“Coming into college, I had a strict mindset of just focusing on my studies and was hoping to create friendship at the same time. I didn't know what to expect and I was uncomfortable to put myself out there during my freshmen year. I secluded myself from student life and everyone around me. I was having a hard time finding myself. I didn't think that I would fit in anywhere.
The summer of going into my sophomore year, I told myself that I would change. I'm going to drift away from my freshmen year and have it as a learning lesson. I wasn't going to be able to network with people if I was uncomfortable with getting out of my comfort zone.
During the Involvement fair, I was lucky enough to have stumble upon a group of Asian girls and from there, I knew this was my place to be, a place that I would someday call home. I attended all the events I possibly could to exit out of the secluded zone that I have been in. I can honestly say the two weeks of recruitment have been one of the best moments of my life. It has brought me out to be my true self, and most importantly, meeting and finding a commonality of interests with other people.
These women are the reasons why I strive to be a dedicated female leader everyday. Their endless support and everlasting sisterhood is definitely something I cannot get from anywhere else. I am forever grateful for where I currently stand, and it's all thanks to Delta Phi lambda. ” - Anyssa Volarath, Fall 2015
