Spotlight on Frank Loesser:
Frank Loesser was born June 29, 1910 and died July 28, 1969. During his life he was classified as an American songwriter. He has been called ‘one of the most versatile,’ and ‘one of the most talented.’ Some of his writing includes shows: Where’s Charley? (1948) in which he was composer/lyricist, Guys and Dolls (1950) in which he was composer/lyricist, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1961) in which he was composer/lyricist. He won Tonys for both Guys and Dolls and How to Succeed. Loesser is also known for his classical use of imitative counterpoint, which in music is a relationship that is shared between voices. In this relationship, the voices are interdependent harmonically, but are independent in rhythm and contour.
