What do you think is the best example of character development in any of the Sonic franchises?

Shadow.

Okay hear me out. Shadow (outside of the comics) is actually one of the few Sega Sonic cast to actually have a character arc. SA2 story isn’t a masterpiece by any means, but it hits all the keys for Shadow’s character development. I’m not about to write a thesis but I’ll say this; Innocent->Tragedy->Grudge->Evil->Transoms(not literally)->Redemption.

Hell, even “Shadow the Hedgehog the Game” goes deeper into his character development. Shadow starts out one way, and in the end becomes a better person without completely changing his “edgy” core.

What did you think about the other characters were used in Forces?

On one hand I’m glad they’ve been acknowledged and kept in character, with nobody getting flanderized (not counting Tails because that’s not what happened to him).

On the other I’m a bit disappointed that all of them minus Shadow, Silver and arguably Knuckles were mostly cheerleaders even though the setting was begging for them to take some action. I got sick of Vector saying “oh man how am I gonna top that?” pretty quickly :\ It doesn’t help that Forces has a horrible case of “tell don’t show”, and the supposedly cool things the others do while Sonic/the Avatar is saving the day are left to our imagination.

But between having only our quintet of Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Orbot and Cubot, and having multiple extras, I’ll take the extras any day. It’s a step in the right direction, and I hope they won’t disappear into the limbo of forgotten characters again.

What are your favorite episodes of Boom?

I’m not entirely sure.

The Robots from the Sky special was pretty interesting, until the fourth unnecessary part. It reminded me of older action cartoons in a way, as they’d sometimes have “travel to a new place” specials like that.

The Season 2 finale was interesting because of all the fight choreography. While written at the usual level of quality, It seemed like they brought in a guest storyboard or animation director for the episodes. The plot points did bother me though, as the whole thing was a bunch of excuses to have more fights, which were cool. Also Shadow reminded me of Old Knuckles, and has very confusing motivations.

I found Lightening Bowler Society to be one of the funniest episodes in my opinion. Based on what I remember, the whole plot tied together well and most of the jokes were funny. That and I liked the ending.

Final candidate would be Eggman’s Brother”, but mostly because Steve as a character is hilarious in concept. The fact that he’s a shape-shifting robot with a very low persuasion and performance skill just leaves room for many great jokes. Especially since once Team Sonic knows about him, he can’t seem to ever get anything past them for more than a few seconds. I also liked the climax were everyone is like “We just talked off screen and realized someone’s pretending to be us!”

I guess I’m leaning toward Eggman’s brother, of which I decided just now.

What do you think it would be like if Lyric was cured by the Crystal disease?

Hm...I like to think that that canon!Lyric would calm down and lay low for a while (since he’s done many bad things that the quintet would like to pay him back for). He still might not be able to safely remove his armour, though--given its nature, it’s probably rather invasive, and if he’s worn it long enough...

The Ancients aren’t off the hook, either, depending on how they handled Lyric being stricken with the Crystal disease to begin with. It’s just more “egh, to hell with ‘em” and not “I must destroy everything they ever touched to spite them”.

(I specify canon!Lyric because Horizon!Lyric needs that suit for a completely different reason; his characterization also ended up being vastly different from how canon!Lyric turned out)

What do you think of all the Boom games so far?

Rise of Lyric from what I’ve seen, wasn’t very good. Gameplay wise, there were glitches, the combat didn’t work for some, and sometimes the in game dialogue was weird and annoying. Story wise, I thought it had potential in some places but it just didn’t work out.

Shattered Crystal had slightly better gameplay, but I found the story to be worse than ROL. The characters were super dumb, the jokes fell flat and then we have Any and Sticks going hardcore for some reason.

Both stories had Shadow being a complete dick to Team Sonic for no reason, and while this is a spin-off and I would have been interested to see this Shadow as a villian if they only gave some story reason as to why he’s behaving this way. (Although the Japanese version of ROL had Shadow mind controlled).

I can’t say much about Fire and Ice gameplay wise. I can say the story isn’t bad, I found it to be a bit decent. It felt like one of those neutral Boom episodes but there were one or two things from that that did make me chuckle.

Then there’s Dash 2 Boom which I play often. While theres a graphical downgrade a bit, I do like some of it’s gameplay! The enerbeam can be fun, the characters have different abilities and boosts, you can switch to different players, some of the Sprites are useful.

Maybe for Boom!Shadouge you can have Rouge stumble upon Shadows cave and tries to loot from it and for Boom!Silvaze maybe a how-they-met story?

For that first one: even though I kind of like the idea, it doesn’t really fit into my fanon, so I’m not sure about it. (And what’s this about Shadow living in a cave? Is this fanon, or did I miss something? I’m just a little confused. ^^;)

As for the second: I'd like to do that story, but if I stick with my main timeline, it probably won’t be that interesting because they’ve known each other since they were babies. I mean, if you still want to see that, I could try and write it. Or I could do the alternate timeline version, where they first meet when they’re a little older (but still kids). If either of those sound good to you, then feel free to request it!

So after the werewolf story, will you do a Christmas story for Boom or another series?

I was actually planing to divert to a classic Spyro story based loosely around christmas. I’m also wanting to make it shorter.

There’s also ideas and loose outlines I have rolling around for OK KO, and a Steven Universe/Xcom crossover which I’m not sure I’ll ever do. Maybe a Secret Squirrel and Atom Ant show one-shot as well, but I have no planning done for that.

At this point, I’m not completely sure if I’ll write too many Sonic or Sonic Boom fanfictions other than one-shots. If a good idea for an original plot comes to me, I might write it.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if I add a one-shot epilogue or two to the Halloween werewolf story. I’m not sure when I would, but based on how I’m planning on finishing the story, there’s a few ideas for short followups.

I also could wind up needing a seventh chapter to my current fic if I reach 10,000 words here, but we’ll see.

Do you think the Ancients ever interacted with humans?

Canonically? No idea, though if humans were around that long, I’d think that they were at least aware of each other.

The Horizon ‘verse--no, since humans arrived on Mobius from Earth only a few years from when the story begins.
