With their sweet and salty maple-caramelized onions, these turkey burgers are a real treat. There are just the right amounts of spices on the juicy turkey patties, and onions cooked in maple syrup add a touch of sweetness. They are a healthier take on a classic favorite because they come on whole wheat buns with fresh lettuce and tomato.
Ingredients: 1 lb ground turkey. 1/2 cup breadcrumbs. 1/4 cup finely chopped onion. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese. 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley. 1 egg. Salt and pepper to taste. 2 tablespoons olive oil. 2 large onions, thinly sliced. 2 tablespoons maple syrup. 4 whole wheat burger buns. Lettuce leaves and tomato slices for garnish.
Instructions: Mix ground turkey, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, egg, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Make sure to mix the ingredients well until they are all well mixed. Cut the turkey mixture into four equal parts and shape each one into a burger patty. Set a pan on medium heat and add the olive oil. Add the sliced onions and stir them around a few times during the 10 minutes it takes for them to get soft and start to caramelize. Pour maple syrup over the onions that have started to caramelize. Cook for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are sweet and caramelized to perfection. Take it off the heat. Set up a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat while the onions are caramelizing. They should be cooked all the way through and have nice grill marks after about 4 to 5 minutes on each side. Put the whole wheat burger buns on the grill and toast them for one minute, or until they get a little brown. Put a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun before putting the burgers together. Putting a turkey burger patty, some maple-caramelized onions, and a tomato slice on top helps it look better. On top, put the top half of the bun. If necessary, use a toothpick to hold the burger in place. Serve your tasty turkey burgers with maple-caramelized onions right away and enjoy!
