Okay...I wasn't going to add to the whole Tennant vs. Smith thing but really...I can't stand the crap I just read and need to put my opinion out there now.
I just don't understand why people keep saying Matt didn't "deserve" to carry the torch. Like...who are you people to say what somebody deserves? Even if you don't like his acting, or God forbid he isn't David Tennant, how can you say he doesn't deserve it?
You can say "I don't like that Matt was the one who carried the torch." "I wish somebody else had carried the torch." "I wish David had carried the torch. It would have been awesome." But how can you just outright say "Matt didn't fucking deserve to carry the torch!" Just...how? Out of all the words you can use, why use "deserve"? It just sounds wrong to me :/
I'm also not liking the whole "It was supposed to be David" thing either. "Supposed to be" also just sounds wrong. Just 'cause it happened in the show, doesn't mean it was ALWAYS going to happen in real life. We were never absolutely, positively, 100% promised David would do it. It's not like David said yes, we were told David said yes and then all of a sudden they threw Matt in instead. There's no "supposed to have been" about this. Really, there's not.
I for one think it's an honor he rightfully earned, even if it was a bit last minute. And god...how can you guys be so harsh on him when you actually watch the videos and see the pictures? The guy is so painfully cheerful and so obviously excited and thrilled and honored. How can you just strip that away and say he didn't deserve it? Guys...he's an actual person, and an amazingly good hearted one too, and if he saw half of this crap it would actually hurt him. I don't understand how you can bash on an actor from a show you claim to love so much. Even if he's not your doctor or your favorite actor or you could care less about his episodes...it's still disgusting to bash him like that.
Also, can we remember some things for a moment?
David is in Poland.
David is busy.
There is still time for David to take a spot if he can.
'Cause it's canon that he ran the torch in London, which is the last stop. (If you really care about canon THAT much.)
Some of you are raging so hard and saying things like "can you imagine David's face?" but you seem to forget how sweet of a guy he is. If he was able to watch it or if he heard about it, I would bet you anything what he said was "Good on you, Matt." Is it possible he felt a bit jealous? Maybe. But I'll bet even more, he'd be MORE disgusted by the things some of you are saying than by Matt Smith actually carrying the Olympic torch in Cardiff.
That's just my opinion on this. I was going to just stay out of it and chill with the very calm Eccleston fans, despite being a Tennant girl myself, but after the handful of nasty messages I saw today I just couldn't ignore it any more. This will be the ONLY thing I write on this topic. Okay? Cool. Thanks for reading!
