Welp, that was... unsettling...
A memory...
“Wow…I didn’t expect camping resort here can be so luxurious,” Nate remarked. “Nice wood cottage with bedrooms, TV including barbecue set…so much.” He slowly slides to Sebastian’s side and whispered softly, “Thank god we had enough cash for it.”
Sebastian shifted his eyes towards Nate’s direction and whispered back, “Don’t blame me. Steve made a bet with me and I won. Too bad for him. His gambling money is mine now. Besides its summer and most of my colleagues went for long vacation. Ignis always told me he wanted to go camping to get away from the brash city life so why not?”
Nate chuckled, “All thanks to your psychic. Still try not to use so much.”
“He deserves it,” Sebastian crossed his arms. “I don’t feel any remorse. Better to put the cash to good use rather than on something useless right?”
“Very true though I still feel really bad for him…”
“Seems everything in the kitchen functions well,” Ignis closed the oven lid. “Can’t wait till nightfall. I had some nice dishes to cook for you all.”
“Geez you really have a passion for cooking, do you?” Trevor was watching him from the doorway.
“Yeah. It keeps my mind off things. Don’t you love hunting too, Trevor?”
“I do. Same reason as you,” He knelt beside Ignis. “So what you plan to rustle up for tonight?”
“Hmm…creamy chicken noodle soup, bacon cheddar egg casserole, fruit flan with some nice mint chocolate milkshakes.”
“Wow that’s a lot. Guess as usual you need an assistance.”
“Thanks Trevor,” Ignis beamed.
“So how you boys feel about this place?” Sebastian asked.
“Cosy,” Trevor gave a thumbs up.
“And peaceful,” Ignis replied. “Thanks Seb.”
“It’s a good change of pace,” the detective gave the boy a warm smile. “At least my mind is clear.”
“No noises?”
Sebastian placed his hand on his temple. “No… STEM is silent today so I’ll be fine.”
“Well if it starts to reverberate again, do take your medication to suppress it,” Ignis reminded him. “I left the syringes in a green duffle bag next to your bed, Sebastian.”
“Thank you.”
“Why won’t you boys go outside to play?” Nate came in. “It’s a nice weather today and there’s a theme park not far from here.”
“What about you both?” Trevor points at them.
“We plan to watch some home movies,” Nate took out a few Blu-ray discs before turning to Ignis. “We will get the ingredients prepare before you return. Go have some great time.”
Sebastian nodded at the boy. “Go on.”
Trevor nudged Ignis on the shoulder. “Let’s go.”
“We’ll be back at five.”
“Wow what a crowd,” Trevor gazed in awe at the theme park flooding with vacationers, tourists and families with children. He looked at Ignis. “You might want to stick close to me. It will be hard to find each other if we got split.”
“OK,” Ignis nodded.
“So what should we play first?”
Ignis pointed at the Ferris wheel. “That.”
“Eh...that’s unexciting…,” Trevor commented. “We should go for the thrill ones first.”
“I prefer to go slow to get myself physically and mentally prepare for the fast ones if you know what I meant.”
Trevor reconsidered for a moment and agreed. “Alright we do it your way then.”
“I’ll never get used to roller coaster,” Ignis whined as he felt both his legs shaking with fear after riding on that scary coaster. “I need a break seriously before you asks for a second.”
“Oh come on,” Trevor poked him on the forehead. “You were so gallant inside STEM yet a sissy on rides like this.”
“Hey these two things are a big differences you know,” Ignis tried to reason back. “I fought hard for survival inside that twisted brain machine while roller coasters only for entertainment.”
“Still both are man-made.”
“Yeah it’s true. Overall roller coasters are still petrifying for my opinion.”
Trevor laughs and playfully ruffled Ignis’s hair. “Alright, alright. Let’s change topic; how about grabbing some light snacks?
Somehow something at the corner caught Trevor’s attention, he let out a smirk. “Hey Iggy why won’t you go over there and wait for me?” He points at a stall selling roasted corns.
Ignis raised an eyebrow. “Where are you going?”
Trevor hushed him. “Just do as I said. Buy some corns and wait for me there. I won’t be long.” He ran off leaving a puzzled Ignis behind.
Still Ignis did what he was told to; brought some butter roasted corns for himself as well as others and waited at the corner, munching on the corn.
(Wonder what mischief he’s up to again?) Ignis gazed up and saw some youngsters around his age with families having fun. As he watched them in silence, he began to reminisce his memories he had with his uncle; the very last time his uncle brought him to place like this was when he’s seventeen. The joyfulness they had together before his only family was coldly murdered and Ignis got abducted.
Ignis quickly turned his gaze away from that sight and rubbed his eyes. How he missed his uncle so much. Suddenly he was snapped of his thoughts by a familiar voice.
“Iggy?”
He whirled around to see Trevor staring at him. “You alright? Are you tired?”
“Ah no, no, Ignis shook his head. “I’m just thinking about err….oh,” He showed Trevor the butter roasted corn, “Thinking about how to improvise the taste of this delicacy.”
“I see. By the way can you close your eyes?” Trevor requested.
“What for?”
“You will know in a second.”
Ignis frowned. “I aren’t falling for your prank, Trevor.”
Trevor raised his hand, “It’s not a prank I swear. If I lie, may Sebastian send me back to STEM.”
Ignis let out a sigh. “Oh fine, I trust you this time.” He closed his eyes.
“No peeking.”
A soft and fluffy object was then squashed against the side of Ignis’s face causing him to squirm. “You can open your eyes now.”
Ignis did. The moment he did so, he gasped in surprise to see a medium sized cute Tonberry plush right in front of him. Trevor grinned and gave it to him.
“Here. I got it just for you.”
“For me?” Ignis blinked. “Is that the reason why you asked me to wait? To give me a surprise?”
Trevor nodded. “I know you adore this toy series a lot plus I just happened to saw a stall giving it away as prize. So I participated and won it.”
Ignis cuddled the plush then gave Trevor a hug. “Thanks bro. It means a lot to me.”
Trevor stroked him on the head in return, “You’re welcome, little bro.”
“The tonberry plush still looks new,” Sebastian took it down from the shelf and sat next to Ignis on the bed. “I recalled Trevor got it for you at the theme park a year ago.”
“Yeah he did.” Ignis leaned against Seb’s shoulder and took the plush before cuddling it tightly.
Sebastian wrapped his hands around the boy and whispered softly, “I know Iggy. You don’t have to say it.”
“I miss him,” Ignis began to sob in his arms. “I miss him so much.”
