to some nearby haunts to celebrate our last night down under. I’d say the vibe is so different from what I’m used to in Manila. Or maybe we didn’t get to visit enough hangouts. But a couple that we did see carried a relatively casual and comfortable air with folks in their worn crew necks and flip flops or jean jackets or board shorts. Another bar had a more mature feel with its heavy drapes, leather settees, and grandpa 70s rock band. But truly, every place we visited was bursting with merriment from mates just eager to toast to a Friday night. So cheers!

SEA LIFE MELBOURNE AQUARIUM, AUSTRALIA (October 16, 2018) There is an inexplicable sense of wonder and joy I feel when I’m surrounded by animals. And so when Daphne suggested that we visit the famed aquarium in Melbourne, I couldn’t resist saying yes. Sure, it was a bit of a walk from the tram station, and I was sweaty when we approached the entrance. But hey, it was all worth it. Here are a few of my favorite critters posing for the camera. Incidentally, there was a thunderstorm when we got out, and we had to walk under the pouring rain. What an adventure!

NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (October 18, 2018) Thankfully, my niece Daphne has acquired the Agatep practice of cramping our itineraries to maximize travel time. So in the few days that we were in Melbourne, Australia, we were able to visit quite a few curious spots. Among our favorites, the National Gallery of Victoria. Founded in 1861, NGV is Australia's oldest, largest, and most visited art museum. And why not? Its collection showcases a vast array of art, so there’s something for every type of enthusiast. Don some comfy shoes and feel free to roam its many hallways, stopping at the pieces that catch your fancy.
