This is one of my all-time favourite picture books! Of course, it doesn't hurt that "Whopper Cake" (2007) was written by one of my very favourite humans, Karma Wilson. But I swear, I didn't meet this wonderful lady until several years after my nieces, preschool classes and I had already been laughing hysterically over this fabulous book! 📚📙📗 In fact, I think one of the things I love most about Karma is that she's the sort of person who would think up a story like this: the tail of a grandpa so adoring of his wife that he'd bake her a cake so big it has to be mixed in a truck bed. Will Hillenbrand's gorgeously colourful, exaggerated illustrations are just the icing on top of this hilariously hyperbolic story. The sing-song rhyme cadences and wonderful vocabulary make it an absolute joy to read out loud. Get yourself a copy of "Whopper Cake", complete with cake recipe.
