The 2026 Grid in Winter Olympic Sports
Important disclaimer: I am from a country that has zero recorded instances of snowfall ever and know nothing about winter sports
Lando Norris - Pairs Skating
he wanted to do ice hockey but nobody believed the age on his birth certificate was real and refused to let him take part. he tried figure skating instead, but wanted to hang out with the girls so moved to pairs skating. he doesn't really like his partner and makes max fewtrell practice with him first
Oscar Piastri - Alpine Skiing
australia has mountains. oscar isn't from that part of australia, but it exists. he's not interested in tricks or flips, he just wants to go fast in a forward direction
George Russell - Cross Country Skiing
sure, it's not as glamourous as freestyle skiing, or as fast as alpine skiing, but cross country skiing has its moments. ten, twenty, or fifty kilometres worth of them. it can be a grind, but george doesn't mind the hard work. and his "traditional" technique is exemplary
Kimi Antonelli - Skeleton
everyone says he's going to be the new max verstappen, except max verstappen is still there, and kimi's not quite ready to throw himself down an ice track without being able to see where he's going. he'll get there one day. maybe
Max Verstappen - Luge
it's the fastest winter sport and it requires the same kind of ability to find the fastest line on a track as f1. there's also a doubles version of luge where one guy lies on top of the other and they hurtle round the track together and i think max would like that
Isack Hadjar - Bobsleigh
was he inspired by the cool runnings film? maybe a little, but bobsleigh is fast and fun, and people only see you in skin tight lycra for a few moments at the beginning
Charles Leclerc - Figure Skating
his music choices: classical. his costumes: sparkly. his jumps: great in practice. he never quite gets the gold medal and his fans swear it's because artistry isn't appreciated in the sport any more and the judges are biased against him
Lewis Hamilton - Freestyle Snowboarding
he does it all. big air, half pipe, slope style. nobody is better at throwing themself down a snow hill and then spinning really fast in complicated positions in mid air than him. he's the eileen gu of snowboarding
Alex Albon - Ice Dance
he has the long legs for it, and chemistry with everyone. his routines are fun, funky, and sometimes deeply weird. who knew that a routine inspired by the dragon boat aura farming kid could go so hard? alex albon did
Carlos Sainz - Speed Skating
a surprising amount of tactics involved here which suits carlos, but very unflattering skin suits which hide his luscious hair and reveal that he has a flat ass. oh well, you can't have everything
Liam Lawson - Snowboard
some men are just born to thrown themselves down a mountain on a thin piece of fibreglass
Fernando Alonso - Snowboard Cross
it's fast, it's competitive, there is a real opportunity for fernando to spray snow in the face of an opponent to knock them out the race. of all the disciplines this lends itself to scheming the most
Lance Stroll - Ice Hockey
he likes ice hockey but not as much as his father likes ice hockey. everyone wants to check him into the boards. daddy sponsors the canadian national team to get him a spot on their roster. he gets no ice time
Nico Hulkenberg - Snowboarding (Giant Parallel Slalom)
it's short and sweet, just what a 38 year old man needs
Gabriel Bortoleto - Ski Mountaineering
a sport that asks the question: what if we didn't have to transport the competitors anywhere and they just did it themselves?
Ollie Bearman - Biathlon
he has an accent that suggests he's been invited to go shooting before and long legs that make the cross country part marginally less exhausting. switches from a bear logo to a polar bear logo for sporting purposes
Esteban Ocon - Curling
for a sport that involves slowly pushing a stone and sweeping the ice with a broom it is surprisingly engaging. as is the team drama for the french men's curling team, with esteban and pierre permanently locked in a psychological warfare. their teammates refuse to share a room with either one of them at competitions, which only makes them worse
Pierre Gasly - Curling
he didn't start anything! or so he claims. nobody else on the team really cares they just want him and esteban to shut the fuck up. they both have the idea of switching from men's curling to mixed doubles, which starts another battle for that position. neither of them gets it
Franco Colapinto - Ski Jumping
objectively the most insane sport, so of course it goes with the man crazy enough to call flavio tio flavio. and yes, if flavio tells him to inject his penis with drugs so he can wear a bigger suit and reduce drag he'll do it. tio knows best
Valtteri Bottas - Nordic Combined
not only do you have to be insane to do ski jumping, you have to be a bit of a glutton for punishment to add a 10 kilometre ski to it. the perfect sport for a man used to receiving radio messages from james vowles. and he loves showing off his ass in the suit
Sergio Perez - Luge
once served as max verstappen's partner in the two man luge. had to get his wife pregnant immediately afterwards to prove a point to himself
What's the bed/mattress situation at the GPDA strike sleepover?
George: wants to share with Alex but feels he needs to stay alone as a Director or go with the rookies. Has his personal pillow of course.
Alex: will take George's hand and tug him towards his mattress.
Lewis: special orthotic mattress, doesn't share.
Lando - Oscar - Carlos: Lando is cold. Puts three mattresses together, grabs Oscar and Carlos, and puts himself in the middle.
Pierre and Esteban: go on opposite sides of the room but can't help but look at each other (when the other is not looking)
Franco: goes from one mattress to the other.
Yuki: shares with Pierre.
Zhou and Val: share because they are good teammates.
Nico and Kevin: don't share but put their mattresses next to each other.
Charles and Max: surreptitiously get their mattress closer and closer to each other. Will wake up cuddling in between the two mattresses
Checo: alone on his mattress. snores
Fernando: alone on his mattress, snores louder.
Ollie and Kimi: try to understand why they are here but are happy to share.
Jack: in the middle of the room, in both Pierre and Esteban's lines of sight.
Liam: keep Jack company. Complains that Checo and Fernando are snoring.
Edit : sorry, I forgot Lance!
Lance : full bed provided by Dad with silk sheets. Would have invited Fernando over but he snores!
Wanted to fill this template for a while then realized that I already draw all of the drivers (at least before mid-season changes, sorry franco and liam) on my photocard project I did while ago, so might aswell just use it lmao.
Original template by crudeoildistillation here
so heather bamberg, the jeweller who designed all the bolo ties the drivers got this weekend has been posting close ups and explanations on instagram and theyre SO cool (under the cut cos there's 10 of them):
