1. What is your biggest insecurity- external and internal?

My biggest insecurity...oh my. External would probably be my weight. I know there are a lot of super body positive people out there,  but when I cosplay and they're ALL FREAKING TWIGS it makes it really hard to be confident in that. Internal would probably be that I have no metaphorical balls. I am scared human being.

2. What's your favorite thing about yourself-again, external and internal?

 External would be my face. I generally like my face. It's done me well. I think I'll keep it for a while. Internal would be that I'm pretty confident in myself as a whole. I've basically decided if I want to pull something off, I can.

3. If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?

The fall of the Berlin wall. I feel like it was such an emotional time and my generation missed it. Or when we finally get to Mars. Also an AMAZING prospect.

4. What do you miss most about being a kid?

I miss not being the jaded, cynical little shit I am today. Then again I think I was born this way.

5.  If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?

My parents. I have a pretty awesome relationship with them. I would want to see them before I die.

6. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Learn to crawl quick, after that it's smooth sailing 'till puberty.

7. What is your favorite time of the day?

Dawn. Everything is calm. Most people aren't up yet. I like it. 

8. Who was the hottest teacher you ever had?

Mrs. Unkenholz. She's sexy beast. Just ask her. Kidding. I don't get the wicked hot man candy teachers, damnit!

9. What would be your personal hell?

Sitting in an empty waiting room, nobody to talk to, nothing to look at, NOTHING without the privilege of going insane.

10. What makes you feel safe?

Under the covers with all the lights on with a dog or a person in the same room.

11. Is there something you have done in the past that you keep on regretting until today?

I have a constant fear that I haven't lived my life to the fullest, if that counts.

I talk to you, but still - I'm Arsh, my favourite colour is tardis blue (okay it's actually just blue in general, but I like saying tardis blue :P), my favourite ship is the Doctor/Rose, my favourite ice cream flavour is.. Rolo ice cream (does that count as a flavour?), and I do not have a cat ugh but okay if I had a cat I would name him/her Rory :D

My favorite color is blue too--I like all the earthy colors and tans and stuff. YAY DOCTOR/ROSE. Yes Rolo ice cream counts as a flavor! I've had it a few times--it's really good.

Think of your two favourite celebrities. One gets to have one day of happiness with you and goes off happily, the other gets one day of happiness with you and then has to have a shitty rest-of-life. Choose who gets what.

GEEZ ELLEN. Um. Hm. Let's see. I'm genuinely terrible at choosing to torture people. I would definitely want to have a happy day with Neil DeGrasse Tyson, because he's a BAMF and one of my heroes and he's hilarious. If he's booked, I'll take Alex Kingston or Tom Hiddleston, and we'll nerd about Shakespeare and performance art together over tea. Then I guess I'd have a happy day with Charles Dawkins and send him on his way because he's already such a crotchety old bastard. He's brilliant, don't get me wrong, and he's right most of the time imo, but god he's an ass. And he already seems to be so miserable. He should handle it well.

What is your favourite food? I like sour apples (like Granny Smith), and pumpkin pie, and zucchini, and carnitas burritos.

What is one tv show or movie that I haven’t watched that you think I should? Meep! I don't know what you haven't watched! But you're into art history and classical studies so maybe you might enjoy the movie Possession? It was a book first, and then it was a movie with Gwyneth Paltrow, one of my favorite bamfs. (Other Paltrow winners include Shakespeare in Love and Emma, both of which were awesome, but I dunno your movie tastes that well, so. :) )

What is your dream job? Field biologist I think. Spend half the year out in the field taking data, half the year indoors doing analysis. Fully funded, of course. That job is a joy if you've got the funding. I've done field internships before and they are just the best, even when they involve snorkeling for eight hours in rough coastal waters in December. Worth every frozen second.

You get a paid-for plane ticket to your destination of choice to stay for two weeks. Where do you go? Oooh. Let me loose in Europe. I've never been across the pond. Maybe set me down in London--I'll start there and go a-wandering for two weeks. I'm dying to go backpacking or something; it's on my bucket list. I would probably go visit all the cathedrals and art museums and be reduced to tears multiple times at how gorgeous it all is. I'll have to save up for all the Kleenex.

Three people on Tumblr you’d love to spend time with? Only three?? In protest of this unfairly small number I will instead provide four. Give me Courtney (BAMF!), Rodger (MY DARLING), John Green and Neil Gaiman (for I am shameless).

Favourite books that you’d recommend? Definitely Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Hands down. It's timey-wimey, it's got a great romance arc in it, it's smoking hot and it's classy and it's long and beautiful and heartbreaking and wonderful. I can talk about this book for hours so I'm just gonna stop right there.

You can choose for your favourite tv show to have everything you ever dreamed of happening come true, or to spend one day with your favourite celebrity. I will gladly skip the celebrity visit. I want my fucking timebabies.

One talent you wish you had. I wish I could draw well. I really can't. I'm good at a few specific things (illustrations of plants or animals mostly) but I entirely missed my grandmother's gift for art and watercolor otherwise. I'm incapable of drawing people. They legit look like the paintdoktahwho comics.

If you won $50,000 what’s the first thing you’d buy? I'd pay off my tuition. :P

drabble prompt: Christmas

[Dangit, I’m working on a Christmas fic for my SS right now and it’s almost done and adkghdlsh I wish I could share it here but then I’d kinda give away who I was and MY LIFE WOULD BE OVER.]

This actually ended up going on way longer than I thought it would, lol—so here's a cut.

“You’re planning something,” said Rose, and it was somewhere between a question and a statement.

“Me? Never. I would never do such a thing, Rose Tyler.” The Doctor peered purposefully at the console display, twisting knobs that didn’t normally need twisting and looking far more busy than he usually did. “Certainly nothing that would call for dressing warmly and meeting me back in the console room in half an hour. I’m hurt that you would think I could ever be up to something. Now you should absolutely not go get gloves, and you should definitely forget I ever said anything about boots.”

“Right, then.” She raised an eyebrow to him in challenge, feigning nonchalance. “I’ll be in the library, then. Since there’s nothing of that sort happening.”

That apparently wasn’t enough to break him. If she knew her Doctor, it took him a phenomenal amount of restraint to avoid gushing about their next planet—this must really be something.

But two could play at the Doctor’s game, so she turned around and started walking casually down the TARDIS corridor.

Three…two…one…

“And don’t forget a scarf!” he called out through gritted teeth. She grinned and set off for the wardrobe at a brisk walk that quickly broke into a run.

“Bloody woman,” she heard him grumble.

At first, she wasn’t entirely sure what all the fuss was about. The Doctor had been all smiles when she came back into the console room, but had—for once—been a man of few words. When he took her hand and led her out onto what looked to be little more than a barren muddy wasteland with a light dusting of snow, she began to wonder if this was a prank instead of a surprise.

“I was expecting snowball fights,” she admitted. “Bit cold for mud wrestling, don’t you think?”

“Oh, none of that.” She saw him grin, though, as he considered the possibility. “That’s an entirely different planet. Much warmer, that one. This, Rose Tyler—” he took her hand, “—is the planet Pyrusine in the year two billion and five. It is the planet’s first snow. The very first one.”

There was that gleam in his eye: the triumph of discovery. Freedom and joy and the kind of conquest where nobody dies. If she didn’t know better, she’d say he looked like an unhinged biologist who’d just discovered an ark of new species. He squeezed her hand hard, gesturing down to their footprints.

“Rose, those are the first signs of life this planet has ever had.”

“Wait, you said the year…what, two billion? But…that’s really early, right?”

“Oh, very early. Earth is no more than a cosmic sneeze right now, all dust and debris floating about. Won’t aggregate into a proper planet for ages yet.”

“And we’re here now. Won’t that change things?”

“Doubtful. Even if a sentient species grows up out of these mud puddles, these footprints are on soft ground, and the winter on this planet is so mild, I wouldn’t expect anything to get frozen permanently. Nobody would find out. But! But. There’s more.” His grin got wider. “See, in the present—in your time—our time, that is—this is a barren planet. In the fossil record there were a few false starts at one kind of life or another, but they always kicked the bucket after a few million years because of an oxygen imbalance. Nothing to replace the oxygen they needed to breathe, so they all went kaput.”

“Yeah, okay, so why’ve you got that look on your face like you’re about to do something really clever?”

He rocked back on his heels with a grin, hands in the pockets of his coat. “Because,” he said nonchalantly, “we can fix it. If you want.”

“What do you mean, fix it?”

Instead of dignifying that with a reply, the Doctor fished about in his pocket for a second. When he withdrew his hand, he held it to her palm up: in it lay many large seeds, some resembling brown, luminous bulbs, some long and thin, some like corn kernels.

“These are…well, they’re primitive trees. Cycads, palms, conifers, things like that. There’s plenty of carbon dioxide in the air for them. It comes up naturally out of these mud flats. They’ll thrive on it. And they’ll grow, and give this world oxygen, and then…well, that’s when the magic happens.”

“But that’s changing history!”

“No no no, see, the reason plants were so successful on Earth was because most of them had this little beastie living in the soil with their roots. Diazotrophs, they’re called. Helps them fix nitrogen, which feeds the plants, and fwoop! They shoot up like…well, like sprouting plants, I suppose. But like I said, there’s no life on this planet right now. The plants will grow slower. There’s nothing to help them. If any life does evolve, it’ll be on its own terms. It just won’t sputter out for lack of air. I wouldn’t expect too much, really, Rose. I’m in it mostly for the trees.”

She took a pair of the seeds in hand, considering them. They felt durable, oddly heavy despite their small size. A handful of seeds—how would they change the universe? It was a lot to take in, and she frowned at the objects in her hand.

“This seems like a very strange Christmas trip, Doctor. This is great, and everything, and I have to say I’m really interested despite all your gardener mumbo jumbo, but…why?”

“Ah? Oh! No, this isn’t the Christmas trip. No wonder you were confused!” He popped one of the larger seeds into the air, catching it between his fingers with a grin. “This is the trip before the Christmas trip. This, Rose, is setting the stage. My plan, if you choose to accept it, is to seed this planet—ha, literally!—and then come back in, oh, a couple billion years. You want a winter wonderland?” His voice grew hushed now, reverent with possibility. “How about a forest covering a whole planet—snow everywhere, and it’s all just between us two and a billion billion trees. Trees thousands of years old, with no one there to cut them down. Trees with root systems larger than cities. And all of that glorious life because of us.”

“Can you promise we won’t create a race of man-eating trees by doing this?”

His grin got wider. “Nope!” He popped the ‘p,’ just for effect. “So what do you say, m’lady? Care to do a bit of gardening?”

Rose bit her lip, considering. This could be very good—or very bad.

“You said Time Lords weren’t meant to change things. That they were only supposed to watch.”

“Well, yeah,” he conceded, running a hand through his hair. “But I’m a rubbish Time Lord! And it’s not like you need me to tell you that, either. You know it, Rose Tyler. So what do you think?”

She looked again at the seeds in her hand, and even now, the idea of billions of years was just so difficult to wrap her head around. There was so much that could go wrong—and so much that could go right. The Doctor had taken lives, in his own way. She knew he was still atoning for that, and wondered if this wasn’t his attempt to balance the scales a little.

Gently, her fist closed over the seeds, and she smiled up at his open, eager face.

“Where do I start?”

Pancakes :D

River woke to the smell of breakfast drifting in under the door. To this, her first conscious thought was a colorful rendition of the words "oh, no."

This was not good.

She took only enough time to wash her face and slip on the dressing gown tossed carelessly over the chair by the armoire. The fact that the Doctor hadn't even bothered to put it back on told her he was up to no good.

It would be so like him to set the kitchen on fire. Again. The last time he'd cooked, that entire wing of the TARDIS had smelled like the color black for weeks. She had a sneaking suspicion that he had consigned himself to microwaveable fish fingers and instant custard while she was gone. And going out to dinner all the time was lovely and romantic, but she had a feeling that those dates, too, had reasons that did not involve courting her so much as preserving her health and safety.

She grabbed a fire extinguisher on her way to the kitchen, just to be on the safe side.

When she got there, though, there was no grease fire, no catastrophe at all--not even a scorched pan. There was only the Doctor gingerly flipping pancakes on low heat, glancing frequently to a cookbook open on the counter next to him.

River put the fire extinguisher down. "Well this is a surprise."

He must not have heard her come in; he jumped a bit, flailed a little--that body of his never could seem to figure out where to put all those limbs, could it?--and his face broke into a wide smile. "And good morning to you too, Doctor Song! Hungry, I hope? Pancakes and eggs? Got some bacon in the fridge, but I thought the smell would wake you up, and I was going to bring it up to you so I didn't want to--"

"If you're cooking, I'm eating."

He was, in fact, wearing a "Kiss the Cook" apron--where had he got that, she wondered? Either way, she was happy to oblige. Particularly since he wasn't wearing anything else. Undercooked pancakes or not, there were worse ways to start the morning.
