Airplane mechanic Douglas "Wrong Way" Corrigan left Brooklyn, NY for Los Angeles, CA on this day in 1938, though his piloting led him far, far astray, as he landed in Dublin, Ireland 28 hours later. Though most believed that Corrigan faked his flight plan out of a desire to cross the Atlantic, he maintained that he truly was disoriented, a trait that would later serve him well during his career as a baggage handler.
