I realize getting salty at Saban for fucking with canonical integrity has more irony than a planet-killing meteor, but the apparent Rita redesign confuses the fuck outta me. It’s not that fact she’s not specifically a Japanese woman? I don’t know or care if tumblr will be on about that, but toku shows casts Japanese actors because they’re around (and will gladly switch up a character’s background to make that easier, another story) and she’s supposed to be some space witch anyway.

I’m even fine with them looking back and maybe thinking it was too silly. I dunno when we got those kinds of standards in toku, but fine.

I’m almost not even mad if she turns out to be a half-ass movie version of a tv character for brevity’s sake, because that itself is a trope old as the 90s.

But I’m surprised they just didn’t go with calling it a new character, which they could also totally get away with
