Send help. So, a couple weeks ago, I came up with a new romance novel idea. Title is What Happens Here Stays Here. It's a contemporary about a couple who meet in Vegas and wake up one morning married. My brain will NOT let this story go. And keeps adding to it. I know SO much about the FMC and her relationships with her mother and sister. I know less about the MMC, but it's not unusual for me to know more about one half of my couples than the other.

So, here's my problem. My brain kind if wants to put You're Still The One on the backburner and focus on this one, instead. Logically, it's genuinely because I think I actually have a slightly better handle on it. Plus, it would give me more time to do research for my historicals. But, I'm afraid this could just be my ADHD brain going "ooo shiny" rather than a genuine logical decision. Plus, I NEED to learn to focus and actually FINISH something.

So... let's put this to a vote.

Which story should I focus on writing?

No accountability check-in tonight because I literally accomplished NOTHING other than surviving a day at work.

But! While I didn't get anything tangible done, I DID do some thinking on writing projects. In particular, What Happens Here Stays Here. Because I realized that so far in my outline I have completely left out an important character from Maddie's character sheet. Her BFF Nancy.

Nancy was supposed to be Maddie's confidante. She is also supposed to be the FMC of book 3. She is nowhere to be found on this outline, right now. Now, I know that there is still a lot to do with this thing. And I have no idea what the rest of the steps in this process look like once I finish getting what I'm working on done. There may be plenty of opportunity for me to add her in in the early part.

But, in all honesty, part of me wonders if I'd be shoehorning her in. While I DO want Maddie to have someone she can talk to as things between her and Shane get more complicated, I'm wondering if maybe I already HAVE people who can fill that role.

I have Jessie, Beth, and Shane's sister. Maybe the story would actually be better served by having Jessie be her main confidante. It would make stepping back as a surrogate parent and rebuilding a relationship as SISTERS part of Maddie's are and character growth. And I kind of like that idea. PLUS, it sets Jessie up to be in a position to be the defender when their father shows up in book 2.

As for Nancy's other role as the FMC of book 3, that can EASILY be solved by either making her JESSIE'S friend, or by making her Shane's sister.

I need to read over Maddie's character sheet and see what I come up with for this. But, the gears are turning.
