A Shot in the Dark
Kaisla panted heavily as he ran through green and dark landscape, struggling to breathe. The only thing that kept him from simply collapsing on the ground from exhaustion was the iron grip his sister had on his wrist. Varpu was determined to get them both safe, and by now she was literally dragging him behind her towards the rift that would take them out of the Fade.
The Inquisitor didn’t dare to look back, knowing it would only slow them down, but he could hear the demons gaining on them. There was simply too many for them to fight alone, so getting back to the real word was their only hope, one that was quickly fading as his strength began to fail.
Varpu however was clearly not giving up and instead only run faster as they neared the rift. By some miracle they managed to reach it before the demons caught them, jumping through it quickly without even thinking where it might lead them. The only thing that mattered was to get out of the Fade.
As soon as Kaisla felt solid ground under him, he turned around and pointed his Mark towards the rift, sealing it quickly and effectively, before finally falling down on the ground, exhausted and gasping for air.
