Happy 36th birthday to Miles Luna, writer and showrunner for Rooster Teeth shows like Red vs Blue, Camp Camp and RWBY and voice actor of Jaune Arc and Felix. I will never forgive the internet for trying to convince me to hate him. Man I feel bad for him, I genuinely hope he's doing better now.
Certain RWBY fans have a habit of chasing ghosts.
Proverbially speaking. Specifically, I refer to the string of posts I have often seen regarding Sheena, Monty’s wife, and Shane by proxy. So often going on about “what could’ve been” with loose concepts that Monty tossed out about Raven in V3 or Ren‘s backstory or… pirates.
And it’s like… how does this apply to now?
We’re well past when those story beats could be implemented unless they use the pirate idea for Vacuo in a Mad Max sort of way. Maaaaybe a flashback could do it as a kind of twist but that’s just the operative word: “maybe.”
These all sound like first draft ideas, throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. Which is what drafts are for but often times what seems cool in your head will turn out vastly different when put to paper in applying it to a narrative.
Lest we forget how Monty would animate a lot of fights before we see how the final draft implements them. Miles and Kerry often had to write around it like Power Rangers adapting Super Sentai footage.
Yes, Monty likely spitballed ideas with his wife and other friends but trusted Miles and Kerry to implement the ideas as they saw fit. Monty might be a writer but knew that where his weaknesses laid, believing in the collaboration of art like in the CRWBY.
We can mournfully say, “If only, if only…” all we want but the past is past. And even if one brings up how RT screwed over Sheena, well, it’s not like we can do anything about a company that’s effectively dead and only still restarting.
Y’all.
The fact that Miles. Unprompted. Brought up that rg cameo from the other day. And talked about how much he wished they would have used it and how much he loved that idea.
And Kerry was so careful about it saying like if it’s not in the show it’s not necessarily canon confirmed. But was going along with it, but Miles was just so excited about it that he just ranted about it.
Miles Luna I will love you forever thank you for your service I’m going to go cry now.
(Had to cut out part cause ads but coeocoekndowlq)
Okay. Results.
RWBY is masterpiece for me. It may have some issues or flaws, but for me it's just brilliant. A lot of media that I consumed wasn't so emotional for me, didn't become so important for me. I don't know why, but this show is... just right for me. A lot of media that was praised as "flawless" wasn't so interesting, so fresh, so passionate as this show which is claimed "bad". I came here for one ship, and stayed for... for ALL! Soundtrack, characters, plot... It's a shame that in my country only source where you can know about this awesome show is TV tropes!
Maybe I'm too young and my obsession with this show will pass, but now it's a very important part of me. Thanks everyone who made this. Rest in peace, Monty.
