Mairead was still gathering her wits when she heard someone addressing her. The young men from the post office where she worked seemed to have left her alone at last, but they certainly didn’t leave her in any state that could be considered alright- her dress was in a proper state and she was almost certain she would be sporting a few bruises later, though it were her nerves that were still riding high.
“I’m fine sir,” she managed to say, despite this being an obvious lie. In truth, she just hoped that he would spare her any indignity and go on his way. “Truly, I’m fine.”

She chuckled, dragging her charger from under the bar and plugging it in. “You gotta charge the battery first, before it works. Here, mine’s full, I’ll show ya.”
She held up her own, turning it towards him. “This is how you call peeps - you know, your friends, and all. And there’s whatsapp - I can install it for you if you want - that’s a way to send free messages.”

“My dress sense has always been impeccable. It’s William’s convincing me to wear something else that was the source of the unfortunate attire.” He clasped Magnus on the shoulder. “Though you’ve not changed at all. Insulting me from the first.”
Magnus laughed and rested his ringed hand over Jem’s squeezing his fingers gently. “It would be a terrible tragedy if I ever changed my magnificent self, wouldn’t it?”
For a moment, he looked Jem over and his expression softened. Jem still tugged on his heartstrings, just like Tessa did and just like Will would, if he were still here. The last nearly one and a half centuries had not changed that. You could not get that close to people and not love them, in a way. Magnus certainly could not.
“How is Tessa?”

Alec hid his laugh in his drink, but his eyes were sparkling as he watched Magnus flit from one group of people to the next. Conversation and entertainment came easy to the warlock and Alec actually admired him for it.
“It’s not me.”, he said and glanced over at Jem. “It’s all Magnus.”

Alec wasconfused , it sounded like a mundane way to deal with the uncomfortable feelingof the pressure on your shoulders. The only thing which really helped Alec washis own pain. “ I don’t know. It sounds strange.”

"Are you okay?" Jem was almost never really okay, Will knew that much from years of being so close. He still wanted to help though. Even if that just meant being there.
