Unlimited Power (Couldn’t Help Myself)
So, here’s an AU for people. When Anakin starts his training as a Jedi, instead of lumping him in with the other younglings to learn, the Jedi stop and say “Hey, this training to meditate to access the Force probably might not be the best idea for someone with enough raw power that it’s giving us headaches whenever he’s in the immediate vicinity,” and instead start teaching him how to regulate his Force presence, while also taking advantage of the power he has. And when Anakin blows them away with how easily he learns, Obi-Wan’s response is “Let’s find anyone who can teach you something, since you’re too young to go on missions yet, and fill your sponge-like head with knowledge!” Which snowballs into Anakin getting a massively broad education, such as Force healing, lightsaber dueling, multiple moving meditations (the Force gives that boy way too much energy,) telekinesis, Force augmentation, and the academic arts (he’s behind on this for a while, because being a slave on Tatooine means that he’s a lot more versed in practical knowledge than academic learning).
And on the way, Anakin bonds more with the Jedi Order. Some of the younglings and Padawans are jealous at how easily he learns, but every teacher loves a student who devours knowledge and asks for seconds, so the Jedi are much more predisposed to think well of their super-prodigy. Of course, Obi-Wan worries about what he can teach his Padawan, then realizes that sass, the ability to talk one’s way out of situations, and general common sense are much harder to learn without a teacher.
Anakin becomes more confident, and far more skilled than he was in canon. Obi-Wan’s skill jumps, because he has to make sure his Padawan doesn’t just leave him in the dirt. And when he’s having dreams about his mother in danger, the Jedi don’t just dismiss it out of hand. Instead, they remember that this kid has more raw power than half the Jedi Order combined, and check up on her, because Anakin really doesn’t do well when he’s stressed. (Trouble dealing with stress is something Anakin always struggles with, and letting Anakin know it’s just something he’ll have to keep working on keeps him from being insecure about being high-strung)
I just think about what would happen if the Jedi embraced and encouraged Anakin’s power and ability, instead of being worried about his lack of control and emotional nature. Because a lot of the reason Palpatine’s able to groom him is because the Sith’s really the only one who gives Anakin a great volume of positive feedback for his progress. If Anakin got that feedback from someone else, he wouldn’t be so hungry for it. Also, if he’s busy learning everything, Anakin really wouldn’t have the time to hang out with the Chancellor as much.
(Padme is very impressed when they meet again, because Anakin has grown to love learning new things, and in addition to being head over heels for her passion and beauty, Anakin is also ready and willing to latch on to this new source of knowledge, which Padme actually finds pretty flattering.)
