Wistttt I need outfit ideas for Fern! I can’t decide if he’s more of a cottagecore/garden style or if he’s closer to classic papyrus in what he wears or like some secret third option lol

I've been picturing him in apocalypse-core grunge because of the darker nature of the au. idk like- layers, and duller colors, to make the plants growing out him look even more vibrant and perhaps that much more.. off.

like he's a lovable teddy bear of a skele but in my head he don't look out of place as a drifter in a wasteland yknow what im sayin. and even tho I know he's on the surface I keep thinking of him in stuff like this:

cottagecore wouldn't be out of place on him either, but I think that would be a surface-style of his once he's out and comfy. cable knit sweaters and loose jeans and pastel-patch covered overalls would be good too

Favorite moment: when you paired me up with mal and then i went "oh no he actually is really cute" after this streak of not liking him

Idea for a story: I've written a couple! One is nsfw so I can't share here lol but he's part of the Polyship AU and is really close friends with Blue. Mal, Rus, and Blue all share an apartment for a while in one of the routes.

Unpopular opinion: I think he would love making fashion and have his own retail store (totally not also from the PSAU)

Favorite relationship: I... these are all Also from the PSAU... but I love his bro-friendship with Blue as well as his on-and-off relationship with Garnet (Zircon in Swapfell) (yes my human sonas in the psau are all named after stones i thought it would be fun) (no i have not watched steven universe--)

Favorite headcanon: Would not hurt a fly (in post-pacifist on the Surface) because he doesn't want to hurt anyone after the whole "kill or be killed" mentality... but also would slap a bitch for disrespecting his friends/brother.

In response to the tags you left, I def agree that Mal wouldn’t tell Papyrus how much he really did for him, but i also think Rus would still kind of know. Like, how many times did young Mal come home with flecks of dust on his clothes before he learned how to clean it all properly—how old was Rus before he really understood what that dust meant.

The angst of both of them having so much trauma centered around each other but still wanting to protect each other however possible is so fun to writeeee

Yes!!!! And the knock on effect that would have on Rus is so fun to consider, both in terms of him seeing the physical evidence of that violence but also in the way he’d be impacted indirectly??? As a child he goes from getting picked on by the other kids, maybe having a handful of friends, to everyone being terrified of Sans and therefore too terrified to interact with his baby brother. Yes, the bullying would stop, but then there’d be this intense social isolation in its place. Also consider him knowing the friends or family members of monsters Sans has dusted and seeing the impact Sans’ protection of him is having on other people. And the impact Sans’ protection of him is having on Sans, too — seeing him come home exhausted and injured, with fresh EXP, and trying very hard to hide it. What a mindfuck!!!

And I really like the irony of Sans working so hard to keep rus safe and happy, very very often at the expense of his own happiness and safety, and that being the very thing that ultimately isolates rus from his community and causes him a whole bunch of unhappiness later down the track. Their trauma is so fun!

Idk if you’re doing this type of ask, but how would your mycotale monsters react to Spore (or Fern) as fungi/plant infected monsters who don’t want/need to be cured? I assume there would be a lot of distrust even tho it’s a different affliction than the fungus in that au

general reactions I can do! unfortunately I haven't fleshed out specific characters yet though heh

the majority of them would be torn. on one hand they were severely paranoid for years because going near someone with the wrong strain of mushroom could mean instant death- so wildly mistrustful from that front.

but if it's explained to them that it's harmless and treatment is unneeded, they would be wary but okay with it. after all, 90% of the population still has mushrooms growing out of them (though the illness is gone, scars remain.) plus most of them are still trying to figure out how much of their attitudes and emotions are their own and how much of them were just the parasite's doing.

The sheer fact of Morel having mushrooms on him would immediately make Spore hyperfixate on him. Spore’s got his own interests, and then he’s got the mushroom’s interests, which overtake his own. Spore would usually only fixate on another monster his magic sees as a potential host to spread to (which is very rare, since the infection is so adapted to his magic. Classic Sans and HT Sans are at risk, for example.) but his magic sees Morel already covered in mushrooms and thinks “same! friend!”.

And oooo i love a skele slow burn! I wish I could keep up with ratsoh’s lore but there’s always so much happening 😭

every mycotale monster has mushrooms growing on them, that's just how their underground was, but yeah, after morel ascertains that this new monster is not a bringer of plague there to destroy them all he will tolerate and eventually accept any attempts at friendship.

my boi is lonely and is mean as a defense mechanism because he realized that getting close to people meant you would just lose them; by year 1 of infection his entire graduating class from college was all dead and gone, and those wounds are still healing. but yeah! spore can be a friend! he'll just have to endure some snarkiness and paranoid poking n prodding first lol

also, he can empathize with the mushrooms invading thoughts; The Rot came with differing side effects for everyone back in his underground, and for him it came in the form of auditory hallucinations and chronic fatigue

I was trying to think of a way to describe the dynamic i pictured with Morel and Spore and it just hit me that it’s like blacn cat and orange cat. Spore ofc being the orange cat in this situation

lmao listen morel hates people dont respect his boundaries and he tends to scare people off at first because he's pretty mean up front but if you stick around long enough he's a great friend to have

if spore pesters him enough morel cant help it; he'll get pretty fond of him. in between the insults lmao

actually rn morel is having the slowest of slow burns with G, (ratsoh's gastertale sans) and they met because G annoyed him at a bar, morel punched him, knocked him out, took him to the ER, and paid for his taxi in that order. been insulting him and buying him drinks ever since lol
