What's your most controversial whump opinion?
I don't know how controversial it is, but I'm personally not a fan of fics that just use generic "whumper", "whumpee", etc, especially when the characters seem like a blank slate. Obviously there are always exceptions, and this format is great for prompts, but I tend to turn away from longer fics that use it 😶
I'm more lenient for "hero" or "team leader" etc. I think in my head the word "whumpee" is automatically associated with the "innocent broken cinnamon roll" character type, which isn't my preference at all in whump.
What’s an OC or story that never made it past the planning phase?
Poor Myn and Solan 😭. I've had this 'dethroned royal villain whumpee' fic plotted out for over a year now, but I've never made it past the first chapter. Aspects that make me super excited and keep me holding onto it:
-its a Middle Eastern-inspired fantasy setting that looks really cool in my imagination
-the whump in the story is the twelve city-states that make up the country each choosing a karmic punishment for the former king
-it's called "Thirteen Moons" which is objectively one of the coolest titles I've ever come up with
The main drawback is I haven't come up with a compelling arc for Myn, the protagonist/caretaker. Whump is the main plot ofc, but I need something else to hold it together
