hello!! i want to cosplay muichirou tokitou from kimetsu no yaiba, but i'm having trouble with his hair. he has mostly black hair but it's a light blue/teal at the bottom, and it doesn't seem possible to dye a black synthetic wig to a lighter color. would i have to start with a white/blonde wig and dye the whole thing from scratch, or is it possible to do it another way? thank you in advance!
Hello there!
I can see two ways of going about this.
One would be to get a black wig and add the blue wefts to the underside, making sure to trim the black hair in a way that allows the blue hair to show in a gradient like the reference. This would be the easiest way to do it if you don’t want to deal with dyes and would create a very clean-looking effect, but wouldn’t be 100% accurate because of the layering required.
The other would be to dye the wig by hand. You would start with a blue wig and then either dip dye it to get the black on the top or you would hand color it with alcohol ink or alcohol-based markers. Dip dye would be a more stable way of dyeing the wig and could potentially produce a darker/truer black, but would potentially be difficult to control, and you may run into issues with the amount of heat and time that dyeing wigs with polyester-safe fabric dye requires. Hand coloring the wig has the possibility of the dye rubbing off or staining, especially if you use any sort of styling products on the wig after, but would allow you to have more control over where the color goes.
If you do the dye method, be sure to get a wig that can handle whatever dye method you choose, as some fibers don’t accept some types of dye, and you don’t want to accidentally frizz your wig by sticking it in dye that is hotter than the fibers can take.
I hope that helps! Good luck :]

Todoroki Shoto Wig Tutorial
1. You’ll need one white wig of your choice that is heat resistant. I used a Ferrari in Silver from Arda Wigs. You’ll also need a synthetic dye, such as iDye Poly or Rit Dye More, in a red or crimson color as well as a large pot you don’t mind possibly staining.
2. I suggest you do test dyes to determine how long you need to dye your wig. If you don’t want to buy extra fibers, cut off some fibers from an area where it isn’t noticeable.
3. Find the center/middle of the wig and cut it. This is scary but just go slow
4. Prepare your dye bath following the directions of your dye.
5. Once you dye bath is ready, dunk your test fibers for different amounts of time. This will help you pick how long you’ll dye the wig.
6. Time to dunk one of the halves into the dye bath! Once it’s done dyeing, wash the half with cool water and soap to remove any excess dye.
7. Once the wig half is dry, sew the two halves together.
8. You have a whole wig again! Now all you need to do is style your wig.
Hope you guys like this tutorial!
I made another cosplay tutorial, this one is about wig dyeing, hope it's helpful

Nagito Komaeda (Danganronpa 2) wig commission Base wig used: Jareth in Silver from @ardawigs , dyed with Rit Dyemore dyes in Chocolate brown mixed with Apricot orange. Surprisingly, I didn't have to do a tons of trimming on this wig since the base wig has layers that are pretty good length for the style. Did a ton of teasing and hair shaping with a flat iron though. I used the same technique to get "wavy spikes" like in my wig tutorial for Dio (Jojo) wig. Wig commissions are open! Hello! Just a quick post about lace front wigs.
I did a dye experiment on a lace front I had been planning on covering the hairline of anyways. If you intend on using a hot water dye on a lace front it will dye the lace as well, making it less natural looking! I would go for instead of dyeing it in a bath to use an airbrush method while using craft water soluble glue on the hairline (letting it dry of course) and then using that method of changing the color!
That said, if you’re only going a bit darker (say a light blonde, a light ginger, any pastel colors) you can likely get away with it.
I tried using a method someone recommended on a forum, using Vaseline on the lace in the front, but that pretty much melted off with how hot the water needs to be for idye poly.
Let me know how you all have dyed your wigs before, and how you feel about lace fronts!
I’m working on Mikleo from Tales of Zestiria!
