#not even just the difference is determinism #I feel like being cynical is saying something like 'people are fundamentally bad'#which is just wrong #I don't think that #I think 'people could be 'better'' but #I don't think people could be better given the situation they're in #so I'm cynical of the situation #since the thing that prevents things from being better is the situation and not the people #I don't know what 'bad' would even mean #'be better' simply means 'act in less harmful ways'#so I'm simply saying 'people act in harmful ways given the situation they are in'#people are not sufficient for this (if they were that's just glorified eugenics lmao) and 'the situation' is always necessary #I'm not joking about being a determinist I'm dead serious about that if that wasn't clear already #not that I think everything is a write off and I'm giving up #like yeah lots of stuff could get better #but overall in general yeah I'm cynical in this sense
