Avengers #4 January 30, 2013
I just watched Why We’re Here, and my heart is completely broken about the Monty section. Hearing Michael talk about how they basically told they were going to have to say goodbye to Monty and that he was going die before he died was awful. Barbara crying. The worst was Miles blaming himself for being in an argument with Monty when he died. How they just only started RWBY and how much he wishes he was there. And then him using his memories of their old stupid disagreements and how Monty used to make up with him to move forward.
Why We're Here. Tomorrow. 12 PM CT Don't be late.
What are We Here For?
You’ve seen the flyer, you may already be following and watching for updates and developments. But what the heck are we *doing*?
.
It starts with just a tiny bit of vanity. See, I went from taking zero medication to taking... well... a few different things. Some of them fairly large pills. Now that I’ve been able to do more and more without my crutches- that means I’m open again to carry cute purses and bags! Which also means... I really want a cute pill organizer. Something portable but pretty- that would hold and organize all my meds for easy carrying in my purse.
.
But good luck. If you find one that’s cute- there aren’t enough images too show if *your* pills will actually FIT. Or it looks right, but the reviews are awful. After 3 days of googling and hunting and reading reviews and banging my head against the desk I messaged my friend Kris and said, “If I had the capital, I’d make a store JUST to carry and sell ‘pretty’ medical gear and supplies.” So I could go to one place and find all the things I need without having to weed through 12 different sites and then settling for the same old gray and black and ugly.”
.
Her response, “Who needs capital? We could do it online!”
.
And PrettySick Supply Co. was born. We committed to working together to bring my idea to life. We’re starting by trying to just create a hub. A place you can go when you need new medical gear but you want it to be personalized or pretty. We’ll collect links and photos, stay up with what’s available. You just come to the site, click on “pill sorters” and see what we’ve found. Then, you just click on the link(s) for the ones you like, and buy from there.
.
We’ll also be putting up videos on our youtube channel, real video reviews of the products we find and buy and showcase on our site so you can see in more than just.. 2 images... if *your* meds will fit in a given case, or how easy or difficult some of these diy tutorials are for modifying and creating your own things like pockets and organizers for walkers and wheelchairs.
.
Someday, our goal is to be able to offer these products to you directly. We’re looking into forming an LLC in the future, and becoming resellers/retailers for things like MYID medic-alert bracelets, and switch stick canes, etc.etc. But even then- our parallel priority is to support makers within our community.
.
And that’s what we’re working on right now. Collecting all of you crafters and artisans who are already creating amazing products that personalize, prettify or otherwise spruce up the gear and equipment we need just to exist. We know there are people out there making stim toys, weighted blankets, port and ostomy covers, creating decals for mobility gear and so much more!
.
More than that, we also want to feature your art, your jewelry. I have a line of beaded awareness necklaces in my shop. i know of at least 2 other artists creating disability themed jewelry and art. There will be a place on our site for you as well. Basically if it’s medical, illness or disability related and it’s breaking the black, gray, ugly mold- we want to know about it. And we want to share it.
.
We’re going to be combing through tumblr and etsy and storenvy to try and find some of these creators on our own- but it’s even better and simpler if you point us in the right direction! Don’t be shy- we WANT to showcase what you’re offering. You deserve a bigger marketplace, and we want to help connect creators with customers.
.
Our hope right now is to launch PrettySickSupply.com on July 1st! We’ll have a few videos up by then, at least 1 review, and with your help- Lots of creators and crafters and amazing gear to feature and connect you to.
.
We can’t wait to get everyone connected, and we’re really excited to have you with us on this journey! Stay Tuned!
Watching Why We’re Here
And trying my hardest not to cry because they are talking about Monty. :’(
Why I'm Here: my RT backstory or whatever
Very long post alert! Shout outs are at the bottom. The post is all about my journey with RT and how it helped bring me where I am. Read if you're curious, if not, no problem! Have a wonderful day <3
I finally got to watch Why We're Here (the RT Doc). I can't believe I've been a part of this community for so long now! I'm feeling sappy and nostalgic so here's my RT story.
My very first experience with Rooster Teeth was when I was in fifth grade. My brother had his friends over and he watched Red vs. Blue with them. I heard some pretty hilarious jokes while I was playing Pokémon in the other room. I got up to join them and realized that it was just a bit too... Edgy for me. I was a very sheltered kid and I kinda got scared by explicit language. So I didn't pick it up right away. But a few jokes stuck with me. "Ever wonder why we're here?", "IT'S LIGHTISH RED!", headlight fluid, "Boo motherf***er" (yeah I still put asterisks fight me), and a few more.
My sophomore year of high school, a kid in my theater class wore a pink shirt that said "IT'S LIGHTISH RED!" and suddenly I remembered Red vs. Blue. Come to find out the first five seasons were on Netflix! So I binged that immediately. When I finished season 5 I thought that was all there was (still confused about that "boo mfer" line), went to school, and complained about wanting more to my new friend in drama class. He looked at me with surprise and excitement and told me not only were there more seasons, they were still making it! So I got on YouTube and binged all of that.
My senior year of high school, my friend group had grown immensely. I dragged a few of them into rvb and achievement Hunter, and in turn, one of them told me I should look into rwby. That's when I really crawled into the RT Edgar hole.
They showed me the fight against the Death Stalker. Then the food fight. And that was all I needed. I binged both seasons that very same night. I only regret that I didn't choose to watch RWBY sooner. Because I got into it just one month after Monty Oum passed away. And I never knew about him until after he was gone. Despite this, his words inspired me. I related to his characters, especially Yang. I cried in season 2 when she talked about how she wants a life where she doesn't "know what tomorrow will bring, and that'll be a good thing." Because that was exactly the sentiment I had but could never articulate.
And the MUSIC!!! It's no secret that I love RWBY's soundtrack. There's so much to decipher in every phrase, there's so much more depth to the story and the characters. My default for nearly every occasion is the RWBY soundtrack. Casey-Lee Williams is my hero tbh.
RWBY was my first real step into cosplay. I had done Halloween costumes before of Luna Lovegood and Mockingbird (from Marvel), but the first time I made a costume for anything outside of what was "normal" was for RWBY. I started with casual cosplay my senior year because it helped me decide what to wear (I'm real bad at picking out outfits omg). A color-coded wardrobe designed to be like a character I loved? That's ideal. I was Blake for Halloween the year after I graduated, then the next spring my friend took me to a convention in my city, and that was the only outfit I could really wear that would be recognizable, that I WANTED to wear (this convention was also the same day that volume 3 PvP came out, for timeline). I didn't know anything at the convention, it was a smaller one in a hotel. But people actually.. recognized my thrown-together outfit. They actually COMPLIMENTED it! I knew I couldn't let that go. I made more cosplays: Yang, then Pyrrha, then Weiss.
While this was all happening, I was working part-time at the funniest, most baffling and horrible-yet-enjoyable job I'll probably ever have. And that's where I met DoubleHug and Zandreas, two of my best friends (I'm using their online names bc privacy is important). Z was a quiet guy at first, and way taller than me, so I was a little intimidated. He also worked way harder than me so I probably had a bit of an inferiority complex. But sometimes I would see him just, smirk to himself. Which I always did when I thought of funny rvb lines and such. So one day I asked him "Whatcha thinking about?" And I got to know him a bit, and he was polite and asked me about myself, and I talked about rooster teeth, and before I could even mention how much I loved rvb he started monologuing the entire first episode. So, instant friendship after that. DoubleHug started streaming Dragon Age, which Z LOVES, so while we both watched, we got a lot closer. We had a great dynamic online. I talked with him on discord sometimes and eventually he started streaming some Cool Games so I'd watch his streams and comment and we'd spend quite a few hours on discord afterwards, with him asking what I thought of the game, and then those conversations became a lot more personal. Throughout all of this we still only texted each other about work stuff.
Eventually, we found new jobs. Z and I started sending each other memes. This turned into my first relationship. We just passed our 8 month anniversary. We watch a ton of RT content together, and we're even going to RTX this summer (as Winter and Qrow).
I'm excited to see what new things will come out of this Keep Moving Forward attitude I've adopted. I've been thinking about doing some pretty creative things with my cosplays and I really hope I eventually get to share them.
I'm incredibly amazed about how far RT has come and how they've brought their community together. Being a part of the RT family is such a wonderful experience. It's boosted my confidence, my passion, and my creativity. It's given me tons of people who inspire or encourage me, not just in the company, but also online. I'mma shout out a few of you because you really mean a lot to me and I care about you sincerely. @noneeyewithleftyork , @jesslessthanthree , @actualagentcarolina , @roosterteethaesthetic , @actuallybees , and @learn-and-accept , and @yanginthere , you have all been there on my dash every day, making me laugh or inspiring me with your content or your hard work in your personal lives. Thank you for sharing part of yourself with the community. Keep being you <3
