Located near Horseshoe Bay, this is a relatively easy 6K, 2-hour hike from start to finish. It doesn’t have any major panoramic vistas, but it does lead to a picturesque little lake with a dock that you can swim in if you were to bring your bathing suits. I can’t attest to the quality of the water, but there were kids swimming there when we went up. The hike takes you through old-growth forest and despite its proximity to West Vancouver and the highway, most of the hike seems a million miles away from civilization.
We did the hike with our two kids (young teens) and they found it pretty easy. It’s somewhat busy, but not as bad as other area hikes. On a weekend we encountered people here and there, walking their dogs and enjoying themselves, but it wasn’t wall to wall. It is still a dirt trail, with a few sections that have been made accessible with a wooden bridge and guard rails, but it hasn’t been turned into stairs or one continual boardwalk like Quarry Rock in Deep Cove or the Grouse Grind. It is a pretty decent uphill ascent at the beginning for about half an hour, with lots of roots and rocks, so anybody with limited mobility should be aware of that. At the end of the loop there is an outhouse, which is nice, and if you want you can continue on to the TransCanada Trail and look out over Horseshoe Bay. We would do it again. Here’s a link with directions.
