"People ask me why I'm an 'aggressive' atheist. Well think of the word atheist. Who comes up in your mind? Richard Dawkins? Christopher Hitchens? George Carlin? What do they all have in common? They don't sit on their asses and accept religion and human ignorance, they are out there fighting it, rightfully making religious people look stupid. That's why I'm agressive, I refuse to sit back and watch religion reek any more havoc and ruin more lives. Secondly, it's because I'm pissed. Really really pissed. The dark ages caused by christianity and islam have halted scientific and human progression for centuries, how can you not be fucking pissed? Imagine what just 1000 years of science could have done. Curing cancer. Curing genetic illness. Flying cars. So what will you be? A freedom fighter for science and humanity or a powerless, cowardly spectator." -Hex (at Atheist Memes, Facebook)
I honestly believe religion causes more harm than good. My biggest bone with it though is teaching people to be good in order to avoid a sticky fate rather than to be good for the benefits of being good.
Eh...it bites me that religion's seen as a default to teach kids and is still sanctioned in schools and by society while atheism is seen as a dangerous alternative leaning, slightly sub-normal.
There are good religious people and there are good atheists, but at least atheists don't have an organised book of their faith written 2000+ years ago that actively discriminates against certain groups and encourages its followers that its perfectly okay to do the same. Blame my upbringing for my views, haha.
