Tell me a story of a older Imperial Officer who ends up taking care of twins?
Once upon a time there was a man who was a Cape.
He did not enjoy being a Cape, but that was what his Lord demanded and so he obeyed. He also did something very unexpected: he remained alive. Commendable and a persistent nightmare to be certain. How does a man survive within a twisting labrynth of nightmares, wretched experiments, and constant vigilance?
When one night he finds one of his hiding spots is not occupied by a trap or horrifying message that there is no escaping the gaze of an eye that never blinks,
But two small, bright eyed, pale haired children who understand that The Cape has the best hiding spots in the Estate.
What comes next should be less of a surprise, for while this Officer was a young man when he was ‘claimed’ he was a dutiful Imperial, a talented soldier, inexplicably lucky, but most of all:
And a Good Man in that situation would stay. And help. And tend to the children who eventually name him Uncle. To soothe them after nightmares. To make the considerations their progenitors could not. And to give them something that had been sorely lacking: humanity.
