//As someone in a similar position to yours and has been for many years, I can say with absolute certainty, that roleplaying a character that exists outside of the general consensus for its established universe can be extremely difficult. Similar can be said about the characters who go against this definition of course (i.e. for the “real characters”), but when it comes to a muse of original design the struggle can be so much worse. Every day you have to prove to, not just others, but also YOURSELF, that the character you made is just as important, unique, and substantial as any other character that was made by a respected author, director, writer, or company.
This particular feat is made all the MORE difficult for muses like yours and mine because they technically DO exist within the aforementioned consensus, but are inherently designed to have different, but also equally viable, interpretations to them depending on who’s observing them and how they’re observing the world around them in turn. Meaning that they’re actually both canon and not canon at the same time, existing as a sort of memetic version of Schrodinger’s Cat. This leads to everyone having different opinions on who/what these characters should be ultimately, and thus causes them to view everyone else’s opinions on that character with some indifference or disdain in the worst cases.
But even with all that being said, you chose to create Megan all the same. And while that act alone is something that deserves even just a modicum of admiration for the kind of resolve it took, what deserves more admiration, what deserves true respect, is the amount of time, energry, and overall dedication it required to build her up to what she is today.
As you know, I’ve only just recently started following this myself. but what you might NOT know, is that I’ve been seeing it popping up on my dash for quite a while now. About… a year or so I believe? Maybe just above six months, I can’t exactly recall. At any rate, I’ve been seeing Megan around here and there for a large period of time. I couldn’t tell you through which blogs owing to the greater number of them that there have been, but I do know that when I finally elected to click on your username at the appearance of a new thread on my dashboard I was practically floored.
I’m honestly not sure how to adequately express to you how impressed I was with what I saw without going into finer detail, but it was so plain, even from a glance, that you put so much effort into every aspect of your blog. You had your own art, your own icons, your own edits, your pages were so detailed and tidy that I just could not even believe it! For Pete’s sake, you even had a SECOND blog about Megan that apparently expanded upon the reincarnation aspects of the Fire Emblem Avatars! I mean, I had a Robin blog and Corrin blog at one point, but I didn’t even think to take them to the kind of levels you did!
(By the way, the Megan cinematic universe is when now?)
It was just all so…overwhelming. And obviously, I’m not the only one who thinks so. There are so many other people who appreciate your work, so many respected roleplayers who are practically lining up at the corners for the chance to start a thread with you. In fact, I don’t think it would be too much of an exaggeration to say that some people prefer Megan over Corrin. And if that ALONE isn’t the mark of an excellent roleplayer then I honestly don’t know what else is. Never mind all the other positive traits I’ve already listed.
As I’m writing all of this out to you now, I would like to stress that I didn’t originally intend for it to turn out to be this big or mooshy. I just saw that little heart meme pop up on the dash, and what was essentially meant to be a short reply telling you how cool I think you and your muse are, evolved into a small essay detailing the technical points of roleplaying and how you exemplify some of the best things about them. Because, honestly, I think it HAD to.
You and Megan BOTH are inspiring. A pair of role-models for roleplaying as a whole, and a stellar example for what self-created muses are capable of when they’re expressed passionately by the ones who made them. Something that I feel even more strongly to be true, now that I’ve had the chance to reflect upon it by making this. I really look forward to seeing how you continue to grow and hope that if nothing else, that I can at least reach the levels you’re currently at myself.
(I don’t know what to say...but thank you. I honestly didn’t expect to receive such a message, but I am grateful nonetheless. I’ve had this blog since 2016, but I revived it in 2017. I love Corrin, and I love my own avatar too, and I’m happy to be able to share her to the world of roleplaying. Even though I’ve had ups and downs throughout my experience in this fandom, I’m happy to say that I’ve found a family in this dash. I feel blessed to have met such a lot of great people and made fond memories. I hope to make more within 2019 and for the years to come.)
